Copy speeds were fastest using the platen glass, and actually exceeded HP rated speed, but were slower using the automatic document feeder. Testing also showed faster ink-drying time for improved productivity. Image Quality - The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium produced very good, sharp text quality that was readable down to 4 pt. font size, good resolution, and good line control, and very good dot (pixel) control. We were especially impressed with color photographic quality (with borderless printing up to 8.5”x11”), with photos displaying very good (vibrant) color saturation, and very accurate and natural flesh tones, the latter of which is very important when considering any system with photo-printing capability. Ultimately, while not on the same level as much more expensive specialty photo printers with five or more ink colors, we found that color photographic quality will be more than acceptable for 95 percent of all color-photo printing applications. Image quality in copy mode was also very good, with good text quality down to even 4 pt. font size, and very good reproduction of our halftone test target. We did not observe any image anomalies such as mis-registration, poor fill, broken text, banding, etc. In our Water- and Highlighter Resistance Test, the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s color graphic and text output displayed absolutely no smearing when subjected to water and a highlighter pen. And, as noted, testing showed that ink drying time was significantly faster than with its predecessors, so that ink is less likely to smear if handled prematurely. Installation - Software and network installation was efficient and streamlined, and took just 21 minutes. Hardware set up was also fast at approximately 23 minutes and notably, the print head is conveniently pre-installed. We observed a minimal amount of packaging materials that had to be removed and disposed of, which makes setup fast, and is also eco-friendly. Ease of Use - The 2.65” color touch screen is easy to navigate and text is large and easy to read. Menus are very easy to decipher, and there is a helpful audible click and tactile feedback when the user presses a navigation/confirmation key, confirming that they’ve made a selection. Executive Summary What It Is During our hands-on testing of Hewlett-Packard’s Officejet 6600/6700 Premium e-All-in-Ones, we evaluated all aspects of performance, from installation and set-up, to image quality, productivity, and ease of use:

Tested Print Speed Both models generally met or exceeded HP’s advertised print and copy speeds in testing.

Hewlett-Packard Officejet 6600/6700 Premium e-All-in-Ones

“HP’s new Officejet e-All-in-Ones, the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium, are sure to please budget-minded users with their outstanding array of industry-leading features. Not only do users get a color touchscreen, color photo printing with crowd-pleasing quality, but three mobile-printing solutions, including HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint. There’s also Web Apps, and print from/scan to the cloud. Both models also include a newly designed inking system that is among the easiest to service in the industry.” - Terry Wirth, President, Wirth Consulting.

Imaging Technology: Thermal Color Ink-Jet Functions: Print/ Copy/ Scan/ Fax (all in color) Maximum Monthly Volume: 12,000 pages Recommended Monthly Volume: 200 - 800 pages Street Price: $129.00 /$149.00 Availability: Retail, www.HP.com, and channel partners. Introduction Date: March 2012

Hewlett-Packard’s Officejet 6600/6700 Premium e-All-in-Ones are full-color ink-jet All-in-Ones, and replace the Officejet 6500A and Officejet 6500A Plus respectively. Designed for small offices and workgroups (from one to five users), the units are the same except that the Officejet 6700 Premium ($149.00) has faster print speeds and adds a wired Ethernet network interface, automatic duplex printing, and USB host port. Both units provide wired Ethernet network connectivity and full-color capability in all modes, as

well as Web connectivity.

The touch screen also displays previews of scanned documents and photos downloaded from a USB memory drive (Officejet 6700 Premium), and provides a QWERTY-style keypad for entering text, which is always preferable to using an alphanumeric keypad. The touch screen provides animated clips demonstrating how to perform common tasks, such as loading paper, making maintenance very easy even for new users.

Client Software Ease of Use - During our tests, we noted that the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s software suite is

streamlined and less demanding on PC resources than its predecessors. Software, including print, scan, and fax drivers, is intuitive, non-intrusive and easy to use, and there is plenty of both off- and on-line guidance.

Administrative Management - Embedded Web Services (EWS), a printer Web page, provides easy configuration of scanning, fax, and system defaults, as well as detailed usage information. To minimize downtime, administrators can configure automatic e-mail alerts so that specified users are automatically alerted to conditions requiring attention, for instance, a paper jam or low ink.

Depending on their needs, administrators can also disable functions such as fax, color fax (so that received faxes aren’t printed in color), ePrint mobile printing, HP Apps, etc., as well as lock down the control panel and Embedded Web Services so that users can’t change device settings. They can also disable print from and scan to USB memory drives for the Officejet 6700 Premium, so that unauthorized users can’t print color photos and documents downloaded from memory drives.

Mobile Printing – Mobile printing has become increasingly sought after by users, and the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium support three mobile-printing options: HP ePrint; HP ePrint Home & Biz for Android, iOS and Symbian; and Apple AirPrint for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

HP Apps -We had no difficulty using and managing Apps, including adding or removing them at hpeprintcenter.com.

A key App is eStorarge. Users can print documents stored in Google Docs and Box.net accounts—such as patient instructions and forms, company directions, menus, etc.—directly from their Officejet’s touch screen without having to use a PC. Users only print the number of copies they need, eliminating waste, and they don’t have to store hardcopy documents that can become outdated. Using the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s scan capability, users can also scan hardcopy documents to their Google Docs and Box.net accounts.

Build Quality - We observed sturdy build quality and a smooth overall look and feel. The matte finish imparts a cleaner look, as dust and fingerprints are much less apparent than with a glossy finish.

Maintenance - Replacing the four separate ink cartridges couldn’t be easier—just lower the front door, press on the old cartridge to pop it out, and slide in the new cartridge. There’s also minimal packaging to remove from the eco-friendly ink cartridges (we had to remove just one length of plastic and one card when installing all four cartridges).

Loading media in the 250-sheet paper drawer is very easy, and the paper-width guides slide easy into place. The user just lowers the drawer’s front gate to load longer legal-size paper.

Reliability - During our evaluation, we did not observe any reliability, installation, or usage problems—no paper-curling or ink smudging was observed, installing ink cartridges was clean and easy, printed output was neatly stacked, functions worked correctly the first time, etc. During testing of the Officejet 6700 Premium, we did encounter several double- and triple feeds and one misfeed within the first 100 printed pages. A plus is the help and instructions for performing the maintenance that is occasionally required, with the touch screen providing easy-to-follow instructions as well as animated clips demonstrating how to perform these tasks.

Recommendation – What sets these two All-in-Ones apart from competitors are several strengths, including very good image quality not typically found in this segment (sub-$150 All-in-Ones), as the systems performed very well producing our image-quality test targets, and we were especially impressed by color photo output. Another advantage is easy setup and ease-of-use—again the units performed very well—hardware, software and network installation is straightforward and doesn’t require any special expertise, a touchscreen makes operation very easy, replacing ink cartridges is as easy as it gets, software is streamlined and works the first time, etc. All of this is key in this segment where there’s unlikely to be a dedicated IT staff on hand.

Similarly, the Officejet 6600/7600 stand out from competitors with a very economical cost per page of 3.2¢ (black)/9.0¢ (color) for this segment when using high-yield cartridges (recommended). Not only do many competitors have a much higher cost per page, especially when printing color output, but even many higher-priced color laser All-in-Ones have significantly higher color cost per page—up to 20¢ per page in some cases.

Overall, for a minimal investment, home-office users and very-small businesses and workgroups get access to a state-of-the-art feature set—full-color print, copy, scan, and fax, color touch screen, three mobile-printing solutions, print from/scan to the cloud—with the assurance of no-hassle setup and consumables replacement, very competent image quality, and without a hefty color cost per page. Consequently, Wirth Consulting considers these new All-in-Ones an excellent value proposition, and has no hesitation awarding the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium its highest rating, Outstanding.

IMAGE QUALITY TESTED IMAGE QUALITY In order to evaluate image quality, Wirth Consulting uses: 1. The highest image-quality settings. 2. ImageXpert™ Printer 600 dpi Target Version 5.1. 3. ImageXpert Test Target EP-PSv1. 4. Northlight Images UK Grayscale Linearization Test Chart. 5. Synthetic (photographic) test images derived from ISO Internal

Standard 12640 Graphic Technology (Prepress Digital-Data Exchange – CYMK Standard Color Image Data [CYMK/SCID]).

6. Hammermill 100/112+ Euro Bright, 28 lb. Color Copy Paper. 7. Hammermill 20-lb. Copy Plus with ColorLok technology.

NOTE: Image-quality samples contained in this report are raw TIFF, non-compressed photos that have been recorded using a high-end digital camera. They are intended to provide readers with our best approximation of image quality. However, all Wirth Consulting comments on image-quality are based on a visual examination of the actual printed image-quality samples themselves, not on the photographs.

Imaging Technology: Thermal ink-jet, full-color Ink Base (Black/Color): Pigment-based Max. Print Resolution Black: 600x1,200 dpi Max. Print Resolution Color: 4800x1200 dpi optimized

STRENGTHS Very good image quality in both print and copy

modes, and we were especially impressed with color photographic quality, especially for a product in this segment. The systems were also able to produce the black, cyan, magenta, and yellow halftone gradations in our test target very well. Black text was sharp and clear, with text readability down to 4 pt. font size. Output also displayed good resolution and fine-line reproduction, as well as very good dot (pixel) control. Photos displayed good detail, excellent color saturation, no banding, and very good, accurate flesh tones, with photos displaying a very pleasing appearance. Very good overall copy quality, with good text quality down to even 4 pt. font size. Color graphic and text output displayed absolutely no smearing when subjected to water and a highlighter pen. Faster ink drying time, which is especially important in duplex-printing mode. Significantly, faster ink drying time means ink is less likely to smear if handled prematurely. No image anomalies such as mis-registration, poor fill, broken text, banding, etc. were observed. No ink bleed-through or smearing was observed.

LIMITATIONS None.

PRINT-MODE IMAGE QUALITY SAMPLES (RAW TIFF DIGITAL PHOTOS)

Image-quality originals used by Wirth Consulting when evaluating a device’s image quality.

Raw TIFF photo of the test target printed on HP Bright White Paper (plain paper). Overall the photo has an attractive appearance, and colors are true—for instance, the musician’s dress is a burgundy shade, as it should be, and flesh tones are smooth and natural.

Raw TIFF photo of the test target printed on HP Advanced Photo Paper. While our plain-paper sample is good, colors are much more vibrant and vivid printed on HP glossy photo paper. Colors are very accurate, and flesh tones are excellent - very accurate, smooth and natural, especially when viewing the actual printed sample. Fine detail is very good, as for instance, on the left, fine strands of hair are visible.

When printing the test target that evaluates resolution, the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium were able to produce black horizontal and vertical lines (circled in red) as thin as 3 pt. size, which is typical of office-imaging printers and MFPs. They also produced cyan and magenta down to 3 pt. size, and yellow down to 4 pt. size, which is also typical

In the test target above, the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium were able to produce positive horizontal and vertical lines down to 1 pt., which is very good, and negative horizontal and vertical lines down to 2 pt., which is good. In the Dot (Pixel) Quality measurement, the systems performed very well: they produced approximately 90% of pixels correctly in the 2x2 positive and negative black pixel box; and 90% and 80% of pixels in the 1x1 black positive and negative pixel boxes respectively. They produced 80% of the pixels in the cyan and magenta pixel boxes, and 70% of pixels in the yellow pixel box.

The first row of the halftone chart shows the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s ability to produce grayscale images. The systems were able to perfectly produce all 10 shades correctly in distinct 10% steps, indicating that they will be able to produce grayscale images very well. Based on an examination of the actual printed output, the systems were also able to correctly produce the next three colors (yellow, magenta, and cyan) accurately in 10% steps, although there was some indistinct stepping in the 80% to 100% cyan range. The systems also produced the lower orange, green and blue halftone scales very well, although there was some indistinct stepping in the 80% to 100% green range.

The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium produced clear, readable negative and positive text down to 4 pt. font size—the smallest font size most office users will ever require. Overall, text was sharp and compared very well with text produced by other office-imaging printers and All-in-Ones tested by Wirth Consulting.

WATER- AND HIGHLIGHTER-RESISTANCE TEST Wirth Consulting conducted an ink water-resistance test by placing drops of distilled water on printed output via an eyedropper, and then waited 24 hours to view the results. Drops of distilled water were placed on the inner area where all four color blocks meet, and on black text in the center of the print reading “Duis.” We also performed a highlighter-resistance test, marking each of the printouts with a yellow Sanford highlighter pen as seen in the photographs of the printed output below.

Competitive Contemporary Ink-Jet Device

Ink bled in the areas where water was applied, both in the color area and the letter “D” in the black text. Note that the text highlighted with yellow has slightly smeared.

Officejet 6600/6700 Premium

There is minimal evidence that water was applied to the print. Also note that the colored boxes and the text highlighted with yellow have not smeared.

Legacy Ink-Jet Device

Ink bled in the areas where water was applied, both in the color area and in the black text. Note that the text highlighted with yellow has also smeared.

COPY-MODE IMAGE QUALITY

In the copy image-quality sample to the left taken in color Best mode, the systems were able to produce the halftone scale to the far left in increments of 10% to 100% well. Reproduction of text was very good, with distinct, readable text down to 4 pt. font size. The handwriting samples reproduced in different colors were also distinct and readable, and the Copier Test Pattern was also correctly reproduced. Although not quite as apparent in the photo sample to the left, but apparent in the actual printed copy itself, the systems were able to produce readable black text in the dark red box in the upper left—something we’ve observed some more expensive systems have not been able to do as well. In the line pairs per millimeter chart in the lower right, the system was able to clearly reproduce lines as fine as 5.0 to 5.6 lp/mm, which is very good.

HP APPS

Apps enable users to access and print Web content directly from the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s touch screen when the systems are connected to a network with Internet access. Users can select, download, and remove apps from their system at the hpeprintcenter.com Web site.

Select Apps on the right of the main touch screen. A sampling of business Apps enables users to print from the touch screen: Web content such as business and financial news and stories from the

Financial Times News, Manager Tools, RTT News, Portfolio.com, etc.; some content can be automatically scheduled for download and printing; Forms from Docstoc (forms for startups, employee reimbursement forms, job offer letter, etc.); Business forms from Biztree.com; HP Quick Forms (templates, calendars, graph paper, etc.).

There’s also consumer Web content, including news and stories from USA Today, Epicurious, etc.

STRENGTHS Apps are very easy to manage, add and remove—we found it easy to open an account at hpeprintcenter.com, and then remove or install Apps as needed. A broad range of Apps are provided, from business to personal use. The Google Docs and Box.net eStorage app provide print-on-demand capability from the touch screen without having to launch a Web browser and print driver at the PC.

LIMITATIONS None—Wirth Consulting had no difficulty

managing and using Apps—they’re simple to manage and use.

With the eStorage App, print your documents stored in online Google Docs and Box.net accounts directly from the touch screen. You can also scan documents for storage into your account. Free basic subscriptions are available for both Google docs (www.docs.google.com) and Box.net.

With the Biztree app, print a host of business forms—from job evaluations to contracts, legal contracts, forms, etc.—directly from the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s touch screen.

Upon initial setup of the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium, you’ll print the page above, which provides a code for signup. Enter this code at hpeprintcenter.com to add, remove, and preview apps, as well as manage ePrint (for instance change your system’s email address to something easier to remember, enable mobile printing for only certain users, etc.).

COPYHewlett-Packard rates both the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium at up to 10/7 ppm in laser-comparable mode, and copying is via a platen glass and simplex-only 35-sheet automatic document feeder.

STRENGTHS Tested copy-mode print speeds of up to 15.47 (black)/10.29 ppm using the

platen glass, exceeding Hewlett-Packard’s rated print speed of 10 (black)/7 ppm in normal mode. Copy-mode print speed was slower using the automatic document feeder. ID copy—copy both sides of a two-sided card onto one side of a page. Provides most frequently used copy features, including collate, image modes, reduction and enlargement (25-400%), reduction/enlargement ratios, fit to page, make up to 99 copies in a single operation, etc. Preview scanned originals on the color touch screen before producing copies, thus making sure you’ve used the correct settings and that the document’s been scanned correctly—ultimately reducing mistakes and wasted paper and ink.

LIMITATIONS For the Officejet 6700 Premium, copy speed using the automatic document feeder was somewhat slower than rated copy speed – up to 6.43 (black)/2.97 ppm using the automatic document feeder in testing. However, as noted above, copying was significantly faster when copying from the platen glass.

SCANNING

Pull scanning from a PC using the HP Scan Utility is accessed from Solution Center or the Windows’ Start menu. You can also use the scan-driver utility from any TWAIN- or WIA-compliant application. The shortcuts on the left enables users to convert and save scanned documents as Adobe PDFs, JPEGs, or, with the included OCR software, convert them into editable text documents. When you select E-mail options, your default e-mail client is automatically launched, with the scanned file attached to a new outgoing e-mail message.

Documents can be scanned and converted into the file formats shown above, including Searchable PDF format, which enables you to specify a keyword contained in the document so that you can more easily locate the document later. You can also convert the scanned file into editable text format using the included OCR software.

Collections of scan settings (300 dpi, color, JPEG file format, etc.) can be saved so that you don’t have to re-enter them again when scanning the same type of job. They appear as icons on the main HP Scan screen.

From the control panel, users can also push scans to PCs running the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium client software. With the Officejet 6700 Premium, users may also send push scans to memory drives inserted into the front-mounted USB 2.0 host port.

EMBEDDED WEB SERVER (EWS)

The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium incorporate an Embedded Web Server (EWS), which is accessed by entering the printer’s IP address in the address field of your Web browser. It indicates current device status and ink-cartridge levels, and enables administrators to set up and configure fax, scanning, network connectivity, and other functions. EWS can be password-protected and is only available to users within the business’s firewall. Security is configured via the Firewall Rules link for enabling individual or groups of computer workstations that can print to the device. Administrators can back-up settings, and configure automatic e-mail alerts so that specified users are automatically alerted to conditions requiring attention, such as depleted paper.

HARDWARE INSTALLATION

The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium’s open shipping carton. Included documentation has been placed on top of the unit for easy access. The systems each ship with HP 932 black ink cartridge; HP 933 cyan, magenta, and yellow ink cartridges; setup poster; Getting Started Guide; software CD; power brick; power cord; and 10’ fax phone cable.

Hardware Installation Time: Approximately 23 minutes

STRENGTHS Hardware setup of the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium was easy, and the touch screen guides the user through installing ink cartridges, paper drawer, setting up wireless connectivity, and loading paper. One person will easily be able to remove the system from its shipping carton, remove minimal packaging materials, and place it on a desk or table. Print head is pre-installed, so only four consumables (four ink cartridges) need to be installed. Very little packaging material must be removed for fast setup.

LIMITATIONS None. RECOMMENDATIONS For fax, users must utilize the included 10’ long HP

phone cable; although this information is mentioned in the Getting Started Guide, some users might miss it—a more prominent warning on the initial setup instructions (and/or a sticker on the unit) would be helpful.

Users must make sure not to connect the USB cable from the system to their PC until software is installed, or else their PC may become unresponsive. We recommend that, as with other Officejets, this warning is more prominently displayed—for instance, other units have this warning explicitly illustrated in the initial setup instructions, and there’s a sticker over the USB host port that warns users to first install the software before connecting the USB cable.

SOFTWARE AND NETWORK INSTALLATION The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium ship with a CD-ROM containing an automated installation utility.

The first step in the installation process is to select which software to install. We recommend installing HP Update, Help, and I.R.I.S. OCR software. Click on Next…

Software & Wireless Network Installation Time: 21 minutes Total Software/Network/Hardware Installation: 44 minutes

STRENGTHS Default software selection and wireless network installation was easy, and we only had to “click through” four screens to install the software. We had to click through another eight screens to complete the fax installation wizard, ePrint registration, and product registration. As we’ve found with other HP installation procedures, the provided guidance is straightforward and easy to follow, so that even novice users should have no difficulty installing software and connecting to a wired or wireless network, or directly via USB port. Installed utilities are non-resource-intensive, and only a few are required. The fewer utilities you need to install on a PC, the faster the installation and the less drain on PC resources. Very easy wired/wireless network installation can be performed during the installation process or via the touch screen. An Update IP address utility allows users to re-connect to the proper network address after drastic changes in network topology or an extended power outage.

LIMITATIONS None.

FAX SETUP WIZARD

After completing installation, you’ll be prompted to set up fax. We recommend setting up fax using the fax-setup wizard above rather than setting up fax at the touch screen, as it’s easier with the wizard. First enter your location, name or company name, and then your own fax number. Then specify whether your fax will be shared with a voice line. If your fax number will also be used for voice calls, you can enable distinctive ring, so that incoming fax calls will sound different than incoming voice calls.

USER MAINTENANCE

Press the Ink icon on the main touch screen to see current ink levels (left), and installed ink and available ink cartridges (right). Detailed ink level information is also available at the PC via Solution Center.

Adding media is easy. Open the paper tray’s cover (it stays open and also serves as the 75-sheet paper output tray), and simply slide in media and adjust the geared side guides if necessary. Media-orientation indicators are prominently embossed into the surface of the drawer.

STRENGTHS Replacing Imaging Supplies – Replacing the four separate ink cartridges couldn’t be easier. Ink cartridges are very easy to access, and the slots where they’re housed are clearly labeled, minimizing users installing the wrong ink cartridge in a slot. Replenishing Media – Loading media is straightforward, as is adjusting the paper drawer’s width guide and extending it to accommodate longer legal-size paper. Removing Misfeeds – We found that accessing misfeed-removal areas was straightforward and easy. The touch screen provides animated clips for performing common maintenance tasks such as replacing ink cartridges.

REPLENISHING MEDIA

Slide the geared side paper width guides all the way out if necessary, slide in the paper, adjust the sliding guide to fit the paper width, and then close the cover.

Flip down this gate to accommodate legal-size (8.5”x14”) paper.

REPLACING INK CARTRIDGES

Make sure the system is turned on, and then lower the front door. The ink cartridges will be located in the center, and within easy reach.

Push on the ink cartridge until you hear a click. A spring-loaded assembly locks the cartridge into place and automatically ejects it when pressed a second time.

The cartridges slide into and out of their respective slots.

The slots where the cartridges are housed are color-coded for each color ink. Note that there is an additional space to the far right that accommodates the installation of a black high-yield HP 933XL ink cartridge.

The Officejet 6600 doesn’t have a duplex unit; however, you can still access any misfeeds in the back of the paper path by removing a panel from the back of the unit. Slide the guide as shown above to release the panel.

Then just pull out the panel. As seen above, you can

then access the back of the paper path.

With the back panel removed, you can also see inside the systems’ paper path. We found it easy to latch the panel back into place.

COST PER PAGE The Officejet 6600/6700 Premium ship with HP 932 (black) ink cartridge that yields 400 pages, and three HP 933 color cartridges that yield 300 pages.

High-Yield Ink Cartridges Ink Color Price Page Yield* Cost Per Page

932 XL Black $31.99 1,000 3.199¢ 933 XL Cyan $15.99 825 1.938¢

933 XL Magenta $15.99 825 1.938¢

933 XL Yellow $15.99 825 1.938¢

CYMK Color Cost Per Page 9.014¢*Average based on ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology and continuous

printing. Actual yield varies considerably based on content of printed pages and other factors.

STRENGTHS Competitive black and color cost per page using HP XL high-yield cartridges of 3.2¢ and 9.0¢ respectively. This is economic compared to not only color ink-jet All-in-Ones in this class, but also compared to even more expensive color laser-based All-in-Ones, some of which have color cost per page as high as from 14¢ to 20¢. Among a sampling of color laser and ink-jet All-in-Ones in this segment, black cost per page ranges from approximately 3¢ to 6¢, while color cost per page ranges from 10¢ to 22¢. Four individual ink cartridges means that users need only replace the ink cartridge that is depleted, avoiding waste. Free next business-day shipping of ink cartridges purchased at HP.com; you can also compare prices from other online retailers at HP’s Web store.

LIMITATIONS None.

SPACE/POWER CONSUMPTION/WARRANTY STRENGTHS Maximum power consumption at 46 watts is significantly lower than color

laser All-in-Ones in this class—for laser All-in-Ones, power consumption typically averages between 300 and 500 watts. Standard one-year warranty and one-year technical phone support. Customers may upgrade to the optional Total One Package, which provides two additional years of protection, and HP’s pick-up and return product program. EPA Energy Star compliant.

ECO-FRIENDLY FEATURES

Both All-in-Ones have minimal packaging, so there’s less packaging that will wind up in landfills. Above, ink cartridges that are shipped with the units have minimal, eco-friendly packaging—we had to remove only a plastic strip binding them together and a reference card indicating compatible ink cartridges—there’s nothing else to discard.

Hewlett-Packard Environmental Statement

Hewlett-Packard 2011 Environmental Goals Recycled plastic: Use a total of 100 million pounds, cumulatively from 2007, of recycled plastic in HP printing products. HP will improve the overall energy efficiency of HP ink and laser printing products by 40%, relative to 2005. For Imaging and Printing Group products, reduce the average weight of printer packaging per product by 35% (relative to 2005), use at least 35% recycled paper in cardboard packaging for printers and reduce the amount of plastic used in printer packaging by 50%, relative to 2005.

STRENGTHS Energy Star-qualification means the systems meet U.S. EPA power-conservation standards for low power consumption in power-save standby mode. Schedule when the systems should turn on and off—for instance, at 9 a.m. when work hours begin, and off at 6 p.m. when work hours end (press the Eco icon on the main touch screen, or schedule via the Embedded Web Server). Save energy by scheduling when the systems should revert into energy-saving sleep mode—after 5, 10, or 15 minutes (press the Eco icon on the main touch screen, or schedule via the Embedded Web Server). Eco-friendly, minimal packaging for ink cartridges—up to 70-percent less compared to laser toner and/or imaging-unit packaging. The Officejet 6700 Premium’s automatic duplex printing reduces paper consumption and helps conserve natural resources. Also make two-sided printing the default for printing copies and received faxes. In print mode, the Officejet 6600/6700 Premium consume just 43/46 (print/copy) watts of power, while color laser All-in-Ones in this class consume from approximately 300 to 500 watts. Customers will not only pay for less energy consumption, but will contribute less to carbon emissions. HP provides an ink-cartridge recycling program, Planet Partners, which is available in 42 countries and territories around the world. HP will not refill, resell, or send cartridges to landfills, but will instead recycle them. The company will also recycle used HP printers and other HP imaging equipment via its HP Consumer Buyback and Planet Partners Recycling Program. With this program, customers can avoid contributing to landfills, as HP will provide prepaid shipping for the return of the products for recycling.
