About Belmont World FilmBelmont World Film is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding through the universal language of film. In addition to showing award-winning feature films, documentaries, animation, and shorts from around the world, our screenings feature in-depth discussions led by filmmakers and experts, as well as cultural performances and ethnic cuisine.

Each year we work with local and international organizations to present a Family Festival in January, an international film series in the spring, and other special events throughout the year. Films come from countries from far away as Bhutan, Bolivia, Brazil, Iraq, Latvia, Mongolia and Uganda, and as close as Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, and the United Kingdom.

Since 2002, Belmont World Film’s Family Film Festival has been a must-attend event for families in the Greater Boston area with children ages 3-12, offering the opportunity to view some of the world’s most significant films for children as they were meant to be seen — on a big screen as a shared experience with others — as well as opening a window into the lives of children in other countries.

Aardman Animation Model Making Workshops Led by Wallace & Gromit Creative Director Merlin Crossingham

10:00-11:30 AM Workshop I: Shaun the Sheep 2:00-3:30 PM Workshop II: Gromit Have you or your child ever wanted to understand how clay animation works? Aardman, the creative people behind such groundbreaking clay animated films as Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit films is offering a unique opportunity for you or your child to learn directly from Creative Director Merlin Crossingham, who is coming all the way from the UK!

This creative and hands-on activity allows you to make your own Shaun the Sheep or Gromit clay model. Merlin will then teach participants how to animate their character using their easy to use Animate It! software and an iPad. Participants should bring an iPad or an iPhone (the image will be much smaller, though) with either the free Animate It! lite version or the $2.99 full version downloaded from the iTunes App Store. If you cannot bring your own iPad or iPhone with the app, please let us know, as we will have a few iPads available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Many thanks to the Belmont Media Center for hosting the workshops. $20/person per workshop. Reserve online by December 28, where you’ll find additional information on how to prepare for the workshop. Accompanying parents/guardians do not need to purchase tickets.

About the Presenter, Merlin Crossingham Merlin joined Aardman as an animator in 1996 having completed a degree in Film and Photography at the Newport Film School. Initially working on commercials before taking the roles of Key Animator on the feature film Chicken Run, and Second Unit Director on Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit, Merlin then co-directed the Creature Comforts USA series for CBS, for which he earned an Emmy nomination. In 2009, he took on the role of Creative Director for Wallace & Gromit. He is currently Animation Director for Early Man, Nick Park’s latest feature film set for global release in January 2018.
