• At this time…– You should be narrowing down the list of schools
you’d like to apply to.– You need to start thinking about what you’re
going to do after you leave Somerset
(8 months)– You should not only know exactly where you are
going to apply, but have already begun completing some applications
• Stuff to get together– Completed application (with essay if required)– Teacher recommendations (for the schools that
require it)– SAT/ACT scores – Transcripts (available outside my office)
• Wait for the decisions to roll in– Early Action/Decision: December/January– Regular Admissions: February/March/April– Rolling Admissions: Happening Now!

• Paying for school– Federal/Government, need-based financial aid.
• Financial aid package (FAFSA)
– Scholarships (Sign Up for My Emails)• Institutional Scholarships
– Scholarships distributed by individual schools (need and merit based)– Financial aid package
• Private Scholarships– Scholarships that are available from companies and individuals– There’s usually an application process (can be competitive)– If earned, it is up to your discretion on how the money is used. – There are BILLIONS of dollars available!

• The FAFSA is the Gatekeeper to 99.9% of financial aid.
• No FAFSA = Financial Aid
• Deadline: – The FAFSA will be available online on January
1st. – However, before completing the FAFSA your
parents must prepare their taxes.• No Taxes = No FAFSA
• Federal Government/Need Based Financial Aid– Grants (do not need to be repaid)
• Federal Pell Grant ($5,550 max 2012-2013)• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
(FSEOG; $4,000 max)– “Campus based”: campus limits, so apply early.
• “TEACH” Grant ($4,000 max)• Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (max $5,550)
• Work-Study Programs– Part-time job to make money for school
• Scholarships– Also money that does not need to be paid
