    I. IntroductionTeaching English now a day is getting challenging to the teachers. English is

an international language which produces by almost all people around the

world. The rational consequence this fact is many kinds of English is created

accidentally by the users themselves. Language are developments equal

with human civilization, it change because of the need and the use.

English has spread all over the world as the side effect of the colonization in

the past. English itself has been changed and modified by time and its users.

It raises much kind of English around the world with different dialect and

    accent.

The problem rise when the English language position different in a country to

another. for example, in England, of course, their mother tongue are English,

and so do united states, it same condition with Australia, New Zealand and

many country which gives English as their first language, they must has

different treatment in teaching English if we compare with the country which

gives English as the second or even the foreign language.

Indonesia is a country which is English has position as the foreign language.

As English teacher, a question rise when dealing to student with various

English in the entire world. This paper will discover answer from the question

which English should we as non-native speaker English teacher work with

    the student.

I myself believe that Standard English is the ideal way to work with the

student. Since English as the foreign language, the English curriculum in

Indonesia emphesize the English as the media to access the knowledge from

overseas resources. English teacher in Indonesia which almost of them is

non-native speaker cannot be pushed to give more than the Standard

English to them. In reality, not all teachers, I can say including me, do not

confident if using kind of English. Luck of drills is a factor which makes this

effort in achieving being good in Standard English.

II. Standard EnglishCharacterization of Standard English should be noted that this is indeed a

characterization rather than a strict definition. We can describe what

Javanese is, for example, in such a way as to make ourselves very well

understood on the issue, but actually to define Javanese would be another

matter altogether. The characterization will also be as much negative as

positive - a clearer idea of what Standard English is can be obtained by

saying what it is not as well as by saying what it is. My discussion of this topic

will be both a sociolinguistic and a linguistic discussion.

Standard English is often referred to as "the standard language". It is clear,

however, that Standard English is not "a language" in any meaningful sense

of this term. Standard English, whatever it is, is less than a language, since

it is only one variety of English among many. But most native speakers of

English in the world are native speakers of some nonstandard variety of the

language, and English can be described as consisting of an autonomous

standardized variety together with all the nonstandard varieties which are

heteronymous with respect to it(Chambers and Trudgill, 1998:11). So

Standard English is not the English language but simply one variety of it.

It is true that in most cases Standard English speakers do not have "broad"

local accents i.e. accents with large numbers of regional features which are

phonologically and phonetically very distant from Received Pronunciation,

but it is clear that in principle we can say that, while Received Pronunciation

is in a sense, standardized, it is a standardized accent of English and not

Standard English itself. This point becomes even clearer from an

international perspective. Standard English speakers can be found in all

English-speaking countries, and it goes without saying that they speak this

variety with different non- Received Pronunciation accents depending on

    whether they came

III. Teaching EnglishIn the discussion above, the Standard English has been introduced. Teaching

English in classroom needs more than theory to implicate the best

communication in English not as the language but the subject. My opinion is

the Standard English is the best language manner to deal with the student,

especially the students that receive English as their second language or even

    foreign language.

Classroom is the place that the learning activity in English learning with the

language activities. Teacher need to know the technique in using Standard

English. Teacher has to have clear perception in the concept of spoken and

written English. As Carter (1997:59) point out it is difficult to find out the

precise border between spoken and written English as the result the worst

case sometimes happens when teacher is performing written English that it

is actually spoken English and vice versa.

IV. ConclusionFrom the discussion above, Standard English can be assumed as the uniform

in using language because it is not refers to accent or language itself. The

main issue in standard English rose for the teacher in classroom since

standard English is the best English that should the teacher work with the

student in the classroom. The issue is the need of teacher to mastering both

standard spoken and written English because it is difficult to distinguish

    booth of them.
