Weekly News for the week beginning Monday 1st May 2017

I was thinking that this week had been quieter in school than normal and then I

remembered that Year 5 have been away all week in Swanage and so I have missed

their daily to and fro outside my room! I spent yesterday with them all in Swanage

and Studland Bay and everyone was having a great time, including me! There is

something very special about a school residential…

In school everyone else has been very busy as ever and it has been lovely to be

seeing so many children now with 50 stars on their charts, charts that tell the

story of a year of successes and special moments in their learning. Great too to

hear what a credit to the school and to themselves Year 1 were in Mass at St Pius

yesterday.

Next week on Friday is our monthly Open afternoon and I do hope that you will be

able to take the opportunity to pop into your children’s classroom and let them

show you what they have been learning since Easter.

In the meantime, our prayers are with our Year 6s as they sit the national tests

next week and I hope that you all enjoy your weekends.

Along with Sainsburys too…

This is the easiest way to raise money for our school!

Simply purchase Gift Cards from the school office as you need OR complete a Direct Debit form and Sainsbury’s or John Lewis will donate 5% of your spend back to the school! If you opt for Direct Debit you can pick up your Gift Cards from the office every month and a reminder will be sent via Parentmail.

John Lewis and Waitrose gift cards can also be used online as well as in store!

If every family in the school purchased around £100 of gift cards per month

the school would stand to raise a whopping £20,000 per year!!!

Let’s try to make this happen!

Drowning in Cuddly Toys? Donations welcome….from Monday 8th May

Why not donate some to the PTA?

By popular demand, the “Teddy Stall” will be returning this summer, so please bring in any unwanted

teddies and cuddly toys in good condition, into the school office, there will be a donation box from 8th May.

Unwanted Crockery? Donations welcome….

As part of our Summer Fayre in June, we are planning a Crockery Smash Stall! Any donations of unwanted crockery are most welcome. Please bring along to the school office, in a cardboard box or similar to avoid any early breakages!

We’re looking for a loan of straw bales to use at our Summer Fayre on Saturday 10th

June, namely for the Crockery Smash and Tin Can Alley Stalls, and to decorate the site on the day as part of our “Wild West” theme.

As they’re only needed for the day itself, they can be returned to their owner the following week. Please get in touch if you know of anyone who might lend us a few bales…… [email protected]

Give us a like on Facebook, and keep up with upcoming PTA events !

Thank you for your continued support

The Council have now published notice of the road safety initiative around the Merrow area which

includes the parking restrictions around St Thomas’, St Peter’s and Boxgrove. The final plans can be

viewed at the Council offices at Millmead and the local libraries. Reading the notice (which was published

in the Surrey Ad on 28th April), the restrictions appear as proposed for Horseshoe Lane West with no

waiting at any time restrictions at the Boxgrove and Epsom Road ends of the Lane and on the bend in the

road and around the entrances to Greencroft and White House Drive. The No Stopping on the yellow zig-

zags outside the school will also be formalised so that rather than being simply advisory it will become

enforceable. We will wait and see when the restrictions actually appear and then measure the impact

before deciding on our next step. In the meantime please drive and park carefully and considerately

around the school…

We are celebrating our 50th anniversary as a school this summer. There will be

lots going on in school including our Art Week which is centred around the

decades of art since the school opened.

The number of children in care in Surrey has increased recently and hovers around 900 children. We continue to have to place 40% of those in foster care outside of Surrey because we haven’t got enough foster carers. Surrey county council need foster carers for children of all ages, from birth to 18, for supported lodgings carers for young people aged 16-21, and Short Breaks carers for children with disabilities. Whether you are married or single, male or female, straight or gay, whatever your cultural heritage, do or don’t have your own children, rent or own your home, work or don’t work, we would love to hear from you. You do need to have a spare room, or if you want to become a Short Breaks carer, be able to make a room available when the child stays with you.
