What sorts of technicalities are faced by users while
linking DWF markups in Revit?
When it comes to developing construction documents, AEC professionals have to maintain an
effective workflow so that correct information is contained into them. Now, what is that effective
workflow that is followed by construction professionals? Well, while construction documents are
created, professionals are required to take a print out of the sheet and get it examined and
marked-up by architects and engineers, after which necessary changes are made to documents
depending upon the review.
Steps for tackling the technicalities of linking DWF markups
Revit has effective mechanism for dealing with the issues of linking DWF markups in
Revit.
In Revit, sheet views can be exported as DWF files by users.
Now with the assistance of Autodesk Design Review, AEC professionals become capable
of electronically marking-up DWF files.
For viewing the required changes, Revit users can link the markups into Revit.
For accomplishing this, users are required to export a sheet view into DWF by going to
Export option in Revit and then selecting (DWF/DWFx) option from there.
For marking up DWF file users are suggested to utilize DWF-compatible program.
When Revit users’ markup DWF files it means that they are marking up on plotted views.
Now for linking the markups users are required to click Insert tab then go to Link panel
and finally select DWF Markup option from there.
Once ‘DWF Markup’ option is selected by users Import/Link DWF File dialog reflects in
front of the screen.
After which users are required to navigate to the folder wherein DWF markup file is
saved by the users and select it from there.
Once the DWF file is selected users should click Open.
By clicking open, ‘The Link Markup Page’ that is associated to ‘Revit Sheets dialog’
opens up in front of users.
All the sheet view names which are marked-up in DWF file are displayed by Revit within
DWF View column.
On the other hand the corresponding sheet view is displayed in Revit View column.
If in case the sheet name in both DWF file and Revit file is same, it means the sheet name
is inherently updated in Revit View column.
But if in case sheet name is different in both DWF file and Revit file, then Revit displays
a message saying ‘Not linked.’
In this case users are required to select a Revit sheet view and then click open.
Once you open the sheet, you will find that markups are pinned up which ultimately
indicates that changes cannot be made to them.
But in case markups are created by users in Design Review then changes can be effectively
made to them by users. Users can select the markup objects and can update them into DWF
file. After which the file should be saved by users.
