CHPS-4.0.1

• CHPS-4.0.1 is coming– OHD and RFC beta testing is complete

• Special Thanks to MARFC, MBRFC, LMRFC, WGRFC, SERFC, and CNRFC– “Final” package with HSD for final phase of testing (installation)– CHPS-4.0.1 Package should be made available by HSD very soon– Details in Release Notes

• For normal CHPS operations, CHPS software is STABLE– Especially For non-FEWS Components

• Very FEWS FogBugz since last release of CHPS• Beta testing had very few issues• Changes, if any, are in add-on functionality

What’s New in CHPS-4.0.1• OHD-CORE-CHPS (3.2.a)

– FogBugz cases– Initial Release of Calibration Features– Graphics Generator Updates– Documentation on the web http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hrl/general/indexdoc.htm

• HEC-RAS (HEC-RAS-4.1.0_1.0.6)– FogBugz fix

• HEC-RESSIM (HEC-ResSim v3.1RC4)– No Changes– CN and MB using, anyone else?

OHD-CORE-CHPS: FogBugz Cases

• FogBugz 984: TATUM incorrect if LAYER COEFFICIENTS of form #.00

• FogBugz 1045: GraphGen does not add a .xml extension

• FogBugz 1144: Make Lower Zone Deficit Ratio (LZDEFR) variable available as an output SAC-SMA timeseries

OHD-CORE-CHPS: Calibration

• Initial Goal is to reproduce mcp3 and icp capabilities– Not addressing Calibration preprocessors (MAP, MAT, TAPLOT, PXPP, IDMA) or

postprocessor (OPT3)– Includes feedback from calibration team (ABRFC, APRFC, CBRFC, CNRFC, NWRFC)

• CHPS Calibration– Uses a mix of “OHD-CORE-CHPS” and “FEWS” features

• CHPS calibrations are done in a Stand Alone (SA) and configurations should NOT be uploaded to the live system (OC) (except for calibrated module parameters file)

• More Details at upcoming webinar (early December)

OHD-CORE-CHPS: Calibration(Workflows)

• Uses existing operational workflows (i.e. Preprocessing_Updatestates and the UpdateStates General Adapter modules)

• Add new calibration modules to workflows for WATERBAL, STATQME, Report STATQME, and PEAKFLOW

Page 8: What’s New in CHPS-4.0.1 (non FEWS related changes) 11/14/2013

OHD-CORE-CHPS: Calibration(STAT-QME)

• Used the FEWS Open API/custom transformation concept to code several calibration Stat-QME calculations which are not easily configurable

- Add OHD transformation configuration files . ModuleConfigFiles/calibration/xxxxx/STATQME_WGCM8_Calibration_StatEquations.xml . CoefficientSetFiles/Area_Coefficients.xml

OHD-CORE-CHPS: Calibration(HTML Report)

• The ICP statistical summary, a text based report in tabular format used to review all statistical information in a single window, is reproduced in CHPS as a FEWS report generated using an HTML template; this is referred to as the HTML report

- The Configuration directory holds the files that are required for creating the HTML reports

• The CHPS Percolation Analysis Function is limited compared to the original ICP– The lower zone deficiency ratio (LZDEFR) time series is needed by the

Percolation Analysis for Calibration.

– The LZDEFR variable will be an additional output time series for the SAC-SMA model in CHPS

– The last time interval value of each day is selected to create a time series of daily LZDEFR value to use in the Percolation Analysis

• Products and settings are now stored on the file system– Previously stored in the localDataStore– Dependency on CHPS/FEWS led to bugs

• FogBugz 1110: Product XML was being truncated when saved as a data set via the FEWS PI-service

• FogBugz 1048: Uploaded products and settings were not getting synched to the back-end PI-service

– Move to file system removes this dependency

• Graphics Generator chart viewing panel has been enhanced– Impacts the GraphGen Editor Panel and GraphGen Viewer Panel– Changes are a byproduct of HEFS software work– Changes primarily impact the data table and its interaction with the chart

• Data table bugs fixed• Mark Panel indicates rows and columns that contain data within the current chart

viewed area (i.e., when zoomed, marks indicate visible data)• Clicking on cells in the data table highlights point in the chart

– Additional changes/fixes have been made for HEFS and will be delivered in a future release

• Instructions and trouble-shooting for thresholds is provided in the Graphics Generator Reference Manual and Graphics Generator AHPS Product Installation Guide– General instructions related to thresholds are provided in Section 12.2.8 of the Graphics Generator

Reference Manual http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hrl/general/chps/Utilities/Graphics_Generator_Reference_Manual.pdf– Instructions related to the AHPS product are in Section 2.1.3 and 6.2 of the Graphics Generator AHPS

product Installation Guide http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hrl/general/chps/Utilities/Graphics_Generator_AHPS_Products_Installation_Guide.pdf

• Though explained in context of the AHPS products, these are generally applicable in cases where the ThresholdValueSets.xml configuration file specifies thresholds to display

• Additions to the Graphics Generator Tips and Troubleshooting Guide http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hrl/general/chps/Utilities/Graphics_Generator_Tips_and_Troubleshooting.pdf

– Instructions related to using module instance sets and locations sets in the PI-service configuration files are provided in Section 2.1

– General tips to make configuring the FEWS PI-service and Graphics Generator easier are provided in Section 2.8

– Instructions for generating HS ensembles and displaying them in Graphics Generator are provided in Section 2.9

HEC-RAS: FogBugz Fix

• Fogbugz case 623 – Not able to complete 60 yr ESP HS run using HEC-RAS (NCRFC)

– RMA (HEC-RAS contractor) made some general performance improvements that now allow for 40 year runs on a 64 bit machine (e.g. CHPS3-nhdr)

What’s Next (continued)– Outstanding FogBugz enhancements (possible, needs to be prioritized – Future Release)

• 1148: output ET demand and actual ET from SAC-SMA

• 443: SSARRESV limitations

• HEC-RESSIM (Nothing planned)

• HEC-RAS (Nothing Immediate)– The only plans for RAS are that when RAS V4.2 gets officially released by HEC (we don't

know when), we will have to see (via HSD and Regions) whether it is high enough priority to update the RAS adapter for that new version. That's not automatic - it depends on priority against other CHPS enhancement requests

What’s Next• Other Efforts

– HLRDHM through FEWS (prototype project)• In response to FogBugz 1010 (OHRFC) - Updated HLRDHM FEWS Adapter to be compatible with latest

version of CHPS• Detailed Configuration Guide• Will be made available as a separate package in early December

– To be used on dev/test or SA– Support and maintenance is currently outside of CHPS (Zhengtao Cui)

• Something to be considered for future versions of baseline CHPS

• Training– Calibration in CHPS Training (Early December): GO-TO led by Deltares

• 1.5 – 3 hour webinar (Demos and Presentations)• Use FogBugz to enter “requests” (fixe, clarification, enhancement)• Possibly followed up several weeks later with a technical conference call

– Graphics Generator (by June 2014)• Identified as a “High” Priority• Teresa Murphy at NWSTC working with OHD and RFC representatives on training modules
