The Chairman’s CornerBy Stan Walczyk

I had the honor of hosting Greylock’s virtual annual Membership meeting on March 22nd. I hope you had a chance to join us. If not, there is a link to the recording on our website.

This year we had an uncontested election for four openings on the Board and all nominees were elected.

Remember When...Dick BelairTo those of us in the twilight years of our lives, there are things of our youth we just can’t forget. The most vivid of these are those after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. I was only eight years old but I recall the impact it had on my own family and those around us.

My sister’s husband was drafted into the Army, as were many of the fathers of my classmates. My dad was a WW1 veteran and beyond draft age. My other sister joined the Navy. My mother did her part by going to work at the GE. I prayed a lot.

On the home front, there were many shortages of items diverted to support our troops. Food and fuel were rationed and many “Victory” gardens were planted to supplement the food supply. I recall the practice black-outs and air raid drills to prepare for possible air raids. There were scrap metal drives, blood drives and numerous other activities to support the war effort.

In September of 1945 our prayers were answered and the war ended, as did this unforgettable chapter in the lives of those who Remember When.

We are fortunate to have a group of strong community leaders serving on the Board and Supervisory Committee with backgrounds in education, healthcare, management, IT, human resources, finance, accounting, community development and much more. It is this level of diversity that ensures the integrity of our Credit Union as we continue to move forward.

The annual and impact reports were also presented at the meeting. I invite you to view both of them on our website.

Thank you for being a Member of Greylock Federal Credit Union.
