What’s happening @ Clearpoint IB World School: February 5 th 2021 February is Black History Month at Clearpoint IB World School! February marks the start of “Black History Month” and at Clearpoint, we have connected this important annual celebration of Black history, culture, social action, and education with the Learner Profile Attribute of “Caring” (see below for more about this!). We have invited students in grades 3 and up to submit a write-up on a prominent Black figure who has had a positive influence on the world and impacted change by taking action. So far we have received over 15 submissions! We will select some students to read about their special person over the intercom, sharing with their peers these acts of caring, kindness and bravery. Students should see their homeroom teachers if they are interested in participating. We also have some amazing guest speakers lined up for the students, so stay tuned!

Wearing Masks Helps Keep Everyone Safe! Thank you

to all of our parents for your help and cooperation to

keep everyone safe at Clearpoint. There have been

some changes to government guidelines regarding

mask use at school – please click here for this and

other new information from Santé Publique related to

    COVID-19

We continue to promote a culture of mask-wearing at

Clearpoint – we strongly recommend that all students wear

masks at all times inside the school. We also recommend

that masks be worn outside, if students cannot ensure that

they are able to remain at a safe distance from other

children. If possible, we encourage the use of procedural

(medical) masks which add extra protection. Again, we thank

you for your support for thesemeasures. Please let us know

if you have any questions or concerns.

  • The Latest News from our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP):

    Attribute of the Month!

An important component of the IB framework is that we strive daily, to help our students develop the ten ‘Attributes of a Learner Profile”, as we believe these are the attributes that will contribute to our students’ success at school and in life. To support this endeavor, this week we held our first (virtual) “Attribute Assembly” of the month, highlighting this month’s target attribute: Caring! Caring, from the lens of the IB perspective, is defined as; “We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment service and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others around us.” Our students from k4 to grade 6 have all been challenged to perform at least one act of caring this month and to track this act on the paper provided to them by their teachers. They should also indicate on this form, whether this action has a personal, local or global impact. All actions, big or small, create positive change and we are so excited to see what the students of Clearpoint are capable of! We would also love it if you helped continue this conservation at home by speaking about caring, empathy and compassion! We have even included a ‘Kindness Calendar’ and a hand-out from the IB website to help solidify this home/school connection see links below. Have a wonderful caring month everyone!

  • Units of Inquiry Cycle 1 just wrapped up their unit of inquiry on “Where we are in Place and Time” by exploring the evolution of toys! The students even had the opportunity to collaborate in small groups and create their own toys using items such as blocks, board game pieces, etc. already in the classroom. What a creative way to learn!

  • Morning Drop Off: Winter weather brings difficult

traffic conditions. We ask all parents to please be

extra careful during morning drop off times. Please

    remember these guidelines:

-The parking lot at Cedar Park United Church is only

for the use of parents who use daycare services

there. Clearpoint parents please do not use this

parking lot to drop off your children.

-When arriving along Lakeview Aveneue please do not make U-turns.

-Please stay to the right-hand edge of the parking lot when entering the school yard. Cutting

through the church parking lot is dangerous.

-We enourage you to use the kiss and drop areas for morning arrival:

1). In front of the daycare entrance

2). In the bus zone once buses have left

Mat Surfing! What could be better than running full speed and taking a dive on a big, wide, thick and (most importantly), soft over-sized gym mat? This week Miss Elena’s grade 6 group took advantage of some gym time to do just that. The gym mats that you see pictured here were purchased with the generous support of our Clearpoint Home & School Association.

Snow Hill at the front of the school We ask you to please not allow your children to slide or climb on the snow hill in front of the school.

Although tempting, traffic in the parking lot where drivers may not see

children makes this dangerous. Your cooperation with this is appreciated!
