WHAT WE’RE LEARNING THIS MONTH
SUNDAY MORNINGS Our Sunday morning Middle School and High School classes are now both going through the Gospel Project series, published by LifeWay curriculum. The high school class is taught by Lee Adams and Jeanne Douglas. The middle school class is taught by Rich Douglas and Kim Adams. The Gospel Project for Students is a Bible study that invites students to dive deeply into God’s story of redemption through Jesus Christ through a three-year chronological journey through the storyline of Scripture. Join us for our classes at 10:00AM on Sunday mornings! Also, breakfast snacks are provided! This month, our Sunday morning class will be starting our Spring series, Volume 7: Jesus the Messiah. We’ll be starting our journey through the New Testament, beginning with the story of Jesus. Fourteen sessions of Bible study content will be broken down into three units: 1) Jesus Comes into the World, 2) Jesus Begins His Ministry, and 3) Jesus Among the People.
SUNDAY NIGHTS On Sunday nights, we’re digging deep into the Bible through apologetics and theology classes. Different groups for middle school and high school are being offered to help your teenager understand, explain, and defend their faith. Jason Allen will be teaching the high school students through this summer, while Pastor Rich teaches the middle school students. Sunday nights go from 6-7PM in the upper and lower youth rooms. We also serve snacks on Sunday nights! WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
In March, we’ll be continuing our series, “Choose Your Own Adventure” (CYOA on our calendar), a 4-week series on spiritual habits. Whether it’s a journey to Mordor, The Upside Down, outer space, or wherever Forky ran off to this time, we all love a great adventure story! Maybe that’s because, deep down, we know we’re designed to live an adventure story of our own — and with Jesus, we can. There is no greater adventure than the journey of knowing God more deeply, so in this 4-week series, we’ll talk about four ways we can do that: by spending time with God, spending time with others, sharing our stories, and using our gifts to serve others.
WHAT WE’RE DOING THIS MONTH
Acteens & Challengers Meeting – Wednesday, March 11 Our next Acteens and Challengers meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30pm. The Acteens group will be led by Sherry Darley, who has a passion to teach young girls about mission work and how we can better serve our
community. Challengers is a similar group, but for young men in middle through high school. Both groups seek to teach young people more about missions locally and globally. A meal will still be served in the upper youth room at 6:00PM.
Bowling Night - Sunday, March 29 Our youth ministry will be going to Anderson, SC to go bowling! Students are asked to bring $10 for bowling/shoe rental and their meal. Students are welcome to bring more money for extra food or arcade games if they wish. We’ll be leaving from Sardis at 5:45PM and returning to Sardis at 8:30PM. SuperWow Summer Camp – June 22-26 in Ft. Walton, FL This summer, we want to take your student to SuperWow in Ft. Walton, FL! SUPERWOW Camp is the best evangelistic summer camp for teens in the nation! The week boasts powerful worship services, group recreation, mission projects, and fellowship all designed with one core purpose – to allow every student to hear and respond to the Gospel! At the end of SUPERWOW, our group will go home united in a shared passion for JESUS and a shared commitment for making Him known! When you add together camp cost, food, and lodging over the course of 5 days, SuperWow can cost over $500 per student! But thanks to our church’s generous youth ministry budget, it will only cost $300 per student! Here’s how it’s broken down, families will pay $100 at the end of month for March, April, and May. But if your student helps us with our fundraising activities between now and summertime, the cost will be even lower, and the last payment will be cut. However, if we don’t raise the money, the cost will stay $300. Each payment is non-refundable. We want to make this amazing week of camp as affordable as possible, so please make sure your student participate in these fundraisers. More information is available in the SuperWow brochure sent along with this month’s newsletter.
On the outside, most young people seem happy-go-lucky, but inside each adolescent is a complex
network of potentially explosive pressures. Adolescents with a strong parental and social support system
are the least likely to experience the painful effects of the pressures they face. When parents become
aware of the typical sources of pressure that kids face, they are better able to provide their kids
encouragement and support. Here are five common pressures adolescents face:
1. The Pressure to be Perfect.
Teens repeatedly talk about their parents wanting them to be perfect, particularly in the areas of behavior
and school. No kid is perfect and when they fall short of their parents' expectations, they feel more
pressure.
2. The Pressure to Succeed.
The pressure to succeed elicits the attitude that life is a perpetual performance. To fail is to feel stupid.
When kids fail, they fear that others will reject them.
3. The Pressure to Conform.
Kids find it extremely uncomfortable to be different from their peers; so, they work hard to fit in and be
accepted by one of the subcultures on their school campus.
4. The Pressure from Body Changes.
Since consistent change is part of the developing adolescent body, teenagers are in a continual state of
stress over what's happening or what's not happening.
5. The Pressure from Emotions.
Adolescence is a time of emotional development. For many teens, the strength and frequency of their
emotions is much like having new emotions altogether. They are often not sure where the emotions have
come from, and they are equally unsure what to do with them.
Pressure is simply going to be part of the adolescent experience. Learning to process pressure and stress
is actually an important part of preparing kids to face the pressures and stresses of adulthood. Rather than
trying to eradicate all pressure, the wise course for parents is to help kids manage and moderate the
pressures they face so that they do not become overwhelmed as they journey toward adulthood.
