"An NSRI rescue team commenced a technical body recovery operation requiring a floating stretcher (timing waves that reached the height of the ceiling of the cave) to be swum into the cave where the body of the female was loaded onto the floating stretcher and swum (floated) out of the cave where, assisted by our sea rescue craft Discovery Rescue Runner and Airlink Rescuer, the body of the female was loaded onto our sea rescue craft Ian Hepburn and brought to our sea rescue base in Plettenberg Bay where the body of the female was handed into the care of the SA Police Services and the Forensic Pathology Services. Female falls to her Death – Natures Valley Ray Farnham, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said: "At 16h05 (01/04/2011) NSRI Plettenberg Bay volunteers were activated following reports of a female fallen from rocks at "The Gully" on the Eastern side of Natures Valley, 11 nautical miles East of Plettenberg Bay. "Our NSRI Plettenberg Bay volunteers launched 3 sea rescue craft Ian Hepburn, Air Link Rescuer and our Discovery Rescue Runner and a Mountain Club Search and Rescue team, Metro EMS, the Metro EMS Red Cross AMS helicopter, the SA Police Services, Medlife Paramedics, a private Robertson 44 helicopter and a mobile NSRI volunteer response team were activated. "On arrival on-scene NSRI rescue swimmers were deployed into the surf to commence a swim and free dive search of a gully after it was confirmed that a 20 year old female had fallen from rocks into the surf into a gully (a rocky cove). NSRI rescuers also traversed the cliff side to search along the barely accessible cliff face. "Following an extensive search the body of the female was discovered deep into a cave, in the surf, in a gully, into the side of the cliffs below a rocky cliff

aim of the project is to keep the environment clean while at the same time alleviating poverty. The food for waste project launch was embraced by the presence of the Executive Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, Bitou Municipality Officials, Department of Public Works Officials, IDT Officials and the beneficiaries of the project. Giving the background of the project, Mr. Madoda Mfene from the Department of Public Works said the project was adopted from Brazil in 2007 whereby people clean their areas and are rewarded with food. He continued to say they piloted the project in Limpopo at 3 municipalities, in KZN and the Eastern Cape and that 30 municipalities in the country are benefitting from the project. Mr. Mfene emphasised that the project is meant to ensure that there is food on the tables of the beneficiaries. According to Mr. Mfene the project is succesful in terms of service delivery as each beneficiary has a 1 year contract. This was echoed by Dr. Mpumie Gumede from the Independent Development Trust who said it is the commitment of IDT to ensure that beneficiaries keep their environment clean and be rewarded for their efforts. She also acknowledged the commitment of Bitou Municipality towards better service delivery for the community. Dr. Gumede urged food for waste project beneficiaries to work very hard in order to ensure that the strategic goals of the project are realized at the utmost. She said she is hoping that their 100 current beneficiaries will start their recycle businesses in the near future. Dr. Gumede said the IDT's aim is to get young people to be the next beneficiaries of food for waste project. The executive Mayor, Mr. Alderman Lulama Mvimbi applauded the fact that Bitou Municipality is among the 30 municipalities who are benefitting from food for waste project. He promised not to disappoint the Department of Public Works as they will ensure that Food For Waste Project in Bitou is sustainable. The

Executive Mayor also acknowledged their important partner, IDT for being involved in a lot of projects at the Bitou Municipality. He urged the beneficiaries to see this project as a blessing and never to take it for granted. Mr. Mvimbi kindly requested the beneficiaries not to stay in the project forever but rather give other community members a chance. In conclusion, he promised the people that as long as the government brings programmes to Bitou Municipality, they will ensure that they bring those programmes to the people to ensure better service delivery for all. The Concillors and the IDT Officials handed over food to 100 beneficiaries. This was indeed a succesful launch as all the beneficiaries were rewarded according to their work well-done. Dunes Resort host Harley Davidsons Jenny Damons reports It was first Dunes Park, now a very smart and fabulous resort. From very early on Friday 25th March 2011 a very tame group of bikes drove into the parking area of this resort. Group by group or partners by partners, they booked in. On Saturday morning people were still booking in not to miss this spectacular event. The HD Garden Route Club hosted the 2 Passes Rally. The whole weekend included a lot of fun and entertainment, the highlight being the escorted ride through the Passes. The bikers also observed their 60 minutes of earth hour. They switched off all the electricity at the Resort. At the end of Earth hour the bikes formed a sixty with their bikes with their lights on. That was magnificent. Pure pleasure! Some bikers came all the way from the Cape Peninsula. Most of them had a hard drive. The manager of the resort Mr Pieter Engelbrecht was very excited, it was a first for the resort. Everytime was so impressed with the bikes and many photographs were taken. Most of the bikes are the price of a house in town, the HD garden route club will definitely come this way again said mr John win fill the

Snippets for the Week We continue to spay daily in Kwanokuthula. I just cannot believe how many dogs there are that have no owners. While collecting spays on Monday, we were asked to remove at least 18 dogs in a very small area. Even when stopping at the intersection on the N2, someone came to the bakkie and asked that we remove dogs from his home. It is heartbreaking to euthanize these animals and some days I am just not able to take them in. We have four adorable puppies at the shop. Three are Retriever cross and one is a little Fox Terrier type cross. We also have four grey kittens needing homes. Please help me to save their little lives! It is vital to continue to sterilize. This way we can prevent the tragedies of to-day and look forward to a future with fewer, wanted animals. This is our ultimate goal. Thank you to one and all who supports our project. Simunye Centre open doors for local artists Gone are the days whereby the artists will blame the insufficiencies of platform or action for the poor standard of their performance as the center had bring back the STEX days which was an initiative by Cula Lok’shin long time ago, what was labeled as the best on artists development, also played a big role on taking kids away from the streets and bring them together to be safe at the center. Last week Friday was the beginning of the STEX as it was postponed on its normal day which is Thursday due to rain. As it was the first day the attendance from the public was not that good but for the first event was not that bad as well known artists from Kwanokuthula had shown up. The stage was opened by the master of flow Ngu-king performing a hip-hop love song called Ndiyamthanda. Featuring Sekshin there is also strong possibilities that it will feature in Sekshin’s anticipated album called Kwaito Royal Blood to be released very soon, followed by the top dog of Plett hip-hop MC-YA the GPREZ boy, some people I feel like they are playing with God given talent. MC-YA given opportunity which he will also need to be responsible for it, he can rule the S.A. hip-hop as I rate him in level of likes Pro kid and like it or not through my opinion no one can

compete with him in Eastern Cape and Western Cape. Also in the line up there was Mzu many people might not know him in hip-hop but he was there when Bon Playaz started this game in 1997 with the late Teddy and Carl (May their spirits rest in peace). He was the part of the artists who formed Cula Lok’shin, it was good to see him back on stage. I hope he is back in the game serious and full time now. When the desalination plant was being constructed I took particular interest in the development and at one time spoke to an engineer and asked him why they were putting exctraction wells in the Piesang Valley lagoon. I was informed that initially they were to go on the south side of Beacon Isle's parking, on the beach. However, they had found solid rock and were unable to penetrate. Tests were then done - as we all remember seeing the water gushing out - and they apparently found perfectly clean salt water at a depth of 8 metres in the lagoon - so this was decided the best extraction point. Now we are informed that because the Piesang River has stopped flowing they cannot extract water from it. This sounds a very strange story as they are not extracting fresh water, only deep clean sea water, so why now stop pumping? If this is the case, instead of going to all the expense of a desalination plant, they could have just pumped directly out of their extraction pipes and into our reservoirs. It seems to me a very strange story. Is it the case of a monumen-tal blunder in the design of this system? If so, why did our municipality not investigate it further or did they just get some "consultants" to advise them what to do? All modern ships have desalination plants to supply them clean drinking water. What the hell went wrong with ours? Can I please request some accept-able answers as a ratepayer. Confused Resident. This year the event will be hosted on Tuesday, 19 April from 10 – 12.00 for senior citizens and 19 – 21.00 for the rest of the community . It will be at the Angling Club, Knysna beautifully situated next to the lagoon. For added security, guards will be on duty during the evening’s session. This event has gained popularity as it is so much fun. It works like this: you bring your own double knitting wool and no.4 knitting needles cast on 30 stitches and knit like crazy for 1 hour. You may use any stitch or pattern to compete in the different categories. There are lovely prizes to be won,
