Logan City Council Libraries provide a wide range of services and activities for the whole community.

Logan Outreach Van Easy Meets

Logan Library is coming to you!

The LOV EM project aims to provide library services to those areas of Logan without close Library access.

Free programs will be provided at Eagleby, and Flagstone in August and September.

Activities on the day include digital stories workshops, tête-à-têa, technology for toddlers and parents, tech table exploring new technology, informative talks and training by staff and presenters, storytelling, baby time, toddler time, family reading groups, homework help, research skills, and gaming.

Come along, have a cuppa with us and learn something new. No bookings necessary. For more information, contact 3412 4663 or see our website www.loganlibraries.org/lovem.

At Eagleby, Logan Libraries Outreach Van will be running programs and activities for adults, teens and children from noon to 4 pm. This includes storytimes, ask on demand computer training, So you think you can Google, Family History, and after school activities and wii challenge.

At Flagstone, Logan Libraries Outreach Van will be running activities for teens and primary school-aged children between 10 am and 2 pm including: gaming, wii, all day craft table and workshops with Artist David Lovegrove. Kung Fu Panda Workshop at 10.30 am and Manga and Marvel Workshop at 11.30 am.

Logan North Library is celebrating Sci-fi and fantasy month throughout August. A large range of fun-filled activities are planned for all ages. Visitors can take part in sci-fi writing and drawing workshops, costume events and crafts. Foxtel’s Sci-fi Channel will be showing 24/7 and a different craft activity handout will be available each week. The month will culminate in a grand finale day on Saturday 27 August, when you can get your face painted, participate in games and competitions, buy some great sci-fi and fantasy books and meet seven authors.

Queensland Wartime Romances

Many who have lived through times of war have spoken of the passionate intensity they experienced when finding love amid the chaos and confusion. View Queensland wedding photographs from the WWI and WWII eras. The exhibition features reproductions of assorted documents, images and letters from the John Oxley Library’s Charles Rowland Williams Papers telling the tragic story of “Dambuster” Flying Officer Charles Rowland Williams and his love for fiance Gwendoline (Bobboe) Parfitt.

The PhotoVoice Project - Life as it is with Asperger’s

This is the culmination of the work of 16 adults and children who have Asperger’s or who are the parents of children with Asperger’s. Over a period of six weeks they took photographs and wrote accompanying stories to describe their Life as it is With Asperger’s. The project is a collaboration between Dr Pamela Seaton and Associates and PhotoVoice Australia and has been supported by the Toowoomba Regional Council Community Cultural Arts Support Fund.

Logan Art Gallery celebrates the diverse practices of visual artists, craft workers and designers and presents a dynamic exhibition program for residents and visitors to the region. Exhibitions feature touring exhibitions, local artists, visiting artists and works from the Logan Art Collection.

An extensive range of free public programs is offered and includes guided tours, practical workshops, special events, and artist talks. A dedicated Young People’s Gallery showcases exhibitions by schools from the region and provides fun, interactive activities for younger visitors.

Logan Art Gallery also promotes locally created contemporary gifts and collectables that are available from the gallery store.

Cultural Services Statement

Cultural Services offers advocacy and support to the arts community of Logan and works closely with the Museum and Gallery sector in guiding the development of the region’s arts, heritage and historical facilities and collections. As well as delivering the annual Regional Arts Development Fund program and assisting council in delivering its Public Art program, Cultural Services undertakes community engagement

and partners Logan's Libraries, various education institutions, arts organisations and government agencies to progress initiatives for the region. Cultural Services administers key policies that govern the development and delivery of the Arts and Culture in Logan including the Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy.

Chrys Zantis: Motherboard’s OlympusMotherboard’s Olympus explores the metaphoric meaning and functions of computer hardware in today’s contemporary society and draws comparison to the role of ‘mother’ in the home. Chrys Zantis juxtaposes traditional handcrafted materials and techniques with domestic tools and household items creating intriguing and curious contemporary artwork. This exhibition has been supported by Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Logan City Council partnership to support local arts and culture.

Rivermount CollegeSenior students from Rivermount College will showcase a delightful collection of vibrant works in the Young Peoples Gallery.

Braidy Hughes: She Carries Her Soul in the Threads of Her HairThe stylised colourful works of youthful Woodridge artist Braidy Hughes incorporate painting, stencilling and collage to form emotional and contemplative narratives of melancholy, love, self discovery, self loathing and escape.

Artwaves 2011: Logan and Adjacent Areas Secondary Schools Art ExhibitionThe nineteenth annual extravaganza of work from High Schools in the Logan region presenting creative works by the best young artists of the future. Artwaves is non-competitive and aims to demonstrate that students from Logan City and surrounding areas have a wealth of talent, imagination and creative skills.

Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Showcase 2011 Logan Art Gallery will host the annual RADF Showcase and information session on

Saturday 20 August at 2 pm.

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Logan City Council partnership to support local arts and culture.

Since RADF began in Logan, Arts Queensland and the Logan City Council have assisted many arts and cultural practitioners and organisations to develop knowledge, skills and practice in all facets of the arts.

The Logan community has grown as a result of these varied and exciting projects.

Join us to hear more about the inspiring projects that have been undertaken by local arts and cultural practitioners

in Logan, including writers, musicians, singers and performers, as well as visual artists and sculptors.

The RADF Showcase is an ideal opportunity to meet other visual and performing artists and musicians, learn about the range of local projects that have successfully used RADF funding in the past, and gain advice on applying for a grant.

The RADF fund provides opportunities for professional and emerging artists and arts

organisations based in Logan to develop their careers through project based funding in the

categories of:

Fun art workshops

Come along and join us at Logan Art Gallery for some fun practical art workshops.

Logan Art Gallery provides free floor talks and practical workshops which complement the gallery’s exhibition program all year round.

Schools, community groups, young people and adults are invited to join us at the gallery for some fun educational activities in the art workshop space.

Preschool workshops are conducted at least twice monthly.

Young children are invited to have some fun and learn through a range of exciting art educational activities.
