The SME File Fabric for Enterprise solution provides a very easy and straightforward way to provide a unified federated search capability for end users.
SME integrates with many existing private data applications and public cloud solutions.
Private data application examples are Jive, CMIS, SharePoint, FTP and CIFS. Public cloud solution examples are Amazon S3, RackSpace Cloud Files, Google Storage, Azure Blog Storage, Salesforce etc.

COMPLIANCE CONTROL
In addition to Search the SME solution offers a control point for all corporate data wherever it is stored. As a control points Storage Made Easy can be configured to audit all file events, which can be exported as an excel file or as Syslog events for use with Business DashBoards. The SME system also enables encrypting of sensitive files that reside on public cloud Apps, or the choice of keeping these files entirely private behind the firewall but still accessible. GEO location tracking and restrictions are also built into the platform as is secure file sharing across all data stores enabling a common file sharing policy to be set. The system can also be set to track consumer cloud access such as DropBox, often referred to as the ‘DropBox problem’.

CONTENT SEARCH FROM ANY DEVICE
The SME solution provides content search from any device, be it desktop, web or mobile against all mapped data stores.
The desktop search also provides a search query builder that can tie content search into taxonomy categorisations to make it easier for end users or customers to easily search content.

ORGANIZING CONTENT WITH DATA CLASSIFICATIONS
To make the search and browse capabilities of content truly functional it is also required to use data classifications, or taxonomies.
Data Classifications are a way of classifying content and can be used to display specific content based on specific terms.
Taxonomies are different from the metadata that is indexed and searchable in that a taxonomy aids the organization of content and assets into hierarchical relationships.
Tags are a type of taxonomy that can be associated with a piece of content. A file tag field may be associated with any number of tags, and you can create queries to search for Content by tags.
Users can also create their own classification or taxonomy types for which they then can associate keywords. For example Trial, Witness, Judge, Doctor etc.
Classifications can be used with content indexing to allow some quite powerful searching ie. Search for Judge->Rinder for files that contain AcmeInc for the last six months.

INTEGRATED IDENTITY MANAGEMENT PERMISSIONS
The SME File Fabric ensures that indexed content is only available to users who have permission to access it.
This is made possible as the File Fabric ships with integration for either Active Directory or LDAP identity management systems. The search solution is configured to honour such permissions and users are only able to access search results that they have permissions to view.
