Problems in closed water, chilled water and condenser water systems often only come to light when a component in the system stops working – by which time the damage could be even worse than it appears.

By ensuring that water systems are treated and protected at pre-commissioning stage, many of the more common hazards can be avoided or reduced.

What are the issues?

Water quality problems in pipework systems lead to costly drain downs, system re-cleans and disruption; and poor water quality can indicate an underlying problem such as corrosion or microbially influenced corrosion.

Water pipes can contain any number of foreign bodies (sand, grit, plastic, building waste) which could be carried into pumps, valves, boilers or chillers causing fatal damage. Corrosion is always a problem in steel pipes. Given the right growth conditions, microbial contamination will increase and produce biofilms which contribute to both filter and pipe blockages, and microbially-influenced corrosion.

How can we help?

Parsloe Simpson WT Consultants is a partnership of two of the most respected names in the UK water treatment industry. Chris Parsloe and Dr Pamela Simpson between them offer 40 years’ experience dealing with issues relating to water quality in closed circuit systems, from pre-commissioning stage through to maintenance and operational effectiveness.

We offer independent, professional advice to building contractors and commissioners at the right time – before the expensive errors are made. We can provide:

• Independent assessment of building water quality during pre-commission cleaning to ensure BSRIA compliance at practical completion.

• Auditing of on-site water treatment procedures during pre-commission cleaning to prevent problems from microbiological and chemical contamination.

• Preparation/review of pre-commission cleaning method statements.

• Water chemistry and microbiology monitoring during system alterations with a comprehensive report containing recommendations required to be BSRIA compliant.

• Independent monitoring of water quality in fully operational systems to resolve and ensure ongoing compliance

• Investigations into pipe/system water quality related failures by our experienced team of experts.

• Independent surveys of water quality and pipework condition for clients purchasing new buildings.

• Comprehensive training packages covering all aspects of water management and compliance with BSRIA guidelines.
