They played for themselves

Then they played for a few more people

They were just regular guys

Who got big

With them and this song, the “scene” happened

And then they played for a whole lot of people

It was a way to revolt against authority

It was what everybody was doing

I asked for a Nirvana CD for my birthday

I had never heard their music before

People like me were the reason the “scene” rose so fast and

ended so quickly

Somehow it wasn’t about the music anymore

Upon the shoulders of “loyal” fans like me the “scene” rested

And not surprisingly

It ended

Now we have the music without the “scene”

Like the way it once was

The lesson of the Seattle music scene:

Be careful what you wish for

Because sometimes it comes true
