Agenda and Objectives

Agenda

• Notable Platform Features• New Features in Revit Structure• Analytical Enhancements• Undocumented Features, Quirks and Frustrations

Objectives

• Overview on slides• Demo in the program• Discussion, impressions and ideas

Page 3: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Notable Platform Features

Dimensions• Diameter dimension type with diameter symbol• Split dimension chains• Equality formula

Page 4: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Notable Platform Features

View Templates• Discipline filter drop down • Associate view templates • Underlay options • Sort project browser based on view templates• View template changes push through to the dependent

views • Views that are dependent on view templates are "locked

down"

Page 5: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Notable Platform Features

Material Properties• New interface and dialog• Thermal properties• Additional structural properties

Page 6: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Notable Platform Features

Miscellaneous• Ghosted Surfaces no longer available• Transparent now a percentage slider override • Project browser is now searchable• View references can now reference any view and be placed

in any view (but not a schedule, and not on a sheet)

Structural Elements

Component-Based Stairs• Run, landing, and support components can be modified with

direct manipulation• More stair layout options and overlapping stairs capabilities• Stringers can have a profile• New subcategories for visibility control

Structural Elements

Parts• Merge, exclude and restore parts• Divide parts with gap offset and custom profiles• Support linked model object splitting and manipulation• Parts support more model categories

Structural Elements

Assemblies• Assembly views can be placed on

regular sheets• Add or remove elements from

assemblies• Origin is visible and editable in the

edit mode• Swap out assemblies• The origin determines the default

orientation of assembly views - the origin can be rotated to suit

Structural Elements

Grids• Multi-segmented• Potential problems in elevations and section views• Grid elbows can never be straight again if grid is multi-

segmented

Page 11: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Structural Elements

Reinforcement• Area and Path reinforcement host structural rebar families• Snap to the inside edge of fillets and hooks instead of

snapping to the cover and overlapping bars• Additional structural units now available• 2D/3D check box

Page 12: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Structural Elements

Reinforcement• Welded wire mesh with the "fabric" tool• Similar to Area Reinforcement• Different fabric type sheets• Sheet alignment and splice position

Analytical Enhancements

Analytical Model• Direct manipulation of slab edges• Direct manipulation of openings

Page 14: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Analytical Enhancements

Analytical Links• “Rigid links” now “Analytical Links”• Completely independent from other elements• Automatically placed but can be manipulated, turned off,

etc.• Links can be created within analytical adjust, between two

nodes only

Page 15: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

Analytical Enhancements

Autodesk 360 Structural Analysis• Send analytical runs to the cloud• Simultaneously perform static analyses and model in Revit• Nonfictions when analysis is complete• Analysis results can be viewed within Revit• Enhancements in interoperability with Robot Structural

Analysis

Undocumented Features, Quirks and Frustrations

• Grid head elbows, view references and material property frustrations

• Cannot temporarily hide categories in views that are dependent on view templates

• View templates provide more control and continuity/uniformity, but also fewer quick visibility changes

• Materials have been renamed

Page 17: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

• 3D orbit pivot point "gets stuck" on last element that was selected

• "Override graphics in view: by category" prompts a dialogue box instead of visibility graphics

• Can now have multiple floor plan types and can sort plan views via type similarly to other views

Undocumented Features, Quirks and Frustrations

Page 18: What’s New in Revit Structure 2013 Desirée P. Mackey Martin/Martin, Inc

• "Application menu: New" prompts the user for a template instead of automatically using the default template - includes up to five template options instead of having to browse to a template

• In the recent files view, the same five templates can be listed below the "New…" and "Open…" options

• Double clicking an elements opens family editor
