1:30 – 2:15 Design a Restaurant
Have children work together to design a restaurant, We will invite parents to come at 3:45 pm to pick up kids on Friday and sample their restaurant
Have child decide their role in the restauranto Waiter/servero Hostesso Owner/Managero Chef/o Beverage Pourer
Restaurant should have:o Nameo Menu (have children decide three things they should cook
Appetizer (Let's do ham and cheese crescent roll ups) Entrée (We’ll do pizza) Dessert (Let’s do lava cakes)
We will continue to work on our restaurant throughout the week
2:15 – 2:30 Eat Snack – Top cupcakes with “cloud icing” aka Cool Whip
2:30 – 2:45 Naked Egg Experiment: We will check on it everyday
Here is a classic experiment with eggs. If you soak a raw egg in vinegar, over the course of time, the vinegar will dissolve the eggshell. What you’re left with is the egg’s translucent membrane to protect the egg. Since the shell is made up mostly of calcium carbonate -- it contains calcium carbonate (94%), magnesium carbonate (1%), calcium phosphate (1%), and 4% organic matter-- vinegar which contains acetic acid will dissolve the shell.
Procedure:
Place the egg in a tall glass or jar and cover the egg with vinegar. Wait a few minutes and look at the jar. You should see bubbles forming on the egg. Leave the egg in the vinegar for a full 24 hours in the refrigerator. After the 24 hours, carefully pour the old vinegar down the drain and cover the egg with fresh vinegar. Place the glass with the vinegar and egg back in the refrigerator for a full week. One week later pour off the vinegar and very carefully rinse the egg with water. The egg looks translucent because the outside shell is gone. Notice that some of the vinegar has permeated through the egg's membrane and caused the egg to get a little bigger.
2:45 – 2:50 Soda Egg Experiment
Take a tall glass Pour soda in it
Drop egg gently into cup. Ask kids to make a hypothesis? What do they think will happen?
2:50 – 3:15 Egg Painting (hard boiled eggs that they will paint and take home Tuesday)
3:15 – 3:45 (or until they’re done) Have kids make draw/paint/create an invitation on a piece of white paper inviting parents to come to their restaurant on Friday at 3:30 pm.
Invite should include: Restaurant name they decided on earlier Child’s Name Creativity!
3:45 – 4:00 SODA EGG RESULTS & HOW MUCH SUGAR IS IN A CAN OF SODA?
Remove egg from glass. Ask kids what happened to egg? Why is it brown? How do we clean it? Give kids toothpaste and toothbrush and let them brush it clean in sink Discuss with kids the effects of soda on their teeth and the importance of
brushing their teeth
Ask kids how much sugar they think is a 16 oz can of COKE?
Answer: 11 teaspoons – HAVE KIDS MEASURE OUT 11 teaspoons of sugar so they see in “real” life how much it is.
4:00 Clean Up

o 1 cup heavy whipping cream into whipped cream makero 4 tablespoons powdered sugaro Have kids use pump gently to make cream.o Takes about 5 minutes of pumping.
Eat! Yum!
9:45 – 10:15 Science Experiment: Fan-Static The easiest way to learn about the magic of static electricity is to see it in action.
Feel the Force: First, rub your hair vigorously with an inflated balloon. Look in the mirror, what’s happened?
Pepper Pick Up: The balloon may look the same, but old the balloon just above a pinch of pepper. What happens?
Hair Raiser: Run the balloon against your hair again. Now hold it a little above your head. What happens to your hair?
Paper Chase: Turn a platic comb into a static magnet. Tear some tissue paper into small pieces. Comb your hair (just let one child do this experiment!!!) quickly and hold it close to the paper. What happens?
Test other combinations of materials to see how they will create static with the balloon

12:00 – 12:15 Making Ojo De Dios Designs
What you'll need:
String or yarn in several colors 2 Popsicle or craft sticks Glue Scissors
How to make it:
1. Glue the two craft sticks together in a cross.
2. Take one color of yarn and wrap it over and around one stick, then over and around the next, over and around the next, and so on. Keep doing that until the color is used up.
3. Tie a different color string onto the old one with a tight knot.
4. Repeat steps 2 + 3 until complete. 5. Take a piece of string for a hanger, cut it, and tie or glue it
to your God's Eye. Hang it up in your room to enjoy.
12:15 – 12:30 Food Science
CELERY ROOTS: The celery experiment is a good lesson in how plants get water into the very tips of their leaves.
Put 8-10 drops of red food coloring in water in a jar. Cut the end off the bottom of a celery stalk, leaving the leaves at the top, and place the celery in the jar of red water. In about 12 hours, you’ll be able to see the red water has been absorbed into the veins of the stalk and the leaves.
COLOR WHEEL: Color Wheel in a Bowl Watch how some materials mix together and some don’t.
Pour 1 cup milk into a bowl. Add three drops of red food coloring at the edge of the bowl at the “12 o’clock” position; add 3 drops of blue food coloring 1/3 of the way away at the “4 o’clock” position; and add 3 drops of yellow food coloring 1/3 of the way away at the “8 o’clock” position. Be careful not to move the bowl. Squeeze a drop of dish soap (such as Joy or Dawn) into the center of the bowl. Watch as the soap, which won’t mix with the milk, floats on top of the bowl and spreads across the surface. As it moves it grabs the food coloring. Where the colors meet they form new colors.
12:30 – 1:00 Continue work on restaurant
Make a menu for the restaurant Take a menu cover and let children create a menu that will be
displayed to the parents. o Pages needed:

10:15 – 10:30 Little Known Facts about food while lunch is cooking
Here’s a look at some of the most interesting things about the fast food industry you never knew of.
1. The world’s most unhealthiest burger can be found in Heart Attack Grill, Las Vegas. The Quadruple Bypass Burger has been certified by Guinness Book of Records to be the Most Calorific Burger, with a total of 9982 calories! The recommended daily intake for the average adult male is only 2500 calories.
2. According to Advertising Age, Ronald McDonald has the 2nd most powerful resonance in the marketplace.
3. In 1970, US$6 billion was spent on fast food. In 2006, it shot up to US$142 billion!
4. Properties of fast food like its high glycemic index and fatty acid composition may induce excess levels of insulin to circulate the blood and eventually cause diabetes. Almost 2 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in the year 2010 alone.
5. Prices of soft drinks are marked up by at least 1200%. In the UK, the syrup in a 75¢ cup of coke costs only 5¢.
6. A strawberry milkshake from a fast food restaurant contains at least 50 different kinds of chemicals. Phenethyl alcohol, one of them, is also used as a preservative for soaps and detergents.
7. Cup holders started appearing in car designs around the 90′s as the drive-thru became increasingly popular. As the cups grew wider, so did the cup holders
8. Nope, the highest selling fast food product is not the hamburger. It’s actually french fries. McDonald’s alone goes through 9 millionpounds of potatoes everyday.
9. The term hamburger originally derives from the city of Hamburg in Germany where many people emigrated to the US. Hamburger is a German noun that is used to refer to someone from Hamburg. Think Dubliner, Londoner or New Yorker. No effort guessing now where the word frankfurter or wiener originated from
10. Otto Kuase the cook invented the hamburger back in 1891 when he created a special beef patty and cooked it in some butter then topped it off with a nice fried egg.
11. The first ever fast food restaurant chain in the US is White Castle.
12. The world’s most expensive burger can be found in Fleur de Lys at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Created by Chef Hubert Keller, the $5000 Fleurburger 5000 is loaded with such items such as foie gras, black truffles, and a black truffle brioche bun.
13. Hundred dollar hamburger is a slang used by pilots needing an excuse to fly. A $100 hamburger trip involves flying a short distance, eating at an airport restaurant, and flying home.
14. Pizza originated from Naples, Italy where the Napoletanos used bread as a blank slate for relishes from Greece where bakers had been dressing their potteries with oils, herbs and cheese since 400BC. Romans refined the idea to develop placenta, a sheet of fine flour topped with cheese, honey and bay leaves. The Napoletanos earned the right to claim the pizza as their own invention when tomato was included in the recipe.
15. The Pizza Royale 007 is the most expensive pizza in the world costing a whopping 3000 Euros, created by Domenico Crolla. It is topped with edible gold, lobster marinated in the finest cognac and champagne-soaked caviar, Scottish smoked salmon and medallions of venison.
16. Pizza comes from the Latin word ‘pissa’ which means flatbread in 9th century. Actually, many languages around the Mediterranean has similar sounding words for flatbread like ‘pita’.
17. No one person is known to have invented fried chicken but the Scottish have been known to fry chicken long before most other places in the world
18. FDA laws allow for an average of 60 insect fragments per 100 grams of chocolate. WOW
