GreenData Manager Configurations
GreenSoft offers 4 different configurations of GreenData Manager (GDM) to fit your need: Desktop Edition, Workgroup Edition, Browser Edition and GDM Embedded Module.
1) GreenData Manager – Desktop Edition (GDM-DE)
GreenData Manager Desktop Edition (GDM-DE) is desktop software for
RoHS/REACH/Conflict Minerals and full material declaration Compliance
Management on one single computer. The software runs on MS XP, Vista or
Windows 7/8. Database is maintained in MS SQL Express.
2) GreenData Manager – Workgroup Edition (GDM-WE)
GreenData Manager Workgroup Edition (GDM-WE) is designed for multiple users
on a Local Area Network (LAN). The software carries the same function as GDM-DE,
but with multiple users sharing access to the same database. The software consists
of two major pieces:
Server side software hosts the component database (with all chemical
substance data and component compliance status data), rule database (with
all built-in regulations and the customer-specific rules), supplier database

with Conflict Minerals data and templates (CMRTs), and BOM database.
GDM-WE will also store the documentation database with all certificates or
material composition documents provided by suppliers. Software upgrade
can be conducted on the server side with one click after receiving notification
through email from GreenSoft. Server software can provide database backup
and restore functions.
Client side software provides the client side access to all databases hosted
inside GDM-WE. GDM-WE supports multiple clients access to the same
databases. All product compliance management tasks are done through the
use of GDM-WE client side software. The client can perform the functions
described above.
If VPN is provided, then there is a network access time requirement for network
latency delay of less than 25 msec. GDM software has the capability of restricting
users from different locations can only see the BOMs generated at such location.
People from other locations will not be able to see the BOMs at your location so
the BOM security is protected.
3) GreenData Manager – Browser Edition (GDM-BE)
GreenData Manager Browser Edition (GDM-BE) is a browser-based version
of the software that allows multiple users to access to compliance status and
reports from an Internet browser without installing any software (starts from
50 concurrent users and you can add more).
Management of compliance data is conducted through GDM-WE with access
by Administrator and seat-based clients.
4) GDM Embedded Module (eGDM)
eGDM is an add-on module to GDM software that contains a standard web
services interface (through SOAP messaging) to communicate with your
ERP/PLM/PDM automatically.
You can use eGDM to load in the parts lists of BOMs and the required
compliance regulations or customer requirements for compliance validation
from your ERP/PLM/PDM system to GDM software. eGDM returns the

compliance status of the parts or BOMs for the designated compliance
regulations or customer requirements, as well as creates reports in various
formats (roll-up status or aggregated substance in weight or PPM).
Data Exchange between GDM Software and
ERP/PLM/PDM
There are several ways to exchange data between GDM software and your ERP/PLM/PDM system, from manual mode to semi-auto mode and fully auto exchange mode. Each mode of data exchange is detailed below:
1) Manual Mode – Simple Exchange through Excel import and Excel
For customers who own a simple Compliance Interface Module from
ERP/PLM/PDM, a simple Excel file with components list and its associated
compliance status (such as for RoHS and REACH SVHC) and the associated
compliance documents in hyperlinks (as shown below) can be generated from
GDM and imported back to ERP/PLM/PDM. The naming convention on the
documents can be customized to fit your requirements and documents can
be imported through FTP as a whole without doing each one at a time. The same
Excel file can be generated on a per BOM basis so you can manage on the product
level as well.

2) Manual Mode – Simple Exchange through IPC-1752A XML with Material Declaration Data
In addition to presenting the RoHS and REACH compliance data in the Excel
file, you can also generate the material declaration data from GDM in IPC-
1752A XML format (covering Class A, C and D) and import the file to your
ERP/PLM/PDM system. You can also generate a human-readable IPC-1752A
Viewer file from GDM, which the receiver of the IPC files can view the
component data through their Internet browser without installing any
software. Click here to download a sample component IPC-1752A Viewer file
(This is a ZIP file; you will need to unzip it to a folder and open the “*.html”
file by using an Internet browser).
3) Semi-Auto Mode – Import BOMs through Folder Exchange
You can set up your ERP/PLM/PDM system to export BOMs to an external
folder, and GDM software will import these BOMs to GDM software
automatically. Once the collection efforts on all parts used in the BOMs are
completed, you can command GDM to generate Grand Reports (compliance
report with parts list, compliance status, and hyperlinks to the compliance
documents – similar to the one shown above) for all BOMs and export such
to another external folder for import into your ERP/PLM/PDM.
4) Fully Auto Mode – Direct Links to Compliance Status and Compliance Reporting (for GDM-BE users only)
If your objectives are to obtain the component compliance status and the
BOM level compliance status and reporting (RoHS/REACH/Conflict Minerals)

from GDM-BE software to your ERP/PLM/PDM system, and you don’t want
to do any programming from the ERP/PLM/PDM side, GreenSoft offers the
eGDM module that will provide direct links to the compliance status and
compliance reporting for components and BOMs.
To add the component compliance status at your ERP/PLM/PDM side, you
will need to add several columns to the component table from your system,
which may describe the compliance status or compliance details – as shown
below. A new column of “Compliance Details” is added to your ERP/PLM/PDM
screen.
GDM will help you populate the value for this column, which will be the URL
to one of the GDM-¬‐BE pages that shows the compliance details of the
designated component, as shown below. Please note that this web page is
part of the GDM-¬‐BE pages and it shows the component compliance status
for 6 different rules (or regulations) that you can change at any time:
1. Conflict Minerals – examine only
2. EU RoHS
3. Norwegian POHS
4. REACH SVHC (53)
5. REACH SVHC (73)
6. REACH SVHC (84)

You could do the same to add the BOM-level compliance status at your
ERP/PLM/PDM side. You can add a few columns to the BOM List table from
your system, which may describe the compliance details or the compliance
reports for the designated BOM – as shown below. Several new columns of
“Compliance Details – View Details and View Reports” are added to your
ERP/PLM/PDM screen.

GDM will help you populate the value for these 2 columns, which will be
the URL to the respective GDM-BE page that shows the compliance details
or compliance reports of such designated BOM, as shown below.

5) Fully Auto Mode – Full Data Exchange through Web Services Interface (for both GDM-WE and GDM-BE users)
If your objectives are to obtain full data exchange for component/BOM data
including compliance status, material composition substance data, and
associated documents, and various compliance reports or conflict minerals
reports (including CMRT forms for company level or product/product family
level), GreenSoft offers an eGDM module that will exchange the full set of
information between GDM software and your ERP/PLM/PDM system, through
SOAP messages.
eGDM module provides the full set of information from GDM database, including:
Items
BOMs
Rules (with chemical substances and thresholds)
Compliance status and documents (for items and BOMs)
Reports

The full set of web services that assess such 5 objects (items, BOMs, rules,
compliance status and documents, and reports) are shown below.
GreenSoft has also developed a set of sample codes to help you program the
interface to access the 5 objects through eGDM Module. Your IT person will
be able to do a quick try and learn about the interface of exchanging data
between GDM and your ERP/PLM/PDM system.

Conclusion
Data Exchange has become a key issue for OEMs so compliance data can be
shared through a company. This paper has summarized how data is exchanged
between GDM software and ERP/PLM/PDM systems, OEMs should be able to
find the best-¬‐fit configuration in GDM software and the exchange method
to share information between these 2 systems. This way the exchange of flat
files, Excel or XML between GDM and SAP can be done quickly and easily.
A summary table for different GDM configurations and the exchange method
is shown below.
