The Niles Teen Center is a Village of Niles program that provides a welcoming, structured and safe environment for local teens to spend time with friends, receive homework assistance, play games and develop social skills. The Niles Teen Center promotes community service opportunities, special activities, trips and educational programs. Check out our newsletter for more information on all that we have to offer local teenagers. Membership - There is a $20 annual fee for teens who live in Niles. There is a $35 annual fee for teens who do not live in Niles. All youth must register with a staff person before using the Teen Center. We now accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover cards for membership and program registration. Memberships renew annually! Guests are welcome to attend with a current member or at a parent’s request up to three times if space and staffing allow. Guests must check in with staff and conditions apply. After three visits, membership is required for attendance. Weekly Activities/Programs

Cooking with Maddie/Activities with Staff On alternating Tuesdays, Maddie will lead a free cooking activity throughout the fall. Also the other Tuesday from 4:00-5:30 pm join staff for a special activity which will include

games or arts & crafts. Tournament Wednesdays Every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tourna-ments for video games and table games like Air Hockey, Pop A Shot, NBA2K18 or Rocket League. Prizes may be awarded to winners.

Games with Staff– Thursdays On most Thursdays, Mark or other staff will organize and lead teens in a board game which will include Jenga, Chess,

Uno, Operation or Candyland. Sports Time Friday Most Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. through out the fall (weather permitting) staff will set up organized outdoor games at the Golf Mill Park. Games will include basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, or flag football. Meet at the Teen Center by 4:00 p.m. to participate. Open early for D63 early dismissal days/HS finals

Approximately once a month, D63 has an early dismissal for students for teacher in-service training. On these days, the Teen Center will be open at 10:45 am. The teen center will also open at 1:00 pm during

finals for Maine East High School students. Bring a Friend Fridays On a selected Friday each month, if a current member brings a friend as a guest, both teens will receive a free soda and bag of chips. If the guest, purchases a membership, the current member and new member will receive a $5 gift certificate for a local store (like Subway or Gloria Jeans Coffee).

Back to School Dance Grab your friends and dance away your back-to-school blues! Come to the Niles Family Fitness Center gym for music and dancing by Pro-Mix Audio and Lighting. There will be no entry after 8:00 p.m. and if

you leave the dance, you may not re-enter. Open to 6th through 8th grades ONLY. No hard-soled shoes or hats allowed. Date: Saturday, September 14 Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Cost: $10 per person (includes 4 tickets for drinks and snacks)- Cash Only Location: Niles Family Fitness Center- 987 Civic Center Drive, Niles

Teen Speaker Series All Teen Center members are invited to attend educational programs by speakers from the local community. Thursday, September 5 - 5:00-6:00 p.m. Internet Safety- Niles Police School Resource Officer, Kevin Regal will offer a presentation about online safety and digital citizenship. He will specifically be addressing how to deal with unwanted sexual requests, the consequences of sharing too much information online and cyberbullying. Thursday, October 17 - 5:00-6:00 p.m. Healthy Relationships: Boundaries and Harassment

Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook will provide a program that introduces boundaries in all rela-tionships, particularly friendships. We will learn how to identify boundaries,

communicate boundaries and the importance of respecting others’ boundaries through interactive scenarios. Thursday, November 14 - 5:00-6:00 p.m. – Snake Show Come out and learn about frequently misun-derstood Reptiles with the Chicago Herpeto-logical Society. Experience live exotic reptiles in a fun and safe environment, with hands on interaction with snakes and lizards.

Toys for Tots Program The Niles Teen Center, in cooperation with the Village of Niles, will participate in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves “Toys for Tots” program. We will be collecting toys to be distributed to less fortunate children in the Chicagoland area. Please do not bring any stuffed animals or home-made items. All toys must be in their original packaging and no gift wrapping. We will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Niles Food Pantry. Dates: Friday, November 1 to Thursday, December 12

These trips are open to Teen Center members only. You must pre-register for ALL trips and turn in the

Teen Trip Release Form! Many trips are offered in partnership with the Park Ridge Park District.

Fright Night- Haunted House Undertaking Get ready for a haunted house tour that will scare even the bravest of teens! Hop on the mini-bus as we chauffer you to 3 of the area’s best haunted attractions. Our trip will begin at Skokie’s Scream Scene, then off to St.

Thecla’s Hair Razor Haunted Scenes and finally to St. Pascal’s ‘The Cata-combs’ Haunted House - all in one night! We will stop for dinner at a local restaurant on our tour, so be sure to bring a little extra money for dinner or a snack. Price includes VIP Triple Fright Ticket admission at all 3 houses (a $50 value on its own) and a fast pass at each location - no waiting in those long lines! Transportation and supervision are included as well. Trip will depart from the Maine Park Leisure Center at 2701 W. Sibley in Park Ridge. Great America Fright Fest - Columbus Day (No School) Travel to Six Flags Great America, which this fall will feature monster roller coasters and scary crea-tures! Make sure to bring extra money for food and souvenirs. This trip may depart from a location other than the Niles Teen Center. Trip will depart from the Maine Park Leisure Center at 2701 W.

Niles-Maine District Library - Teen Programs Anime Club-Wednesday, September 4, 18, October 2, 16, November 6, 20, 6:00-8:00 p.m.-Grades 7-12 Join us in the Teen Underground the first and third Wednesday of the month to watch anime. Hang out afterwards to discuss the viewing and make suggestions for future meetings! Ramen will be provided.

Dungeons & Dragons Free Play-Saturday, Sept. 28, 1:30-4:30 p.m., Oct. 26, 1:30-4:30 p.m., Nov. 23, 1:00-4:00 p.m.-Grades 7-12 Dive into the story-building world of Dungeons & Dragons in this monthly gaming meet-up. Bring a character you've already created, or play one provided by our local Dungeon Master. Horror Trivia Night-Friday, October 11, 4:00-6:00 p.m.-Grades 7-12- Do you know who wrote IT? How many Friday the 13th movies are there? Can you name all the Stranger Things kids? Join us in the Teen Underground for an extra spooky trivia night and see if you have what it takes to be crowned Master of Horror. Prizes awarded to winners.

Spooky Teen Storytime-Friday, October 25, 4:00-6:00 p.m.-Grades 7-12 Miss Rachel and Donna will be turning down the lights and turning up the frights for this evening storytime. Gather round the Teen Underground to hear some creepy tales of haunted houses, full moons, and blood-sucking vampires. Campfire not included, but s’mores will be served. Teen Game Night-Friday, November 8, 4:00-6:00 p.m.-Grades 7-12 Celebrate International Gaming Week by geeking out with board games and friends. Ice Skating at Iceland Ice Rink (No School- D63/D207) Join the Teen Center staff as we enjoy a day of ice skating at the Niles Park District’s Iceland Ice Rink during their Open Skate hours. We will walk from Golf Mill to Iceland and skate from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The Teen Center will be open to skating participants only from 12:00 to 2:45 p.m. if they choose not to go home after ice skating.

Homework Assistance: Having trouble with your Math homework? Need some ideas for a Social Studies, Science or Literature project? Struggling with scholarship or university applications? The knowledgeable Teen Center staff is available to offer academic assistance for all middle school and high school students. We will also offer volunteer tutors (days and times are to be determined.)

Register your Bicycle: Protect your bike from thieves by registering it with the Niles Police Department! Every year the Niles Police Department accumulates a number of lost or stolen bikes and is forced to sell them at an auction because their owners cannot be identified. When you register your bike, your bicycle’s information is entered into a national database allowing the Police Department to contact you if it is ever lost or stolen. So don’t be left walking while someone else rides away on your bike. Register your bike through the Niles Teen Center or Niles Police Department.

Community Service Hours: Attention High School & College Students: If you need community service hours for a club, organization or leader-ship position, the Teen Center can provide the opportunity to earn those credits through role modeling, tutoring or assisting with special events. Talk to Mark to see what options we can offer.

Emergency or Off-Site Events: If there is an emergency, an off-site event or you need immediate attention, please call the Teen Center main line 847-588-6900 and select option (1). This will connect you directly to the Director or

on-call staff member. Please be considerate of staff’s personal time and only use this option if absolutely necessary. Thank you for your cooperation!

In-House Movie Nights Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Bring a pillow or blanket and make yourself at home. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
