Today’s Program… Hall of Honor Installations HALL OF HONOR, Past President Lynne Lande, ceremony chair. “Humanitarians in Detail” is to-day’s headline for our most recent inductees; it’s our most prestigious member tribute. Gordon Beeman, Jerry Brown, and George Gilligan share service as past presidents: a 20-plus-year Kiwanis membership (10 years in our club), and attending a minimum of 80% of our meetings. Most notewor-thy—exemplary club leadership and service...
Imagine 1. A nearly century-old organization, Michigan’s largest Kiwanis club, and employ-ing nine people without a Personnel Manual or an Investment Policy Statement? Thank you, major contributor, Past President Gordon Beeman;
Imagine 2. A career leader in every major club project from SA Bell Ringing to Sale Co-chair to Herding Cats (the club past presidents) to sporting the club’s consistently, brightest smile? Thank you, Past President Jerry Brown; and
Imagine 3. Bringing sound-thinking and finan-cial expertise to the board and the club, and overseeing the club golf outing and rolling service strikes on our K-Bowling teams? Thank you, Past President George Gilligan!
Presenters Larry French (Gordon and Anna Bee-man), Clarence Dukes (Jerry and Lyn Brown) and Cliff Sheldon (George and Mary Gilligan), all past presidents, introduced spouses and families and highlighted the outside-the-club, outstanding aca-demic, and community service honors earned by each recipient. Congratulations!

Happy Dollars… Past President Lynne Lande was especially happy to hear Past President Dave Drake
on-the-air on Michigan Radio talking about his participation with grandchildren in tow with Meals on Wheels on Thanksgiving Day (click here for link to article). The two past presidents hugged! Log on!
News flash: Past Michigan District Governor, club member Bob Snider recounted his health recovery due to modern medicine that has improved his listening, hearing and seeing ability two and four fold! Wow!
Old editor enjoyed the Perfect Storm at his son’s trombone teacher’s abode on Thanks-giving (Jon Holftreter & Susan Hamady) and was reminded of his son’s prowess which dad had forgotten.
Tuesday, January 2, 2018 meeting, at Kiwanis West, is not downtown as implied. The flyer with said information sent the creator to bed without his warm milk and cookies! He suffered withdrawal but survived!

NEW-MEMBER SPEECH—Larry Dittmar… For over 40 years, Larry served the whims of countless international summer performers at the Interlochen Arts Academy that included an idiosyncratic band who insisted on a specific flavor of jellybean in their dress-ing room! A friendly, Life Achievement Awardee, and former high school band and orchestra head in the AA Public Schools, he engaged the top Interlochen prize in meeting his wonderful wife, Prudy. Larry’s work on the international stage in developing musicians in Kenya is renowned. “Larry, in our club, you’re always music to our ears. Keep practicing those trombone low notes.” We have one in the Leslie fold so told to.
Transition to KCW Weekly News/Updates... The sale on the Black Friday/Saturday weekend yielded about $8,000. Smaller than the record sales the previous week by about $3,000 but still a good considering offerings at other retail stores. The number of customers in the store on Saturday was down about 30% from the previous week. We attribute the reduced number of customers to the home UM football game and the weekend sales going on with most every retail merchant in town. Be thinking about your availability for sale volunteering after the first of the year. We will be working on that very soon. ~Bob Gray

CENTENNIAL MEMORY GEM Club Hall of Honor When?
Wesley B. McKenzie (left), Executive Director of the Washtenaw Coun-ty Red Cross, joined the club in 1980 and pro-posed a club Hall of Honor to be patterned after a similar Red Cross program. Back then, be-ing elected a club board member and/or officer was the sole formal club
member recognition. There was some reluc-tance to change protocol (heard that one be-fore?) but Wes was placed in charge of a com-mittee to research a Hall of Honor and the charter installation occurred in 1985.
