GREEK DEVELOPMENT -Greece is a European country, located within the Mediterranean Sea -To the east is the Aegean Sea -Beyond the Aegean lies Asia Minor

GREEK DEVELOPMENT Greece is made up of two peninsulas:

•The Balkan Peninsula home to Athens

•The Peloponnesus Peninsula home to Sparta

GREEK DEVELOPMENT -The rival city-state of Troy is located in Asia Minor -To the north of Greece is their mountainous neighboring kingdom, Macedonia

western civilization -Mountainous terrain helped & hindered the development of city-states

-makes up 75% of Greece -made it difficult for Greece to unite politically

arable(farmable) land -Greeks colonized(gain control of) many islands

-The Greeks developed a polytheistic religion -Greek mythology has been used for symbols in

Western literature, art & architecture

-Gods were the reason for natural phenomenon -thunder, rain, lightning, floods, earthquakes

-Gods and Goddesses had very human qualities -love, hate, and jealousy

-Greeks believed the Gods would interact and influence their own lives
