Who is Fu Hao? Grade 4 N.Curran Fu Hao Was a consort of King Wu
Ding of the Shang Dynasty and served as a military general and high
priestess. She was also considered a warrior Legend says Fu Hao was
a first commander of the Shang Dynasty and controlled around 13,000
troops. Chinas first known dynasty dates back from 1766-1050

Vessel. The Shang are known for their animal sacrifices for
religious purposes. Shang Dynasty Bronze Ritual Vessel Writing
system Its is said that the Shang were responsible for the origin
of the Chinese writing system we know today. The writing system was
originally pictographic, that is, words were represented by
pictures that fairly closely resembled the meaning of the word. The
picture for "sun," for instance, looked much like the sun. This
pictographic writing eventually developed into the more complex
ideographic writing that we are more familiar with. Chinese writing
is one of the only contemporary writing systems that still
prominently bears traces of its pictographic origins. Picture - The
material they commonly used to write on were oracle bones or animal
bones, mainly skulls.
Burial Pit at the Tomb of Fu Hao
TheTomb of Lady Fu Hao is an archaeological site at the ruins of
the ancientShang Dynastycapital ofYin. It was discovered in 1976.
One of the best-preserved Shang royal tombs it was excavated by the
Anyang Working Team of the Archaeological Institute of the Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences,extensively restored, and open to the

More than 700 jade wares were unearthed, most of which are intact
or only slightly broken. They are in a large diversity, including
not only ritual wares such as rectangular jades, holed jades, and
semi-circular jades etc, but also articles for guards of honor,
like daggers, battle-axes, and spears. Also there are tools and
ornaments. The latter represent the largest number, exceeding 420
in total. Weapons Found in Royal Tombs
Theses are some of the weapons found in the royal tombs of the
Shang dynasty including Fu Haos. Also found in Fu Haos tomb was 16
human skulls. T These 16 people were know as human sacrifice when
an important person died. This was a common tradition in the Shang
Dynasty.
