“Where Do I Start with Essential Oils?!”

The Busy Mom’s Guide to Getting Started with Essential Oils

1 Purchase the Starter Kit – This Young Living Premium Starter Kit is the most affordable way to get a collection of popular oils and everything you need to get started with them. It includes Young Living’s Everyday Oils Collection which consists of (10) 5ml bottles of their most popular essential oils and blends. Plus a home diffuser (that diffuses essential oils into the air of your home), a roller ball you can put on any of the bottles, some samples of other essential oils, and all of the books and educational materials you will need to get started!

2 Read About Safety – Take some time while you’re waiting for your

kit to arrive to familiarize yourself with the safety of essential oils. There are some resources in this post that might help.

3 Join a Facebook Group – With the purchase of the above

mentioned starter kit, you will also be automatically added to The Oil Nation Facebook Group that is full of other mamas who are already using essential oils and leaders in the Young Living industry. They are FULL of information and ideas for getting started and are super helpful with any questions you might have.

4 Keep Oil Info Handy – All of the different oils and their different

uses and safety concerns can seem VERY overwhelming. Organize the information in a convenient way for you. Make a special folder for Bookmarking helpful Internet resources (like this one – *wink*). Download the Reference Guide for Essential Oils app on your phone. And print and hang this Essential Oils Cheat Sheet on your fridge.

!

5 Start Slow – My friend and fellow blogger (at Lemon Lime Adventures), Dayna, shares how she started with essential oils: “Due to my son’s sensory needs we had to start really slow. We diffused 1 oil only 20 minutes at a time each day for 2 weeks. Then slowly increased that to more. We then tried the oil on his big toe before applying anywhere else.”

6 Use Your Diffuser – The first thing I got out of my Starter Kit when it

arrived was my diffuser. With no worries about topical oil application and dillution, it’s super easy to use right away. Plus it makes the house smell great!

7 Prepare Oil Blends Ahead of Time – Essential oil “veteran” and blogger at Surviving the Stores, Rachel Holland, shares her favorite tip: “I love pre-mixing kid-friendly essential oils in rollerballs so that I have the oils that they need on-the-go without having to worry about having a bottle of carrier oil in my purse too.”

8 Focus on One or Two Issues at a Time – Use your cheat sheet and choose one or two oils to focus on and “get to know” at a time. Or choose your most prominent “issues” (mood, immune support, skin care, etc.) to focus on at a time. Find what works with and for them before moving on to another oil or issue.

9 Incorporate Oils Into Sensory Play – Adding a drop of mood-

boosting oil (lavender is a popular one) to your child’s playdough or sensory play is an easy way to dip your toes into using essential oils with your kids.

10 Add a Couple New Oils Every Month – Keep an eye out in the

Facebook Group and online for other oils you’d like to try. (Cedarwood, Valor and Vetiver are on my list for next month!) Consider signing up for the Young Living Essential Rewards program to get affordable oils each month and points toward free oils, too!
