Presence: Two Visions of Landscape - Ros Auld & Claire Primrose27 May - 2 JulyTwo artists come together to explore an authentic connection to the natural world. Ros Auld aims to express both the strength and fragility of nature using materials from the earth, with an interplay between the monumental forms and delicate surface textures in her ceramic works. With landscape as her source, she is interested in the accumulation of recollected impressions rather than particular sites. Claire Primrose’s recent work is similarly inspired and informed by many different locations from the Australian landscape. Using soil and water samples from field trips, she recreates the surfaces, textures and colours of particular places, although each work is a culmination of many different images, places and experiences.Form & Surface: Peter WilsonUntil 21 MayIn this latest exhibition by Peter Wilson, the results of the artist’s continuous explorations with ceramic forms and materials will be evident.Wilson’s practice is underpinned by experimentation and a continuous refinement of form and ceramic surfaces. He values utility and traditional craft skills whereby due consideration is given to the balance, weight, proportion and the feel of the object in the hand. An Orange Regional Gallery exhibition.

There is something about cows that we all love, and through close observation we can see their character and comedic ways showing through. When painting these subjects, Tricia likes to use her customary palette of black and white to graphically capture the many types of cattle, and composition is also very important for highlighting their curiosity and inquisitive natures.

ARTS OUTWEST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGSunday 28 May, 11.30am

Our AGM road trips are legendary. Join the bus or meet us in PARKES on Sunday May 28 for catch ups, seeing the cultural sights and a free lunch!

This is not your average Annual General Meeting. We go to a different council area each year – an excuse to show off the arts and cultural successes and plans of that place. And an excuse to catch up, network and enjoy a nice lunch together. All welcome!

This year in Parkes we’ll be starting with a tour and talk at the Parkes Library, viewing of current exhibition, plus a tour and performance at the Little Theatre. Lunch at the Hart Bar will be followed by the AGM, including pictorial recap of 2016 and an update on constitutional changes, then a street art tour and museum visit. All welcome! The only boring admin bit: For the purposes of voting only, your financial membership will need to be up-to-date. NOTE: Membership is not compulsory, EVERYONE is welcome at the AGM and day out.

Join the bus trip: For those in the east of the region who don’t want to drive (or who just love a boisterous game of eye-spy) we’re taking a mini bus. Collecting in Bathurst and Orange. FREE. Aiming for departure from Bathurst around 9am, returning around 5pm. Limited places so book early. Please RSVP or 6338 4657 or [email protected].

Taking young audiences on an amazing undersea journey, Sensorium Theatre’s Oddysea is a multi-sensory performance specifically designed for audiences with special needs.

Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) will be bringing Sensorium to the region in June, and will engage with students and teachers from Carenne (Bathurst) and Holman Place (Cowra). The cast will introduce the students to the characters and conduct professional development sessions with teachers in the days leading up to the performances. At the end of the week there will be two performances for the general public and people with disabilities of all ages are welcome to attend.

Hailing from Western Australia, Sensorium Theatre is at the forefront of inclusive performance in Australia, providing all children access to enriching artistic experiences.

“Too often performances are designed for mainstream kids and sometimes a session gets adapted for children with special needs. We turned that on its head and created a show specifically for children with disabilities,” Italiano said.

Set in a beautiful oceanic installation, the story unfolds around each audience member, using song, touch, smell and taste.

Starting on the seashore, Oddysea follows the adventures of Crab and Turtle as they dive deep beneath the sea, meeting a cast of colourful characters in this story of fun and friendship.
