July Presidents message... I am so flattered by all the kind words and support I have received since taking on my new role as president. I am also impressed with all the talented, creative and generous people we have in this club that I have been so lucky to work with. Our club’s greatest asset by far is our people. I am so grateful to be a part of this group. Time flies when you are having fun. I can’t believe I am writing for the July newsletter already. We have had a lot of club activity since I wrote last. I was fortunate to participate in the Memorial Day Weekend tour. What an awesome weekend that turned out to be. Mark and Deb Zimmer had many activities planned out and many options to satisfy everyone. A hospitality suite was available for all to gather and share stories of the day’s activities. Some options offered were a toy museum tour, a brewery, a river boat trip, gambling and many great food options. There is so much to do in Dubuque, definitely worth another trip back to see more. The weather was perfect!! Of course that same weekend we honored those brave souls who gave their lives to better our country. Ed Krug led our group at the Memorial Day parade in Milwaukee. Thank you to all our club veteran’s for your ser-vice. Model A Day in Sharon, WI, was another event some of our members participated in. Randy and Ellen Kind hosted that one. We debuted our new club flyers. You’ll hear more about those in this newsletter. Thanks again to Karen Schmiechen and Ellen Kind for their help on that project. One last event was the Tour to the Terrace. Thanks to Dennis and Anne Wacker for their help with the final pieces of the tour, taking over for Gene and Betsy Taurman. We really appreciate both families’ help with this one. We had been asked to do a car show for the residents of Terrace Place in Sheboygan. Gene had a great idea to turn it into a tour. I am quite sure the residents were thrilled and appreciative. Thanks to every-one who participated in this special and unique tour. Lots of stuff coming yet. We have more parades, a car show, a July tour that incorporates chocolate in to it. How can you go wrong there? The Wisconsin Rapids reunion weekend event is another not to miss event. If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend you checking it out. It is a great weekend packed full of fun activ-ities for all ages. Be sure to pre-register so the planners know how many to expect. Summer is a busy time. So much to do, so little time. Get out as often as you can to show off your Chitty’s. People love seeing you!! Till next time….. Ahooga!!! Deb Lewis

WAUKESHA BLUESFEST Okay, here we go again. I know it is early in the year but I will need to let the organizers know if we are at-tending by August 1st. Thus far no one has shown an interest. I am afraid we will lose this great opportunity to that “other” model ‘A’ club. The 2017 Waukesha Bluesfest (www.waukeshabluesfest.com) will be held Saturday, August 12. Waukesha BluesFest is a celebration of the “Roots” of American Music which includes blues, rock and roll, country, gos-pel, soul, jazz, and folk. The event is held at Naga-waukee Park in Delafield located on Highway 83 about one mile North of I-94. Free admission is provided. We would like you to arrive between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. (weather permit-ting) and stay until 6:30 p.m. but you may leave when you wish and are welcome to stay until closing at 10:30 p.m. The Headliner for Saturday night is Ana Popovic. Ana and her powerful band are tirelessly touring, playing major blues, jazz and rock festivals. Ana has shared headlining stages with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr. and many others. She’s nominated for five Blues Mu-sic Awards, appeared on the cover of Vintage Guitar and Guitar Player magazine. Nearly all of Ana's albums made the Top 5 of the Billboard Blues Charts and are being played regularly on US radio. “Ana Popovic is one helluva a guitar-player.” - Bruce Springsteen “Ana rocks the blues in fine, fine fashion.” - Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) This is a great opportunity to show off your car and promote the club. We get a large number of “lookers” who have an interest in our cars. If you are interested please contact me at 262-544-5005 or [email protected]

Our newly remodeled club flyer is here!!

The board was asked to consider updating our out-dated advertising/application flyers. We asked for some volunteers to assist with this project. Ellen Kind and Karen Schmiechen volunteered to work with Deb Lewis.

The result was a handout printed on shiny, colorful cardstock. We wanted someone who picks it up to know that if they have an interest in "A's" even if they don't have one, they can join us. We wanted them to know who we are and the key things that make our club great. We want them to go to our website for full information about our tours, pictures, contacts, membership and MAFCA information. In addition, some flyer hangers have been designed to help display and distribute them. They are made of denim and designed to hang over the hood ornament/door handle. If you would like one to use when you go places in your "A," let Karen Schmiechen (262-544-5005) know and she will make one for you. The new flyers will be available at all club functions from any of your board members. Please consider helping us distribute them. Together we can grow our club!

The clubs Go Daddy (website) account is up for renewal so Deb put it in her name. The club will continue to work on a new web site and securing a new webmaster. The new club bro-chure is complete and is now one piece instead of two. An article is going into “Wheeling the A” regarding the bro-chure. ’A’ Trip Back to 1961 President – Ron Werderitech, Vice President – Bob Koeckritz Treasurer – Joe Komar, Secretary – Wes Campbell The April Economy Run went off in fine style and all enjoyed it. Trophies were awarded to Ray Bastian– 1st, Bob Hintz – 2nd, and Joe Komar – 3rd. Ray was pleased as punch as he had just signed up that day and walked off with a trophy. Rain started as the run ended and Joe ended up driving his freshly restored phae-ton (without a top) home in a downpour. For the restorer who needs some steam cleaning done on his ‘A’. The A-1 Auto, Commercial and Industrial Cleaning Co. at 1652 N. Water, phone BR 2-8253. He has an excellent portable steam cleaning rig and comes right to your garage. The price is quite reasonable, only $10 to do the entire engine and under-chassis of an ‘A’. August found us at the Venetian Nights Festival at the lake shore of Port Washington. We had a wonderful turn-out of cars and members. Incidentally, we were paid for this. After the meet we all stopped at the Port Silver Diner for supper. The manager became excited when we all walked in as he thought we all wanted to be seated at one table. Everyone had a wonderful day. Attendees at the September 16th AACA meet held at the Mayfair shopping center included Joe Komar, Carl Olsen, Red Zagar, Stan Schultz, Don Ackermann, Alfred Lathrop, and Wes Campbell. Joe, Stan, Carl, Don and Red took prizes at this meet. A wonderful buffet lunch was served at the meet. On a beautiful October day, a group of ENTHUSIASTIC club members toured the Kettle Moraine area south-west of Waukesha. There we all were awed by the brilliant color of the trees and other foliage. Wally Klager was the tour leader and did a fine job; he sure does know the trunk roads well. Even though we used the side roads, traffic was heavy at times. It seems that everyone took advantage of the nice weather and the brilliant colors. The November costume party and dance was attended by 29 members and 76 guests. Free beer, live music and food all for the price of $1.50/person was the attraction. Art Sternhagen and his wife, Carol, came with 12 of their friends of which one was a tall scintillating blonde named Iris. We later found out Iris was a man in costume! Stavers came as a beatnik, his wife as well as Jan Klager and Rose Schultze came as flappers. John Nally came as a cowboy, Joe Komar wore his ‘Frank Nitty’ suit replete with vest but no spats. Wally Klager and Alan Egelseer wore knickers and Stan Schultze wore a Chinese costume. Lee Collins wore a flap-per dress. Many non-members were also in costume. Wes Campbell went to the hospital for x-rays to see if he had kidney stones. The doctor was amazed at the x-ray. Didn’t find any stones; turned out to be Model ‘A’ ball bearings! A real enthusiast! In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Wisconsin Chapter of MAFCA, we will have one drawing a month through-out the 2017 year for a $60 gift card. The drawing will take place at the monthly indoor and outdoor events. You must sign in at the meet/tour to be included in the drawing. Increase your chances to win by be-ing active in your club and attending these events. Sorry, you may win only once during the year. June’s win-ner was Peter Stauber! Congratulations! -Bob & Karen

Looking back in the rearview mirror... A bright sunny day with cooler temps made the start of the Memorial Day overnighter 2017 easy to take! Groups started out from various locations, meeting up at Baumgartner's Tavern in Monroe around 12:30 p.m. for a great lunch, some members moseying over to a local distillery to get "educated". Our destination was the Best Western in Dubuque where the hospitality room was well stocked with local Dubuque eats and re-freshments. Saturday, blessed again with good weather, we headed west to Dyersville to tour the Farm Toy Museum, an antique store, and lunch at the Country Junction Restaurant. After regrouping at the motel, it was off to downtown Dubuque for a ride on the Fenelon Place Elevator, quenching our thirst at Paul’s Big Game Tap, where Dave and Dennis were destined to became locals until the wee hours! An invitation was extended for those who wished to join us for dinner Saturday night at Timmerman’s Restau-rant in East Dubuque, where we had a fantastic view and great meal, overlooking the bluffs and majestic Mis-sissippi. Floor to ceiling glass walls, let us observe a passing thunderstorm which was over by the time we departed for the Best Western. Sunday started with a trip to the Potosi Brewery in the hamlet nestled between the river bluffs. It was a beautiful day to sit out-side on the Brewery's patio, drink a handcrafted beer and watch the Indy race! The evening was topped off with a trip on the American Lady, boarding at 5:30 for a calm scenic ride on the Mississippi. Seeing Dubuque from a different angle, while en-joying BBQ Chicken and Fried Catfish. The night was still young, and there was one more item on the agenda before heading back to the Best Western. We took a "Three State Tour", touring Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa all in an hours’ time, ending up back at the Best Western's Hospitali-ty Room with comments from President Deb Lewis and tables of Polish Poker. We were honored to host the Memorial weekend event this year and getting to know everyone much more. What a great club, and truly beautiful and fun people to share good times with! Now off to a great Summer! Mark & Deb Zimmer More pictures on next page….
