Curing Compounds vs.Curing and SealingCompounds vs. SealingCompounds

Curing compounds (cures) are liquid membrane-forming com-pounds that, when applied to freshconcrete, reduce moisture loss inthe early hardening period. A curingcompound helps retain moisture inthe concrete, resulting in improvedhydration of the concrete. Thisimproved hydration produces astronger, denser concrete substratewhen compared to improperly oruncured concrete. The curing com-pound is considered a temporarycoating, which will eventually breakdown and dissipate from exposureto UV light, traffic, etc.

A curing and sealing compound(cures and seals) cures as outlinedabove, but also forms a film thatoffers continued protection andimproved aesthetic qualities, suchas shine and a glossy, wet look, to the concrete. Curing and sealingcompounds are designed to be usedon fresh concrete to cure, and thenwill also remain on the concrete to offer the additional benefits of a sealer, such as improved appear-ance and improved resistance tochemicals, water, de-icing salts, etc.

A sealing compound (sealers) are designed to be applied after theconcrete has cured, providing thesealing properties that are outlinedabove.
