White Ribbon
HOST KIT
Thank you for signing up to this year’s Cheese for Change campaign and helping us raise $200,000 this March to end men’s violence against women.
Making women’s safety a man’s issue too
Welcome Thank you for hosting a Cheese for Change event! Whether your friends are coming together over a cheese platter, your family is having cheese toasties for dinner, or your work colleagues are having a cheesy afternoon tea, by fundraising for White Ribbon and talking about the issue, you are doing your part to help end men’s violence against women in Australia.
We were so inspired by the Cheese for Change events we saw in 2018 in schools, workplaces and communities.
Sadly though, men’s violence against women is still a prominent issue.
You can help change this statistic by encouraging your friends, family and colleagues to support your Cheesy event.
Whether it’s $500, $1,000 or $10,000 - every dollar, and every empowered individual, helps create a safer future.
Helps us raise $200,000 this year to extend our programs further in to communities like yours.
To get you started, we’ve created this host kit full of tips, ideas, checklists and talking points to help plan your event.
Thank you. It’s because of you we can create a future free from violence.
Kind regards,
The White Ribbon Events Team

Getting started
Personalise your Everyday Hero page. Update
your event photo and event description to tell
everyone why you’re passionate about White
Ribbon. The more people connect with your story,
the more likely they’ll be to attend or donate.
Set an ambitious goal. If you aim for the stars,
you’ll inspire people to give! Kickstart your
fundraiser, and make the first donation to your own
page to encourage others to give similarly.
Spread the word. Include your fundraising page
link in in your email signature banner (downloadable
here). Put up flyers, and ask to have your fundraising
page included in the office newsletter.
Get social. Email everyone - family, friends,
work colleagues, clients, neighbours, teammates!
Share your fundraising page on Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram and LinkedIn. Download your social
media tile.

Fundraising is key to White Ribbon being able to
continue our primary prevention work across Australia.
We always appreciate it when our hosts can incorporate
fundraising into their events.
How to add fundraising to your event:
• Ask your workplace if they will dollar match all of the
donations made by staff towards your event.
• Host an auction within your event. This could include
things such as an additional days annual leave, lunch
with the CEO, a social media makeover by your
marketing team, tickets to a local sporting event, or
yoga lessons from the group fitness yogi!
• Explain to people why you are passionate about
men’s violence against women, and why it should
matter / impacts them.
The possibilities are endless!
Who should I reach out to?
When reaching out for support, it’s important to
identify your circles of influence – the groups of people
you have a connection to. Think about family, friends,
co-workers, special interest groups or sports groups
you’re a part of. Then go one step further and look at
who your friends, family and contacts may work for,
or groups they are a part of. Maybe someone you’re
related to works for a local sporting group or organisation
that would consider supporting you. You never know
until you ask!

Ask your guests to donate $5 or $10 to attend your event

How your fundraising helps

Everyone loves cheese – but it’s important to remind
your guests about what you are raising funds for,
and why it’s so important. Take the time during your
Cheese for Change event to talk about some of the
following: -
• One women a week is killed at the hands of a
current or former partner in Australia. Why are levels
of violence against women in Australia so high?
• White Ribbon is a primary prevention organisation,
meaning that we try to stop the issue before it starts.
Why is prevention so critical in ending violence
against women?
• Violence against women is not just physical. What
other types of abuse have you heard of?
• How is gender equality linked to ending violence
against women?
• It can be tricky to recognise an abusive relationship.
What are some signs of an abusive relationship?
What would you do if you thought a friend, family
member or colleague might be experiencing a
relationship like this?
• (If your event is a workplace event) Discuss
what support your workplace offers for those
experiencing violence at home, or sexual
harassment at work.
• Violence against women is a man’s issue too. What
role do men play in preventing violence against
women? Why is their involvement so integral? If
there are men present at your Cheese for Change
event, address them directly and ask then why they
think it’s important to get involved.
• What does society tell us a “real man” is? Why
might this be damaging?
If you have trouble answering any of these questions,
explore our website for answers or get in touch
with us.
