William Loud settled in Melbourne in 1874 and
commenced a contracting business specialising
in excavation work for city buildings.
He extended his activities to all forms of
earthworks and pavements, including the
construction of many of the roadways in the
cities of Melbourne and South Melbourne. His
activities involved cable tram tracks and the
construction of the Ascot Racecourse opposite
the Melbourne Showgrounds.
Over time the business grew to include civil
construction such as school playgrounds,
carparks and asphalt tennis courts. Sports
surfaces were added to the portfolio just before
the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, when the
Olympic Park track was constructed, together
with tracks at Royal Park, the Olympic Village
and a warm-up track outside the Melbourne
Cricket Ground. The association with sport
continued with the concrete terracing of five
VFL grounds and numerous multi-purpose
projects at schools throughout Melbourne.
Tennis became a focus for the business when
the Plexipave/Plexicushion synthetic surfacing
system was introduced into Victoria in 1972.
This has grown to become the most popular
acrylic hardcourt system in Australia with the
Plexicushion Prestige system being chosen as
the new surface for the Australian Open Tennis
tournament in 2008.
As Wm Loud expand into new and exciting
areas we continually evaluate new products and
techniques to test suitability for Australian
climatic conditions. We offer complete design
facilities through our highly qualified and
experienced engineers, advice and assistance in
the construction of your project and full back up
and maintenance once the job is completed.

Plexipave Netball has been designed and
developed specifically to suit the unique
requirements of netball. It provides greater
traction in both wet and dry conditions, has an
anti-glare finish for enhanced visibility and is
suitable for both indoor & outdoor locations.
The addition of a Plexicushion underlay further
enhances player comfort by reducing body
impact and muscle fatigue often felt in
legs, ankles and feet.
Like Plexipave Tennis, the Plexipave Netball
playing surface is up to 5˚–7˚C cooler than
asphalt or concrete playing surfaces.
Plexipave is an acrylic multi-layer coating that
is suitable for both indoor and outdoor tennis
locations. Each layer contributes to the overall
effect of the product and the finishing layer
produces a surface ideally suited to tennis
with less ball and shoe wear.
Plexipave also has a cooler surface, up to
5˚–7˚C lower, in comparison to asphalt or
concrete playing surfaces.
Not only reacting to bounce and spin
accurately, the speed of the surface can be
adjusted according to court requirements.
Plexipave is now the premier choice for
tournament installations around the world.

In 1953 the worlds first completely
acrylic surfacing system was
introduced by the California Product
Corporation. Australian Plexipave was
established in 1971 as the
Australasian affiliate and since then
has surfaced in excess of 13,000
tennis and netball courts across
Australia and New Zealand.
The Plexipave family of products are
100% acrylic/latex surfaces finished
with intense hardwearing colour.
They are ideal for tennis courts, netball courts,
athletic tracks, multipurpose sports areas and
light traffic pathways. The Plexipave colour
finish system offers a large range of special and
standard colours that are all-weather durable,
quick drying and provide superior resistance to
deterioration.
The comprehensive range of environmentally
friendly products has seen the surfacing system
become the choice of tournament installations
around the world with Plexipave dominating
markets in the USA, UK, Sweden and Australia.

Plexipave walkways
Plexipave Velodromes were introduced in
1977 with the surfacing of the Packer Park
Velodrome in Caulfield (Melbourne).
Since that time we have surfaced and
resurfaced many tracks throughout Victoria
including Ararat, Bendigo, and Wangaratta.
The Plexipave system with its rounded sand is
an ideal surface for cyclists. The surface
provides the maximum amount of grip whilst
not affecting the speed of the bike. This
allows cyclists to achieve consistently superior
track times.
Like all Plexipave surfaces it provides
optimum performance and easy maintenance.
The Plexipave system is the logical surface for
locations that are required to service a variety of
sports, both indoors and outdoors. Ideal for tennis,
netball, basketball, volleyball, downball and a long
list of other activities. The Plexipave system can be
line marked in a variety of colours to identify
specific game areas and thesurface provides traction
in both wet and dry conditions.
Plexipave’s unique formulation is designed to resist
bumps & knocks and its long lasting colours ensure
surfaces maintain attractiveness for many years.
Plexipave Acrylotex is the perfect solution for
decorative walkways or public areas.
In 1999 Wm. Loud was approached to supply
an attractive and hardwearing coating suitable
for the extreme pedestrian traffic associated
with the 2000 Sydney Olympic games. Our
Acrylotex system was the surface chosen and
is still performing over 10 years later.
Suitable for asphalt or concrete surfaces,
the final product is seamless with superior
traction, and economically maintained with
water and mild detergents.
Available in a full range of colours, attractive
and hard wearing Acrylotex is the surface
installed on pedestrian walkways at the
Sydney International Airport terminal and at
the main entrance to Disneyland at Anaheim
in the United States!

POLYFLEX Softfall was developed by a world
leader in surfacing systems and was
introduced to Australia in 1989. Since then
Wm Loud has been a leader in the use of
Polyflex Softfall for the construction of
playground safety systems.
POLYFLEX Softfall playground surfacing is
seamless and jointless and consists of a
unique single component polyurethane resin
binder which is combined with rubber shred
to form a highly shock absorbent base layer.
Add to this a 15mm (minimum) surface layer
of EPDM or fibre rubber bound together with
the same single component polyurethane
resin binder for safe, clean, low-maintenance
playground surfaces.
The POLYFLEX system can be installed directly
over existing asphalt or concrete areas
normally with little or no prior treatment to
the existing surface. It can be installed around
existing play equipment and awkwardly
shaped surfaces. The EPDM or fibre rubber
which forms the surface of the system is
extremely hardwearing and has very good UV
resistance.
Softfall is suitable for use in all climatic
conditions and due to its porous nature allows
playground equipment to be used
immediately after even the heaviest rainfall.
The system surface will not breakdown, blow
or wash away, decompose or hold puddles.
Softfall can be installed to any required depth
allowing users to design for the fall height
requirements for surfacing under specific
items of play equipment.
POLYFLEX softfall comes in a variety of colours
offering the chance to individually personalise
your playground to suit a theme or
surroundings. Corporate or school logos,
coloured games zones or eye catching
patterns can enhance the appeal of your play
areas along with the proven maintenance and
safety factors.
Polyflex systems are also suitable for poolside
surrounds, designated games areas, walkways
and bike tracks. In fact, almost anywhere a
safe, quiet, clean, moisture permeable, slip-
free surface is required.
SAFETY STANDARD:
POLYFLEX softfall meets the requirements of
both Australia and New Zealand standards for
safety surfacing AS/NZ 4422:1996
