Film Night Talking Pictures Film NightTango(1999) cert: 12Dir: Carlos Saura
Thursday 3rd
May 7.00pm Contact: 0208 489 1429 forfurther details.Set in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the film tells the story of directorMario Suarez's quest to make the ultimate tango film. Lonely afterhis wife (one of the film's stars) has left him, Mario must find thethemes that will hold the film together, while simultaneouslypermitting his musicians and dancers the freedom of expressionthat is necessary to satisfy the tango-hungry Argentine audience.Things become complicated when Mario falls in love with Elena, abeautiful and talented young dancer who is the girlfriend of thepowerful and dangerous Angelo Larroca, an investor in the picture. And Mario's creative vision is challenged by his investors when heplans a scene that recreates Argentina's dark years of politicalsuppression and "disappearances".
