Image and LightingWhen looking at the image a lighting of the poster it is one

which is rather strange, I say this because it is two completelyseparate images laid on top of one another. Through this it is

clear to see that Johnny Depp is not only the main man in the

film but also that he seems to be separated from society

because of all that he has to deal with and all that he has to

    look after.

The fact that Johnny Depp is at the top of the postersuggests that he is almost god like and how he looks after

the others, however the fact that it is hazed at the bottom

suggests that he is not all good and almighty.

The use of the long road, suggests that the family are

segregated from society and they are not accepted by anyone

due to the issues that the family cause, even though they are

    un intentional.

The lighting on the bottom of the picture is a lot brighter than

the lighting on the top of the picture, this suggests that Johnny

Depp or Gilbert has some sort of mixed nature and a man of

    a few lies.

The use of the girl on the rusty bike suggests the social statusof the family and how they are not like everyone else.

Camera Distance In terms of the camera distance, it varies from the top of the poster

and the bottom of the poster.

Here at the top of the poster the character of Johnny Depp is a lot

closer to the camera than the other character. This serves to

highlight that he is the main character. It also allows the audience to

analyse his facial expression and in a way see if they can

understand and have a rough insight into the character before they

    see the film.

The fact that he is side on and not facing the camera suggests that

he has something to hide and he is not willing to face the truth and

    explain his wrong doings.

When it comes to the bottom part of the poster it is different.

Here the character that Juliette Lewis plays, is placed quite

far away in terms of camera distance and a lot further than

Gilbert is. This suggests that she does not play an as

    important part.

The fact that she is placed along the long empty road

suggests that although she might be quite a big part in the film

(yet not as big as Gilberts) her part may not affect the story

    line greatly.

The fact that she is further away from the camera suggests

that she also has more freedom than Gilbert and not as manypeople rely on her.

Text and AnchorageWhen looking at the text and the anchorage of the poster it is rather

    strange.

The use of the lower case for the first names of the actors suggests that

they are not that important and what the film is about and what the poster

is trying to show you from the film is more important.

The fact that the two actors highlighted are Johnny Depp and Juliette

Lewis, suggests a strangeness to the poster as the film is mainly about

Leonardo Di Caprios character, this almost diverts the audience away

    from that and onto others.

The name of the film is layered on top of the bottom part and image of the

poster, this is strange because the main actor of Gilbert is actually on the

    top half of the poster.

The text and typography throughout the poster are not consistent, all of

the different parts of text and anchorages are different, this highlights the

film and the fact that there is not only one problem in the themes of the

film but that there are many different individual problems throughout the

    film.

The use of living in Endora, is like dancing to no music highlights once

again the separation of the family to society.

    Colour Palette and Layout

In terms of the colour palette the colours vary throughout the

    poster.

Gilbert is surrounded by a blue sky background suggesting he

nature, the fact that he is very hard to read and he leaves no

marks for people to look into and analyse.

However the colour palette then changes to browns, yellows

and greens, suggesting a more pure nature to the poster andthe film and highlighting the key themes in the film, that the

issues raised in it are very natural and pure and are not

covered up or being hidden from anyone or anything.

The layout of the poster is different from conventional layouts, I

say this because the title of the film is placed to the right and it

is not completely obvious, this suggests that the name of the

film is not that important but instead, it is the images and the

poster a whole that the creators want you to focus on, becauseit is through them that the audience are able to get a feel of the

film and what its themes are and what it is all about.

The poster as a whole comes across as natural and unspoiled,

almost suggestive of the mind of the character played by

    Leonardo Di Caprio.
