Dear Parents/Caregivers
Parent Participation Sets a Standard
A huge thank you to those parents who not only came along to Tuesday’s Jump Rope for Heart ‘Jump Off’ event, but joined in and helped out with the skipping. It gave the event a real community feel which reflects the culture of our school. Recently we have had a number of whole school events and when everyone joins in (bright blue hair or not) the happiness that flows from such events has many long-term benefits to a school such as a reduction in the number of bullying incidents.
I did point out at last Friday’s assembly that whilst some were calling for a national day of action against bullying, that at Banksia Grove Primary, every day is an anti-bullying day. I also reminded everyone that the most important strategy for countering bullying is telling someone about it. This is especially important when it comes to cyber-bullying. Parents/Carers need to be particularly mindful that children getting bullied online sometimes don’t tell anyone about the problem in fear that they will lose the privilege of being on a computer. Children need to be reassured that if they report something that makes them feel unsafe, that they are doing the right and responsible thing.
Amazing Assemblies
The fantastic community turn out to last Friday’s assembly reminded me to thank everyone for the support they are giving to the students getting a merit certificate or the class leading the assembly. Your commitment to giving up your personal time to attend an assembly reinforces to your child the importance of school. Some years ago, we used to have a family commitment diary to try and encourage this level of support. Judging by last week’s turn out, we have achieved our desired outcome.
