Foods Supply Hosts—Always in Demand

One reason the Foods team has such success serving our Guests is due in large part to the Hosts responsible for supplying the many items sold in our food stands located in Festivals, The Village/Country Fair, Craftsman’s Valley and Showstreet areas. Before the first Guest steps foot in the Park, 120 cases of bottled drinks, 300 gallons of Coca-Cola syrup for drink fountains, 930 bags of cotton candy, 1,800 gallons of Dippin’ Dots, approximately 2,000 pounds of ice, many cases of cups, mugs, napkins, and other essentials are distributed—just to get the stands open for business. Before Park opening, the hardworking supply Hosts have completed a full day’s work—but it’s only the beginning. Maintaining the booths’ stock throughout the day requires the additional distribution of more than 250 cases of bottled drinks, 500 gallons of Coca-Cola syrup, 1,500 bags of cotton candy, and more than 20,000 pounds of ice. Thanks to supply Hosts Ty Hodge, Stephen Peaks, Alex Vest, Donald Blair, Jaighen Wilson, Dylan Palmer, Joe Calio, Daniel Lamon, Justin Baker, Andrew Brown, Bo Simcox and Lance Clemens, our Park’s food stands run smoothly and are always equipped to meet the needs of our Guests.

Foods Supply Host Daniel Lamon keeps the drinks iced down so Guests can enjoy a cold drink on hot summer days.

Concessions Host Andrew Thompson welcomes Guests at our new fresh fruit cart/stand located between Showstreet Snacks and Showstreet Bakery is open. Offerings include apples, oranges, bananas, and watermelon slices as well as mixed fruit cups with grapes, honeydew, cantaloupe, and fresh pineapple slices, all perfectly refreshing on a Great American Summer day!

Humana’s dream is to help people achieve lifelong well-being. We want Dollywood Hosts to live happily and enjoy good health, so we offer these health tips. For more healthy living tips, go to humana.com/resources/healthy_living/wellness_tips.

Nuts: A very sane way to lower your cholesterolThe studies about how good nuts are for us just keep piling up. And it’s not just because nuts pack a lot of good nutrition into

a small shell. According to the Mayo Clinic, most scientists agree that nuts offer a number of things that are not only good for our bodies, but also our hearts.Note: when we talk about healthy nuts, we’re talking about the raw, unsalted kind. Salted, honey-roasted or otherwise gussied-up nuts? You’re better off saying “no” to those. It seems the best nuts for general health and nutrition are walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews, with the Mayo Clinic listing walnuts, almonds, and hazelnuts as the best for our hearts. Here are more details:Walnuts — High levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, the same kinds that are in fish like tuna and salmon, help lower triglycerides, which are a kind of fat we build up in our bloodstreams. The Mayo Clinic says Omega-3 acids seem to help keep our hearts from falling into unhealthy rhythms that lead to heart attacks.Almonds — Besides being high in protein, almonds are high in antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, and vitamin E. One 2002 study showed that “bad” LDL cholesterol went down 4 percent in people who ate a handful of almonds a day, and dropped more than 9 percent in people who ate two handfuls a day.Brazil nuts — Not long ago, a University of Illinois study showed that Brazil nuts may help prevent breast cancer. They’re also a great source of a “super antioxidant” called selenium, which has been shown to help protect our bodies’ healthy cells from attacks by cells that open the door to heart disease and other kinds of cancer.Cashews — Iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium: all these important things are found in the cashew nut.
