12
Psalm 24 begins with poetic abruptness : "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein." The belief is total in its scope. Everything there is, everything you see and even what you cannot – all things – are God's. And the reasoning is simple : "For he has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the rivers." Everything is God's because God created everything. No wiggle room for exceptions. Everything we have, everything we are, is God's. So, what is ours? Ours is really only to acknowledge, in our words, in our actions, in all of our living, that it is all his. What's ours is to acknowledge that it is all his. Everything. The singer of the psalm goes on in two musical refrains to tell us what this means, practically for us. In the first stanza we're told that because all of it is God's we must live our lives seeking his face. If God is the creator of all things, if he is at the center of it all, then our lives - all of our lives, completely, totally - must center upon him. Because our lives are his anyway. To acknowledge that your life is completely, totally God's is to live life the way that God has laid it out for us to live. To live in a commensurate relationship with his story, with his word. It means that we discipline ourselves to do the things that Jesus does, to love the way that Jesus loves. Jesus, when he dwelt among us, sought out the poor and loved them. He sought out injustice, and gave everything to make the world just. He sought out the unloved by neighbors but still incredibly loved by God, and made sure we knew we were loved. The singer tells us that to acknowledge it's all his is to keep oneself in step with the life he's called you to live. The other piece in acknowledging that all of it is his anyway is to prepare this world for his return. The Psalmist calls out for the gates to be lifted up in order that the King may come in. Ours is to acknowledge, in all that we are and do, that the earth and all that is in it is his by preparing for his arrival. This is the call for you and me to give all that God's given us (continued on back cover) 1 NOV. 2016 newsletter What’s Ours is to Acknowledge it’s All His

TURLOCK GOSPEL MISSION WINTER RELIEF Feeding/Housing Women and Children

Sunday, November 27- Saturday, December 3

Once again we are participating with other area churches

to care for the homeless during the cold winter months. We

need to feed them seven nights in a row. Gather some

family or friends and volunteer to host one of the dinners.

Contact Annette Diliberto (968-0696) or Ronda Tinley (648-3760) for the date that

works best for you. We also need volunteers to set out breakfast food in the mornings. Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they

have done.”

PRAYER PAGE ALERT!! As the new ministry year began in

September, we will be updating the “Long

Term Prayer Concerns” in the newsletter.

If you want your friends and loved ones to continue on this list in the year ahead,

please contact Beth in the office

(668-0400). (Calling #2)

Calling # 4

Sunday Mornings This NOVEMBER!

With November – and Thankful Thanksgiving around the corner – our K-5th grade kids are learning about Honor, treating others the way I want to be treated. Our Nursery & Preschoolers also have an awesome theme of Hand in Hand exploring

how to be thankful for people who help them! This month our kids will have a busy month learning about Jesus – and having fun!

We have two awesome themes for both age groups this November! We have FOUR awesome weeks planned for your kids – please come and worship with us!

Nursery & Preschool – Hand in Hand! “Always give thanks to God.” Ephesians 5:20. This month our babies through four year olds will be exploring the question: Who are

you thankful for? By the end of November, they will know to be thankful for people who help them!

Kindergarten-5th grade –Spotlight Honor! “Love one another deeply. Honor others

more than yourselves.” Romans 12:10, NIrV. This month our K-5 kids will be exploring the idea of Honor –letting someone know you see how valuable they really

are.

Please note – Our K-5 kids will still be worshiping up in KidSPACE. Each week we will be exploring the story of JESUS – our place in it – and why Honor is

important. We will be splitting into three groups rather than four. Our new groups are: 3-5 year olds, K-1st, and 3rd-5th.Drop-off and Pick-up will remain the same.

Potato bar and pie auction

cbe old testament kick-off

Sunday, November 20 after church

Rod and Norma Avilla are coordinating this fundraiser for Hume Lake Winter Camps. Come and enjoy a delicious baked potato bar lunch, then bid generously on the

scrumptious pies – baked by our own Hilmar Covenant chefs! Finally, Pastor Casey will be presenting the next small group opportunity for our church, once again using the “Community Bible Experience” resource. It is the Old Testament from Genesis

through Kings. Don’t miss this important time together on the 20th.

DANIEL LEMKE IS BACK!

In July, Daniel completed his 15 month bike trek around the USA to bring attention to the

horror of human trafficking. Now he is settling in our area and plans to continue addressing

this issue by creating job opportunities for those recovering from being trafficked. One of

these is a large scale “aquaponics

farm” that will provide all kinds of

produce for sale. To help people

understand this process, and to seek

support, Daniel has created a small

aquaponics system at the entryway to

our church. Watch the veggies grow –

and purchase the results each month!

For more information, contact Daniel

@ 970-510-0706 or

[email protected]

COLUMBARIUM UPDATE: Be watching for an artist’s rendering of what the Columbarium and Memorial Walk and Garden might look like, if it is approved and the funding comes in. If you are interested in purchasing a niche or a memorial brick in honor of friends, loved ones, former members, etc. please bring your brochure form to the church office.

One of our new worship leaders is in need of a car. If you have one to sell, get rid of, or know someone who does, let Pastor Dan know soon. Paul Medina is stranded in Modesto!

We have put together a 2016 Church

Directory! Pick yours up in the church

office or after church on Sunday!

(Continued from front cover) – from our belongings, to our careers, to our time, to our money, to our voices, to our votes – all to God. To ask ourselves why God has given us these things, and then to acknowledge that they are his by using them for his purpose, in his Kingdom. We go through life tending to split things up. Separating our public lives from our private lives. Our careers from our families. Our salaries from our tithes. Our church from our nation. Benefits for ourselves from sacrifice for others. But, life rarely cuts up in equal parts. Truth is, all of life, public and private, is God's. Career and family, together, is God's. Salaries and tithes, all from and to God. Our church and nation all exist within God's Kingdom, which is our highest calling. And, really, in God's Kingdom economy, sacrificing for others is the greatest benefit (and love), for all, including ourselves. All of it is God's. All of it. The earth and everything in it. All who dwell in it. All because he's created it. Ours is simply to acknowledge that it is his, and shape our lives according to that truth. Thanks be to God for all that he's given, and for all we can give back to him.

Pastor Casey
