White & Case was ranked #2 among top global law firms by legal publication Law360 in its annual
“Global 20" list of law firms with the greatest global reach and expertise. The Firm has been ranked
in the top five for the last five years, having been ranked second in 2013 and first in 2012 and 2014.
According to Law360's profile, "Whether facilitating complex cross-border mergers across 11
countries or fighting antitrust battles on behalf of pharmaceutical giants like Pfizer Inc. and
Shenzhen Hepalink Pharmaceuticals, White & Case LLP attorneys know how to think globally,
making the firm an easy choice for Law360's Global 20 list."
Noting that White & Case has long had “an international viewpoint," Law360 remarked that in 2014,
the Firm advised clients from 131 countries on matters involving 178 countries, and that, as of
March, 69 percent of its lawyers work outside the United States.
The profile quoted Firm partner and Executive Committee member David Koschik as saying that
what makes the Firm truly global is its employees, who comprise 93 nationalities and speak a total
of 79 languages. "They're used to working across borders in a very complex, deep way—not just
picking up the phone and hiring local counsel, but really knowing markets and knowing how people
get business done in jurisdictions all over the world."

"The attorneys at White & Case don't just work across borders—they live across borders," Law360
observed. As J. Mark Gidley, chair of the Firm's antitrust and competition practice, explained, being
on the ground and well versed in local law and culture makes our lawyers particularly well suited to
antitrust and competition work, adding that “We have the ability to handle a global competition
matter no matter where the legal jurisdiction is."
Law360 also recognized White & Case's project finance work, quoting project finance practice head
Art Scavone as saying that "Whether it is representing the sponsors in the $8 billion Rabigh
petrochemical expansion project or the lenders in the $207.5 million loan financing of Jordan's first
private industrial-scale photovoltaic park, we are able to help clients navigate challenging situations
to deliver results."
The profile also focused on the Firm's M&A team, noting that it had “been involved in three of the
most high-profile deals this year: Time Warner Cable Inc.'s proposed $78.7 billion sale to Charter
Communications, Inc., Anthem Inc.'s proposed $54 billion buyout of Cigna Corp., and Omnicare
Inc.'s proposed $12.7 billion merger with CVS Health Corp," as well as Regal Beloit Corp.'s US$1.44
billion purchase of Emerson Electric Co.'s power transmission solutions business. M&A practice
head John Reiss remarked, "This complex ‘carveout' transaction required coordination among 11 of
the firm's offices around the world to provide legal advice across multiple jurisdictions, including
Belgium, China, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Slovakia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, U.K. and the
United States."
Reiss added that the M&A practice continues to grow with the recent addition of eight lateral
partners—five of them outside the United States.
The profile concludes with Koschik stating his belief that the Firm's future growth will increasingly
stem from the flexibility and global acumen of its lawyers, and that consolidation within the legal
industry will help the Firm, given its ability to juggle multiple legal issues for its clients.
"We find that our clients increasingly don't necessarily come to us for a New York capital transaction,
or a London litigation," he notes. "They come to us with complex cross-border matters that have
long tentacles."
