Star-Spangled Sampler Box - Limited Edition - Kelmscott Designs

Our shipment has arrived ... and the three-dimensional nature of these adorable kits requires that we ship these as soon as possible as it is too difficult to store dozens of these boxes for very long without risking damaging the boxes, so we’re combining your orders to ship with other things if we have a partial order waiting for you. We’ve begun shipping these, but if you have one on order and would like it to have some “company” in the little cube box we need to use to protect the box, please let us know ASAP. It will take advantage of a necessary higher-than-normal postage charge for a delicate item. It is our goal that you receive your box BEFORE July 4th! Even without the stitching completed, it’s a great July 4th decoration! AND If you haven’t ordered yours yet, we have a very limited number of extras ... so get it in time for the 4th of July!

They’re Here!

Above, second in the series, this patriotic star-shaped box has a lid with a star-shaped pincushion.  On the pincushion is the alphabet and a line from the second stanza of the Star-Spangled Banner:  "Tis the star-spangled banner O! long may it wave." The box is perfect for another great pincushion on the inside made with the exclusive, custom-made waving flag fabric! Included in the kit is:  Star box, 2 star-shaped mother-of-pearl buttons and custom-made flag fabric.  $14 (Red storklettes are not included but available for $10.50)

“My Strawberry Pint” from Kelmscott DesignsSome of you asked about the first in the series, and so here it is, right, “My Strawberry Pint” This $14 limited-edition kit includes the handpainted papier mâché box (3.5 x 2.5 x 1.5), custom overdyed silk ribbon, Crescent Colours Bean Sprout rick-rack, red glasshead pins, chart & finishing instructions. We have 2 left! And add a cut of the 40c linen to complete this adorable project is available for $5 (Scissors pictured available for $11.50)

Have some summer suspenseful fun stitching this mystery sampler from Lizzie*Kate that will be revealed in 3 spooky parts beginning very soon. Our favorite fall motifs are all there ... owl, blackbird, candy corn, pumpkins, sunflowers, black cat, acorns, haunted house ... and leaves ... lots of beautiful leaves! This 3-part Halloween-themed sampler also includes 3 bonus designs. Weeks Dye Works is even releasing a new floss color early, exclusively for this mystery sampler!  19 skeins of Weeks flosses are used in the main design. The fabric being used is 30c Weeks Tin Roof linen. We also have some 35c available. And if you prefer a Lakeside Linen in 40c, 36c, or 32c, we have the perfect color set aside for this project. The design size for the main piece is 95w x 238h; on 30c that’s 6”w x 15.75”h. We’ll also be doing a conversion to silk overdyes (I know, we’re admittedly silk snobs and proud of it!)

It’s Almost Late June!

When ordering, please tell us:* linen count you’d like * hand-dyed Weeks floss or overdyed s i lk s (pr ice available after color list is published)

There will be a bonus pattern included with each monthly release as well, with 1 skein of Weeks used for each of the 3 bonus pieces. Each bonus pattern will have a design size of 50w x 50h (3 1/3” x 3 1/3”) on a 30c linen.

Can you stand it? Which is your favorite? It’s difficult to say, I know, each with its own charm.

A Special Gift from Grandma

This is an example of what gives me such enjoyment in writing this newsletter and sharing with you these very special projects ~ guaranteed that it will make your heart sing: Linda D’s adorable “Church Doll Sampler Roll” $12 from Heartstring Samplery that she made for Clara, her 5-year-old granddaughter ~ she made the doll as well ... and filled a pocket with more tiny toys, below. And, left, the cover photo on the chartpack shows a lovely sampler stitched in muted colors if a sampler roll doesn’t have appeal for you.

And Clara’s older sister, six-year-old Annie, sent her Grandma this artwork. Annie is obviously very aware of her Grandma’s passion for needlework as she captioned her artwork “Designs for your Stitching.” What a treasure!

This makes one want to come back as Linda’s granddaughter, doesn’t it?

Holly’s Homemade Bakery & CafeThis new (since October 2011) Gilbert business John and I discovered on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, and then last Saturday we went again to have brunch before our Father’s Day shopping at Brighton’s :-) ... and as we were enjoying our eggs, I saw this fabulous cake, below, in the display case and couldn’t resist taking it with us to serve at Sampler Sunday, to celebrate Linda D’s birthday ... and the 4th of July! And I am pleased to tell any of you living in the area about this locally owned small business in Gilbert, fulfilling Holly’s longtime dream ... she grew up in Wisconsin, as did I, and the delicious baked goods, breakfast and lunch items, specialty cakes and party trays, and the small-town atmosphere and customer service make me think that I’m back there, if only for an hour. Located on South Val Vista next to Stein Mart, I hope that you’ll support this locally owned business, stop in and enjoy some of Holly’s treats, and tell her that John and Jean said hi! Clockwise from the left: 2 more of Linda D’s

beautiful finishes, both by Little House Needleworks: “Stitcher's Heart” that was paired with “Gentle Stitches” $30 released at the Nashville 2012 market ~ and “My Lady” $8, embellished with a Sterling Silver doll charm set.

Two Beautiful Reproductions

Above, sometime ago Terri brought her beautiful “Justine’s Sampler” $36 to a Sampler Sunday, and I didn’t want to show it until I could find out if the reproduction was still available, and thanks to Terri, I did! When you purchase this 12-page chart, in addition to this stunning sampler reproduction, if you are a sampler lover, you will be enchanted by the several pages of history written by the original reproductionist, Anne Pelletier Pauleau, and translated by Anne Lucie Boekdrukker, as well as color photographs of Justine’s church/school, her little street, and the wonderful town of Salon de Provence. There are also photographs of Lynn Jones’ wonderful reproduction, as well as reference to the attribution that Lynn included on her reproduction: “Reproduction wrought by Lynn Jones 2003. Original wrought by Justine Matthy in 1818 at the age of 8. She died at the age of 10.” What a lovely tribute to a beautiful piece of historical needlework!

Someone suggested that Gigi R’s “Anne Lansac” reproduction $21, on its way to us from Belgium, would make a lovely companion to Justine’s ~ and it certainly would!

A b o v e , t h e overdyed s i lk conversion we did form the cotton overdyes ~ right, a small snippet of the gorgeous rose border!
