What is weather?Weather
consists of the conditions of the atmosphere at a particular time and place.
Climate
Climate is the general weather of an area over a long period of time, and includes seasonal changes in weather.
Factors Affecting Weather
1. Air Pressure2. Heat Energy3. Wind4. Moisture
Air Pressure
Air Pressure is a measure of the weight of air pressing down on a given area of the Earth’s surface.• Changes in air pressure tell
you that changes in the weather are on the way.
• Low pressure means cloudy, rainy weather, and when air pressure is high, it means sunny, fair weather.
Wind
• Differences in air pressure cause wind, or moving air.
• Air moves from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure.
• The greater the difference of air pressure the faster the wind blows.
• An anemometer measures the speed of wind.
Heat Energy
Heat is the transfer of thermal energy from a hot object to a cooler one.
3 Ways:1. Radiation2. Convection3. Conduction
Radiation
• Radiation is the direct transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves.
• You cannot see infrared radiation, but you can feel it as heat!
Conduction
• Conduction is the direct transfer of heat from one substance to another.
Convection
• Transfer of heat energy in a fluid, in which warmer fluid rises and cooler fluid sinks.
Moisture
• Precipitation happens when water vapor condenses, and the drops of water in the cloud grow larger. Eventually, the heavy drops fall back to Earth as rain, snow, sleet or hail.
• Condensation:• Transpiration:• Evaporation:
