Why is the media content we consume as important as the food we eat

MMA believes that diversity of programming is essential to our democracy and to meeting the viewing needs of all audiences.

The public broadcaster needs to ensure that it broadcasts quality, independent programming that contributes to a plurality of opinions and an informed public

The TV we watch can either be good or bad for us, particularly if the industry does not reflect diversity.

Implications for the sustainability of the SABC and public service programming in the digital

age Current practices of lack of programming diversity indicates that

digital multi channel environment will reinforce the status quo

Channel multiplicity is a necessary but not sufficient condition for diversity of programming

Effective policy and regulatory frameworks are needed to ensure channel multiplicity is transformed into programming diversity
