REDEEMER VIEWS JUNE 2020
Note: We will begin sending a second newsletter each month until we are able to return back to some sense of a regular schedule of activities.
The intent is to provide an additional print ministry element to our ongoing online ministries.
Who was the best example of a father in the Bible?
Soon it’ll be Father’s Day (June 21) and so I thought of the question above as worth exploring. But, I had a hard time coming up with one. I can’t think of one that was perfect. • Noah cursed his son Ham in regards to his own drunkenness. • Jacob so favored Joseph that he created animosity among the brothers. • Eli’s sons were awful and much of the blame rested with Eli’s lack of disciplining them. • Samuel’s sons were no better than Eli’s because of the same poor parenting. I could add to the list as more than a few had parenting issues that resulted in very dys-functional and unhappy family situations. Some fathers were selfish and cruel. Paul had to write to early Christian fathers not to exasperate their children. Many (as today) would have benefited greatly from some basic parenting classes on how to be a good dad. So what does this teach us, if even “bible dads” failed? It teaches us that none of us are perfect at fatherhood. There is no perfect superman dad. We all make mistakes and by the grace of God go I, as we might often say. But a good dad can learn, and then set to practice to make better himself so that his children and grandchildren will be better for it. If I were to say which was the best dad of the bible, I’d have to say Joseph, and as we all know he was a “step-father” to Jesus. What do we learn about Joseph? We learn that he was called a righteous man and that he cared or his family. He protected them from harm and later worked as a carpenter in Nazareth in order to provide. Beyond that, we assume being a “righteous man” that he loved the Lord and that this was evident in his demeanor. So the best father award goes to …… (drumroll)……. Joseph, husband to Mary. What makes for a good dad? He is loving, caring, protecting, teaching, encouraging, up-lifting, disciplining, forgiving, worshipping, helping, leading, following, supporting, laughing, weeping, praying, thinking, giving, receiving, doing… and after all that…. napping! When we live in Christ we can rest in him too! Happy Father’s Day. ~ Pastor (and father)

“Beautiful Sight!” A Poem: Have you looked out your window So that you can see The spring time beauty God created for you and for me. A few late blooms Still adorn the green trees They sway oh so gently In the soft morning breeze. The trees in their glory Of fresh green and white Against the blue sky-- What a BEAUTIFUL SIGHT! The birds have returned From their winter down South They are building a nest For they and their spouse. They'll build their nest wisely Away from all harm To raise their babes safely From wind and from storm. Blessings as we enjoy God's wonderful creation, Marilyn Schauland

A NOTE FROM THE PARISH NURSE
The Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act
In Minnesota a new law is in effect as of Jan. 1 of 2017 to help families understand their rights to help and support family caregivers when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay. The law will allow every hospital patient to designate a family caregiver, whose contact information will be recorded in the patient’s chart. The hospital must make reasonable efforts to
notify the caregiver in a timely way about transfers and discharge, and to train the caregiver on how to perform follow-up medical
tasks needed at home. There is no better way to learn a caregiving task that to see it demonstrated live. Hopefully this assistance will reduce costly hospital readmissions and to give
the caregivers the confidence they need to care for their loved one. For more information go to aarp.org/mn.

REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH WEBSITE ~ redeemernewulm.net
Check out our church website do-over! As of May the Redeemer website (redeemernewulm.net) is now being updated and edited in-house by Lisa Cole (Dir. Youth/Ed.). Doing this in-house
provides us now a much quicker way of posting pertinent information and material. We also want to thank Gary Urban, a member of Good Shepherd, N. Mankato, for his many years of voluntarily posting our church newsletters for us. Currently our Video Worship Services during this time of
suspended services are also being posted on the website as well as on the Facebook Page.
Redeemer’s Sunday School gatherings ended sooner than we wanted. However, in our time together, God’s Word was shared and explored, praises were sung, and Jesus love was shared. Since we’re not allowed to publicly gather, I’d like to recognize our Sunday School students here:
Grades K-1 Perfect Attendance: Adleigh H., Lillian H., Martin M. Commendable: Sarai W. Participation: Karson R. Grades 2-3 Perfect Attendance: Anna G., Seth G., Jocelyn H., Commendable: Kody K., Jaxon R., Levi S., Carson S., Participation: Aiden R., Haillie S., Kolton S. Grades 4-6 Perfect Attendance: Jaxon H., Adam M., Anna M., Lucas T., Micah T. Thank you to our volunteer Sunday School, Confirmation, Girls’ Bible Study, and substitute teachers this past school year. Redeemer’s youth and families have been blessed by your gift of sharing your time and faith. Melissa Haala, Kristi Kapolczynski, Paula Kral, Gwen Mielke, Betty Haus, Mary Kay Mages, Mindy Berkner, Cindy Wiederhoeft and Tammy Gramstad.
Congratulations to our 2020 graduate Jessica Kral. Jessica, daughter of Paula Kral and Mike Kral, graduated from New Ulm Public High School on May 29th. She plans to pursue a nursing
degree at Winona this fall. Jessica also looks forward to continuing her interest in soccer and dance through its intramural programs.
My favorite memories from Sunday school were the camp omega week and learning so many new games while worshipping Christ! Even after growing out of the camp,
coming back and volunteering with the younger kids was so much fun!
As for looking into my favorite high school memories, I would give anything to step back on the soccer field or the gym floor at a dance competition one more time.
I met some of my closest friends playing soccer and have a million memories from spending time on and off the field with them.
KINDER HAUS HAPPENINGS April/May 2020
(Jesus promises) “I am with you always” Matthew 28:20
Jesus is alive! We have been celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus made breakfast for His disciples and ate with them. We eat with Jesus everyday as we ask Him to be our guest as we pray. We also know He is with us through out our day and with everyone every where. We talk about this often. Jesus is alive and with us. He gives us new life. Now 40 days after Easter, we let a rainbow heart balloon go up to our ceiling as we talked about Jesus ascending to heaven. The heart reminds us Jesus loves us. The rainbow reminds us of Jesus’ promise to be with us always. The balloon going up is a visual representation of Jesus going up into heaven. The balloon on the ceiling reminds us we have a job to do now (the great commission) - go and tell everyone about Jesus and His love. The balloon will come down just as Jesus will come back again someday (to take us to live with Him). We are waiting for that time but have work to do as we wait. The ministry at Kinder Haus is to share Jesus’ love with the children and their families. The children are sharing Jesus’ love with you and all who go to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Facebook page. We pray this has been uplifting and a blessing.
Spring brings new life. We have been learning about baby animals, their names, what they say, and how mommy carries baby. We have learned about many animals that hatch: chicks, turtles, ducks, birds, snakes, crocodiles, and platypus. We read stories and sang songs about farms and animals on a farm. We talked about and moved like puppies, ducklings, joeys, cubs, and ponies. We played the bunny hop game. We learned shapes unless we picked a bunny and then we sang while hopping like a bunny.
We have learned about seeds growing. We “planted” seeds in a bag with a paper towel as our dirt. We added water to some of the bags and put them in the sun. Some we put in the dark. Other bags we did not water. We watched and talked about what happened with the seed. We sang a song that helped us learn what plants need to grow: water, sunshine, and dirt. Our bean seeds grew in bags with water, sunshine and “dirt”. They also grew in water, dirt and dark but the growth was not green. The seeds with no water did not sprout within the bag. This science experiment and observation was very fun and we learned a lot. We planted all of the seeds in our planter outside and will continue to watch and take care of our plants. We also look forward to eating the beans! We learned about the parts of a plant: roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Roots go down in the dirt. We talked about and saw the difference between cut flowers and plants. Cut flowers have no roots because they are cut or picked above the ground. We planted flowers in our planter also. (We are going to try to remember not to pick them.) We will all help to take care of them by watering them so they will grow. Thank God for spring.
Thank you for your support: prayer, monetary, masks, shower items, etc.
God bless you and keep you where ever you are. Remember He is with you always.
In His hands, Jeanne Holten, Director
