The 15th century inn provides a restaurant, accommodation and a wide range of facilities along with large grounds (4.5 acres).

Set within beautiful gardens on the border of Essex and Suffolk, conveniently located near Hedingham Castle, Colne Valley and is also within easy reach of Stansted Airport and Newmarket.

Inside the White Hart open fireplaces and traditional wooden beams create a relaxing and traditional feel, sitting inside you can sense the history around you.

We have a range of 11 en-suite rooms including, single, double, and twin rooms as well as our bridal suite for your wedding night or a romantic weekend. Rooms are available all year round.

The rooms are located in a separate block away from the main building offering a quiet and secluded area in which to enjoy your stay.

The decor is soft and inviting and the attention to detail has ensured that these rooms offer the very best in overnight accommodation.

Flat screen TV’s and internet access are installed in every room along with coffee and tea making equipment.

Both Continental and English breakfasts are available.

At the White Hart, we offer you both our 15th Century restaurant or the spacious mezzanine of the Essex Barn for you and your guests to witness your civil ceremony.

Both options have seating for up to 80 guests seated or up to 120 guests standing.

There’s no additional charge for using either of the rooms, as they are included in all our wedding packages.

You will need to arrange and cover the cost of a Registrar for the service. Our friendly wedding planner can provide all the details you need for this.

We’d recommend a time of 2pm for your service, to keep your day flowing smoothly. But it’s your big day, and you can hold your service, whenever you like.

The price per chair cover is £4.00 for the chair cover and including the sash which can be the colour of your choice in either organza material or satin material. We have a selection of colour sashes for you to have a look through. If we do not have the colour you require please drop off a swatch of your colour and we will do our best to either match the colour or get as close to the colour as we can.

The price of the chair also covers the pressing and dressing of each chair on site the night before and clearing of the covers the day after your wedding.

Terms & Conditions

1. A provisional booking will be held for a period of 14 days.

2. Payment Terms:

A booking is confirmed when a non- refundable deposit of £500.00 has been received. Exactly one year before the date of the event £1000 will be required. Three months before the event 50% of the total package price and evening buffet price is required. Exactly one month before the date the remaining package price, evening buffet price and all associated costs towards the day are to be paid with cleared funds.

3. Payments on account can not be refunded in the event of cancellation.

4. We require a damage deposit of £300.00 the day before the event. This will be kept on file and returned to you 5 days after your wedding day as long as there is no damage or missing items to any of the buildings, grounds or property of The White Hart.

5. a) Please do not bring any alcoholic or non alcoholic beverages to The White Hart, Great Yeldham. We have an excellent, competitively priced fully licensed bar and reserve the right to confiscate any beverages not purchased from The White Hart. Should anyone be found on the premises drinking alcohol not purchased from the White Hart a charge will be made to yourselves of the equivalent price.

b) Alcohol will not be served to guests under the age of 18.

c) The White Hart does not offer corkage

6. The White Hart does not allow any food to be brought to the event, apart from the Wedding cake.

7. All functions with additional evening guests must provide a buffet for 100% of the total guests.

8. It is the responsibility of the wedding party to organise with the registrar (Braintree district) if you would like a civil service at The White Hart. We can not accept any liability for a ceremony not taking place.

9. We advise all wedding parties should take out the appropriate insurance policy.

10. The White Hart can not accept any liability for lost or stolen wedding gifts, personal property or possessions. Any property left by the wedding party and their guests is at their own risk. Property can be stored in the bridal dressing room but the White Hart does not accept liability for any loss or damage.

11. The organisers must take full responsibility of guests invited by them and are required to ensure good conduct is maintained for the duration of the event. The organiser indemnifies The White Hart against the theft from, or damage to, White Hart property, both internally or in the surrounding grounds including the hotel accommodation. In case of theft or damage, the organising party agrees to replace or compensate any damage or stolen goods. Finally, the booking party will ensure that control is shown over any guests that behave in an unacceptable way.

12. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times for their own safety.

13) We only allow bio degradable confetti in the White Hart grounds.

14) The White Hart shall not be liable for any costs, loss of property, injury, damage or accident suffered by the organiser or their guests whilst on the premises. Vehicles may be parked in the designated areas, at the owners own risk. Cars must be removed from the premises no later that 11.30am the following day.

15) The booking party agrees to accept the terms and conditions aforementioned and undertakes to comply to these conditions. In the event of the breach, the booking party agrees to recompense The White Hart where necessary.

16) The White Hart reserves the right to cancel any event due to the non payment of monies outstanding in accordance with our payment terms, unforeseen circumstances outside it’s control or for any matter deemed necessary by the management and accepts no resultant responsibility financially or otherwise.

17) The Hotel accommodation will be provisionally booked out when you confirm your booking. It will be the client’s responsibility to provide names to the corresponding rooms.

18) Hotel accommodation will require a non refundable deposit of £20 per room. Guests will have to up to seven days before the event to cancel their room booking. If a room booking is cancelled after this time full payment will be required.

19) Smoking is only permitted in the designated outdoor areas.

20) Prices quoted on drinks are based on current rates of excise duty. Should the government impose any increases in these rates after the date of this agreement; The White Hart reserves the right to increase these prices accordingly, but will advise the client in good time. In the event of any disruption in food supplies, outside The White Hart, the client will be advised accordingly and a suitable alternative will be offered to the client.

21) Dietary requirements can be catered for but The White Hart cannot be held responsible for any adverse reaction.

22) The White Hart does not accept liability for any damage/costs incurred as a result of your outside suppliers.

23) All prices are shown without VAT. VAT will be charged at thecurrent rate

Origins and meanings behind our most cherished wedding traditions

Third finger, left handEngagement and wedding rings are traditionally worn on the third finger of the left hand. The Romans believed that in the vein in that finger runs directly to the heart. The wedding ring represents a never ending circle, symbolising everlasting love.

There is a large well lit off road car park. The car park is located around the entrance of the main building where reception and the restaurant is located.

We are happy to assist any guests from car park to entrance to room.

We are located on the A1017 in the quiet village of Great Yeldham.

The town of Halstead is a 5 minute drive.

The nearest bus stop is a 5 minute walk and the nearest main line train station is Free-Port Braintree a 15 minute drive.
