Server install

Server administration

Domino and DB2 on Microsoft Windows systems and IBM AIX systems.

Domino 7 with DB2 is released with Limited Availability, as such, it is not available for general usage.

For more information about the Limited Availability program and other important information about this topic, see the URL http://www.ibm.com/lotus/nsfdb2.

IBM Lotus Domino can be configured to run with DB2 databases as well as Notes databases. You can access and view data stored in Notes databases as well as data that is stored in DB2 databases. When working with your data, there is no visible difference between the data stored in a Notes database and data stored in a DB2 database.

Domain monitoring

New Feature Description For more information

New Domino Domain Monitoring (DDM) feature

Domino Domain Monitoring (DDM) provides one location in the Domino Administrator client that you can use to view the overall status of multiple servers across one or more domain(s), and then use the information provided by DDM to quickly resolve problems. DDM uses configurable probes to gather information across multiple servers. DDM then consolidates and reports that information on specially-designated collection servers in a Notes output database (DDM.NSF).

Server monitoring

New Feature Description For more information

The Run Program notification method now provides the option to pass event parameters.

The Run Program notification method also provides the option to pass event parameters. You can specify which parameters to pass when the program runs. Optionally, you can specify switches for the parameters. You must have full remote console access in the Server document to issue LOAD commands.

New event handler notification method sends a console command to the server.

Sends a console command, or commands, to the server according to the Event Handler that was configured. You can specify the server console commands to be run. Any console command can be used with an event handler. You can also use this option to run a console script.

New event handler notification method sends a Java Controller command.

Sends Java server controller commands based on an event. The commands that can be sent to the controller are restart Domino, start Domino, and shutdown Domino. You specify the server and the Java controller command. Your username (short name) and Internet password are used by the event task to access the Java controller.

Server monitoring tasks

Shutdown Monitor This task ensures that Domino terminates when requested to do so, that is, the server does not hang while attempting to shut down.

Process Monitor This task monitors the processes that should be running as part of the Domino server environment.

Fault Analyzer task Fault Analyzer is a server add-in task that processes all new crashes as they are delivered to the Automatic Data Collection mail-in database.

Note This task works with Domino's diagnostic data collection tool.

Writing status bar history to a log file

You can enable logging of status bar messages to the local log file, LOG.NSF, or to an external file that you designate.

User administration

New Feature Description For more information

Open Mail File button accessible from an open Person document and from the People view of the Domino Administrator.

Use the new Open Mail File button to open the selected user's mail file.

New client installation options and examples using transform files

Customizing client installations has been expanded to include information on using transform files during scriptable setups and also includes new examples of how to use transform files.

Multiple Notes client users can use the same directory at the same time.

Multiple Notes client users can log on and use the same data directory at the same time. Domino creates an autosave database with a unique name for each user to make the data directory available to multiple users.

Directories

New Feature Description For more information

Alias dereferencing You can control the extent to which alias dereferencing occurs when searching a remote LDAP directory.

Domino UNID The Domino 7 LDAP Service supports Universal Notes IDs (UNID) through 32-character values of the dominoUNID operational attribute, which allows advanced LDAP applications to uniquely identify documents in the Domino Directory even when the directory object's FullName/ListName (LDAP DN), ShortName (LDAP uid), or other normally identifying field values change.

Change detection Domino 7 can detect if entries in certain LDAP directories have changed, allowing Domino subsystems to flush stale search results and conduct another search for current LDAP information. Domino 7 also takes advantage of LDAP servers that support certain change detection mechanisms.

Policies

New Feature Description For more information

Documentation now contains information about using policies to assign NOTES.INI settings to Notes client users or to Location documents.

You can use a desktop policy settings document to add or set NOTES.INI variables for Notes client users. This is an easy way to assign NOTES.INI variables to all Notes client users, or to a specific subset of Notes client users, at one time. You can also use desktop policy settings documents to set field values in Location documents for users.

New mail policy settings document

Mail policies provide a mechanism for setting and enforcing client settings/preferences for Mail and C&S. Mail policies can be used to manage and distribute message disclaimers, in particular, to push the correct disclaimer for a given mail user down to the client.

Instant messaging setup within the Notes application plug-in can be done using the desktop policy settings document.

Use the Domino policies feature to designate how instant messaging services, within the Notes application plug-in, are provided to your users. The Notes application plug-in for the IBM Workplace Client Technology, rich edition, lets Notes users work with Notes applications in the Workplace rich client just as they would in the Notes 7 client.

New client policy lock down feature

Use policy lock-down to specify which policy settings can be modified by end users. The lock-down feature provides a central location from which you can set and lock down user settings. Client policy lock-down is especially useful for implementing company procedures and increasing security.

Messaging

New feature Description For more information

New private whitelists feature Use Domino's private whitelist filters to specify exceptions to blacklist filters, that is, to specify the hosts and/or domains to exclude from blacklist processing. Hosts that are specified in private whitelists are exempt from blacklist checks. Whitelisted hosts bypass blacklist filter checks but there are other controls which may prevent the message from being accepted. Members of the private whitelist are still subjected to connection, relay, sender, and recipient controls.

New private blacklist feature Use private blacklists to specify hosts and/or domains responsible for sending unnecessary, unwanted mail to your Internet domain. For consistency, Domino's private blacklists follow the model currently used by existing anit-spam functionality.

New DNS whitelist feature Use DNS whitelist filters as a means to help identify legitimate email.

New stop processing action available for mail server rules

The stop processing action stops the processing of all rules that follow the rule containing the stop processing action. You can use the stop processing action alone, that is, as the only action in a mail rule, or you can use it with another action in a rule, and it can also be in one rule that is in a series of rules.

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) supported in Domino 7.0, beta 2

IPV6 is designed to replace IPV4. IPV6 fixes a number of problems that exist in IPV4, primarily the shortage of IPV4 addresses.

Security

New Feature Description For more information

128-bit encryption Domino 7 supports larger Notes document encryption key sizes than in previous versions, and users have the option of using a stronger key to encrypt them.

User name mapping in the SSO LTPA token

Domino administrators can now map the user name that appears in a Domino-created LTPA token to the name expected by WebSphere, to ensure that the name is recognized in a mixed Domino and WebSphere environment where Domino and WebSphere do not share the same directory.

Custom password policies Information protection and data privacy laws include specific requirements for the selection of secure passwords for identity verification. The new feature enables administrators to enforce password requirements that will fit almost any set of corporate or government security requirements.

User and server key rollover Key rollover is the process used to update the set of Notes public and private keys that is stored in user and server ID files. Triggers for key rollover can be configured in policies and in the Server document (for the server ID).

Upgrade

New Feature Description For more information

Smart Upgrade kit recognition Smart Upgrade can determine whether to install a Notes client only kit or All clients kit for each particular user.

Smart Upgrade server cluster failover to another server

Smart Upgrade server failover is available with clustered servers. When the Notes client user logs on, the user's home server's Configuration Settings document is checked to access the link to the Smart Upgrade database. If the server containing the Smart Upgrade database is not available, Smart Upgrade searches, by database replica ID and database name, for a replica server within the cluster and tries to open the database on a replica server. If it locates and opens the database, that Smart Upgrade database on that replica server is used.

Smart Upgrade failover from Shared drive path kit to Attachment kit.

The Smart Upgrade process checks whether a "Full Path Kit" is available. If the Full Path Kit is available, it is used; if it is not available, the attachment kit is used.

New Smart Upgrade fields added to the desktop policy settings document.

The desktop policy settings document now has a Smart Upgrade tab that contains the Smart Upgrade settings. Fields are now available to enforce Smart Upgrade Tracking.

Smart Upgrade Tracking reports The Smart Upgrade Tracking Reports database is a repository for storing Smart Upgrade Tracking Reports that contain detail information about the status of the attempts to run Smart Upgrade on Notes clients in your domain.

Server commands

DB2 server commands Domino server console commands for use with Domino and DB2 provide you with information about your Domino and DB2 configuration.

Show Schedule - DDM The argument, -DDM, has been added to the Show Schedule server command. Show Schedule -DDM shows the Domino Domain Monitoring (DDM) probes that are scheduled to run.

Sucache refresh Forces a dynamic reloading of the Smart Upgrade configuration information, displays the state of the Domino server's Smart Upgrade cache information, and displays Smart Upgrade statistics gathered when the Domino server was restarted.

Sucache show Displays the current state of the Domino server's Smart Upgrade cache as well as some statistics gathered since the Domino server was restarted.

Administration Process Requests

New Request Description For more information

Modify DB2 Access Connection Administration request generated when you choose "Edit DB2 Access Connection" from the Tools panel in the Domino Administrator client.

Set DB2 password in server's ID file

Administration request generated when you choose the Set Server's DB2 ID menu item to modify the password and user name that the Domino server uses to communicate with the DB2 server.

Store DB2 information in Server document

Administration request generated when you enable a Domino server to communicate with a DB2 server.

Certify new person key request Administration request generated when you modify the key-related fields on the Notes Certificate tab of the user's Person document. This request can also be generated by the user initiating the Create New Public Keys action and choosing Authentication Protocol on the User Security panel in the Notes client.

The SetReplID command sets the replica ID based on date and time.

New Workload Data Collection script

While a workload runs, the Workload Data Collection script, shstat.scr, collects the data that is generated by the workload. This is a custom script.

New Workload Data Rollup Feature

The Workload Data Rollup feature is adapted from the NotesBench data rollup feature and allows test data from a group of test drivers and a SUT to be combined into a single datafile for analysis. When a workload is complete, the Workload Data Rollup script rolls up the performance data that was collected by the Workload Data Collection script.

Domino Web Access

Domino Web Access Redirect Domino Web Access users can access their mail files using Domino Web Access Redirect. With Domino Web Access Redirect, users do not need to know the name of their mail file and mail server, they need only know the name of the Domino Web Access Redirect server.

Mail usage indicator Domino Web Access provides a mail file usage indicator so that users can view what percentage of their mail database is in use. You enable this feature when registering users.

Monitor DWA users You can monitor the number of active Domino Web Access users on a system and log Domino Web Access request information.

Browser Cache Management Use Browser Cache Management to improve client performance and security of Domino Web Access sessions on Internet Explorer. Control which entries are stored in the cache and which are removed when the Domino Web Access session ends.
