Sunday’s Sermon In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.

For Kids: Christ’s Return Is Anticipated—2 Thessalonians 1-3

Big Picture Question for Kids: When will Jesus come back?

Big Picture Answer for Kids: Only God knows when Jesus will return.

Christ Connection: No one knows when Jesus will return, except for God. But Christians should be ready for Him. When Jesus comes back, people who do not believe in Him will be punished for their sin. But everyone who trusts in Jesus will be rescued!

Key Passage: Revelation 22:12-13

For Teenagers: Victory Over Defeat Lesson Text: Revelation 12:1-12

Sunday, August 16 |“The Blessing Greater than Marriage”—Isaiah 56:3-5 Truth: Singleness does not keep you from contentment. Jesus told the woman at the well who had been seeking satisfaction through earthly relationships that the only true source of contentment was in Him. Never look to another person to give you what only Jesus can give you. The key to contentment is not marriage but Jesus. Response: Are you pursing Jesus as your ultimate source of contentment in life or are you seeking contentment elsewhere? Have you learned like Paul to be content in “whatever situation” (Phil. 4:11)? Make a list of relationships, circumstances, or possessions in which you are seeking satisfaction. Pray through this list; ask God to help your soul to thirst less for these things and more for Jesus. Truth: Singleness does not keep you from purpose. God’s ultimate purpose is not centered on marriage and family but on filling the earth with His glory. Marriage and family are simply one means to this ultimate end. God’s greatest ambition is the kingdom. Therefore, not being married does not keep you from being a part of the purposes of God. Response: Is the kingdom your highest priority? The temptation for a single adult is to make the pursuit of earthly relationships a higher priority in their life than the kingdom. The temptation for a married adult is to allow the family they do have to become a higher priority than the kingdom. What is your greatest ambition and does it line up with God’s greatest ambition? What changes do you need to make in the way you spend your time and money in order to make the kingdom yours and your family’s highest priority? Truth: Singleness does not keep you from family. Jesus not only gives us a new Father but He gives us a bunch of new brothers and sisters. The Church is the family of God and it transcends earthly relationships. While our earthly family is temporary, the family of God will last forever. If you have Jesus, you always have a family. Response: How are you treating your brothers and sisters in Christ? Are they a priority in your life? Are you intentional in opening your lives and homes up to them? Are you treating the single adults in our church as family? Take time this week to make plans to have a single adult in our church into your home sometime within the next month. Make cultivating relationships with our church family a priority in your life.
