LET THE 2017 GOLF SEASON BEGIN!
A nother golf season begins at Twin Lakes! It’s always exciting for us in early spring
when we see the golf course green up more and more ever day. And, boy, did it ever
green up early this year! Soon we will be celebrating the start of the season with
Men’s Opening Day, April 22, and Ladies’ Opening Day, April 25. Please check out the
schedule on our website or on the back page of this newsletter.
Please be advised of the dress code in effect after Men’s Opening Day. Proper attire is
listed on the back
page.
This is the first of
seven newsletters
during the season.
Please check our
website after the first
of each month,
April—October, when
the new one will be
posted.
As you can see, Twin
Lakes has already
taken in a number of
new members this
year. When you see a
new face, take a mo-
ment to introduce
yourself and welcome
them to Twin Lakes.
We hope to see you
and good weather here
soon!
Don’t forget to check
the website for course
conditions. If it says
cart paths only, you
know what that means!

From the Manager
A s April arrives, the golf season is slowly and awk-
wardly trying to get started. After a taste of great
weather in February that got all of us geared up for
an early spring, we reverted to a brief winter and have been on
hold ever since in a cool, wet cycle. The wet conditions of the
past few weeks have limited our ability to keep everything
mowed just as growth is ready to explode with the first warm
stretch. In spite of the awful
golf weather so far, the
course is starting out in great
condition. Turf density is
good in all areas. So when
things dry and regular mow-
ing occurs, playing condi-
tions are great.
Plans for the next few months include drainage projects on
holes 12 and 2, root pruning behind the 12th green, an earlier
than normal aerification of fairways to relieve some of the
compaction resulting from the lack of a good freeze in the past
two winters, (Freezing and thawing of the soil is nature’s aerifi-
cation.), and some tree stump removal.
All of our equipment is in great condition to begin the sea-
son. Ron Summitt, my assistant, does a great job of sharpening
and maintaining our fleet of equipment. He delivers a quality
of cut that is a cornerstone of turf health. Ron is starting his
seventh season and is critical to our success. Josh Blazier,
long-time crew foreman, also returns for his 14th season. He
brings tons of energy and years of experience to Twin Lakes.
Mike Mars is returning for his fourth season. He has greatly
improved our bunkers with his drainage work and obsession
with how they look and play. He, along with Ron and Josh, do
the bulk of the mowing along with all the other daily tasks.
As for me, this is my 33rd season at Twin Lakes and my
38th as a superintendent. I began working at a golf course in
1970 and still love to come to work each and every day.
Please help us take care of your course by repairing ball-
marks, replacing or filling divots, raking the bunkers and being
responsible with golf cars and carts.
DDDDIDIDIDID YOUYOUYOUYOU KNOWKNOWKNOWKNOW: The Brad-
ford Pear, which has bloomed beautifully for the last week, is an invasive plant. It is classified as an exotic invasive in almost all of the northeastern United States. Please find another flowering tree besides the pears.

H appy spring! As always, I hope this newsletter
reaches you in good health and spirits. Although it
has been a slow start to the season, warmer weather
shall prevail. Hopefully April will bring warm and dry
weather for us to enjoy.
Mark your calendar for the opening day events. Men’s
Opening Day is Saturday, April 22. It all starts with compli-
mentary continental breakfast and Bloody Marys before the 9
a.m. shotgun start. The format will be a scramble. This is a
fun event to start the season. Please make sure you sign up to
enjoy this great event. The Ladies’ Opening Day is Tuesday,
April 25. There will be a meeting and breakfast at 9:00 a.m.
followed by golf. This is a great way to meet other ladies and
to meet the golf staff. Please check out our website to view
all upcoming events for the year:
www.twinlakesgolfclub.com.
You will see some new staff members that have joined the
Twin Lakes family this year. Cliff Swallow started as our
new chef February 1 and has brought a lot of great culinary
ideas to the club. Also, we have a new assistant golf profes-
sional, Seth Powers who has brought youth and excitement.
Please welcome both Cliff and Seth when you have an oppor-
tunity.
This spring we will be doing cart path repair to hole #7 and
some other areas. This is part of our plan to resurface all the
cart paths. The maintenance staff has been cutting down ash
trees that have been effected from the Emerald Ash Borer.
They have also planted a dozen trees to make up for the
losses.
Please pass along the attractive 2017 membership program
to any potential members. It is essential for the club to have a
successful membership recruitment program this season. I
would like to welcome all the new members to Twin Lakes
and thank their sponsors. If you see a new member, please
welcome them to the club. I look forward to seeing you out
enjoying your club and for a great 2017 season!
