The SAP HANA lifecycle manager (HLM) provides a convenient and user-friendly user interface with which you

can customize and maintain your SAP HANA system. The SAP HANA lifecycle manager is accessible either from

the SAP HANA studio or via a standalone web browser.



SPS 07 achievements:

• Usability and performance improvements (System overview page, additional warning and error handling)

• Support of SAP HANA system internal network communication configuration for distributed systems / multi-host systems

• Enhanced Web browser support (Safari on Win XP and Win 7)

• Improved handling of deployment and activation of SAP HANA application content delivered with SAP HANA SPS 07

(Selectively deployment)

• Support of SAP HANA system renaming for configurations with <installation path>/<SID> as mount point for shared

executable and configuration files

Location for updating the SAP HANA system:

Before performing the update, the local package directories should be prepared to

ensure that the packages are found by the update tool.

1. Create a local directory for the downloaded packages. Example: /hana/local/downloads

2. Download SAP HANA packages from the SAP Service Marketplace to the local

directory.

3. Create a directory, in to which the package contents can be unpacked. Example: /hana/local/downloads/install

4. Unpack the archive in to the local directory.

5. Change to the directory where the hdblcm tool is located. For manual update: cd /hana/local/downloads/install

From DVD: cd <DVD root directory>/DATA_UNITS/HDB_LCM_LINUX_X86_64/

6. Locate the SAP_HANA_DATABASE directory in the unpacked archive or on the

DVD, and run the hdblcm update tool.

hdblcm(gui): installation and update methods

The installation and update of an SAP HANA system can be carried out using the following three methods:

• Interactive

• From the command line (hdblcm)

• From the graphical user interface (hdblcmgui)

• Command line option mode

• Using configuration file


hdblcm(gui): installation (interactive scenario)


hdblcm(gui): update (interactive scenario)


hdblcm: help usage

Syntax

The help parameter, called with the hdblcm tool alone, produces a general inline help text. By using the help parameter

in combination with other task-based parameters, an extended task-specific help is displayed:

• General help: -h or --help

• Installation help: --action=install –h

• Update help: --action=update –h

• Uninstallation help (called from the <Installation path/hdblcm> of the SAP HANA system): --uninstall –h

Example The following example displays information about the parameters available for installation: ./hdblcm -–action=install -h

Displays the inline help information for specified actions.


hdblcm(gui): troubleshooting

Troubleshooting should be referred to if the installation fails for an unknown reason, or for work-

arounds in special circumstances.

• Checking the log files

• /var/tmp (for hdblcm(gui), hdbinst and hdbupd)

• Clean up a partially installed SAP HANA system

• Run component uninstaller (hdbuninst) for each component individually

• Then start the installation over again using hdblcm(gui)

• Enabling trace for further analysis

• If the installer crashes or loops, it may make sense to trace the activities which causes the problem.

Switch on the trace by setting the environment variable: HDB_INSTALLER_TRACE_FILE to <tracefilename>

• If everything fails

• Primary component: BC-DB-HDB-INS for SAP HANA platform lifecycle management




Old SAP HANA installer

• SAP HANA unified installer will be declared as deprecated but supported for SPS 07

• With SPS 08 the SAP HANA unified installer will be unsupported

SAP HANA studio and client installation

• Until SAP HANA SPS 06 the installation of the SAP HANA studio and client was performed as administrator (Windows) or

root user (Linux). As of SAP HANA SPS 07 the installation of the SAP HANA studio and client can also be performed

without administration rights or being a root user.

The installation certification exam SAP Certified Technology Specialist (Edition 2013) – SAP HANA Installation

(Booking code: E_HANAINS131) is in line with our SAP HANA tailored data center integration program and

enables you to perform the SAP HANA installation by yourself.

Some facts about the installation certification exam (E_HANAINS131):

• Prerequisites: certification is only issued to candidates that have also passed the certification exam for the SAP Certified

Technology Associate – SAP HANA (Booking code: C_HANATEC_1 or C_HANATEC131)

• Duration: 90 Minutes

• No. of Questions: 40

• We strongly recommend to attend the completely revised HA200 classroom training to pass the exam
