In response to the alarming trends of destruction in the region, President Yudhoyono of Indonesia proposed to other CT leaders a new multilateral partnership to safeguard the regions marine and coastal biological resources: the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF). This initial proposal set in motion a series of events that has advanced this effort quickly and decisively

Goal 1. Priority Seascapes designated and effectively managedTarget 2. Marine and coastal resources within all Priority Seascapes are being sustainably managed. Action 1. Adopt a general model for sustainable management of seascapes.

Goal 2.Ecosystem Approach for Fisheries Management (EAFM) Target 1. Strong legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks in place for achieving an ecosystem approach to fisheries managementAction 1. Collaborate to develop a common regional framework for legislation and policy that would support EAFM; drawing on this, strengthen regional and national legislation, policies and regulations.Action 2. Improve enforcement of IUU fishing through greater collaboration.

Priority Actions Recommended for 2010 2011Goal 3. MPA established and effectively managed Target 1. Region-wide Coral Triangle MPA System (CTMPAS) in place and fully functional.Action 1. Region-wide Early Action Plan for Climate Change Adaptation for the near-shore marine and coastal environment and small island ecosystems developed and implementedAction 1. Identify the most important and immediate adaptation measures that should be taken across all Coral Triangle countries, based primarily on analyses using existing models.
