THE COLOSOUL GROUPis a creative non-for-profit incubator based in Perth, Western Australia. We are specialized in creative writing, photography, graphic design, music journalism, multimedia production, as well as event management and marketing. Our team provides an energetic base for young people to be actively involved through its mentorship program. We achieve this by working closely with young people on a one to one level ensuring they feel part of a dynamic and productive organization, which in return they are helping to build. The focus lies on creating an effective working partnership with each young person, allowing as much inner ambition and creative flow as possible to generate from their creative perspective.

HOW WE SUPPORT EMERGING TALENT The young people put together projects from start to finish, working alongside industry professionals who act as mentors in this program. In addition they have the opportunity to work alongside their peers who are being trained or who are graduates in their field of media and the arts.

WHAT WE DO The Colosoul Group has created a number of publications with the intention of giving as many opportunities in specified fields, such as; fashion, music, social and environmental issues, photography, events and multimedia. This gives young people the opportunity to be a part of an original, artistic and innovative organisation which supports and gives guidance to the young person, helping them on a path to their chosen career field.

WHY MENTORSHIP? Getting a start into one’s career, especially in the media and the arts, is often experienced as problematic for young people. Especially University students find it difficult to obtain a position as they often have not had enough exposure within the media and arts industry when graduating, although they are learnt in theory. Being a part of the mentorship program offers the opportunity to put the learnt theory into practice and to improve one’s portfolio. The mentorship program also helps to build confidence and supports the young talents on their journey to success.

TESTIMONIALS

“I have worked with Colosoul for over eight months now and within this time I have gained invaluable experience and learnt more than I could have imagined. When I first started out I helped coordinate an event and gain sponsorship, this helped both my confidence grow and communication skills expand. At the moment I have been given the opportunity to develop and edit a new magazine called Teensoul, I have been able to grow as a professional and really learn the ins and outs of how a magazine works.”

Jasmin Rule - Age 22

“The Colosoul Group’s mentorship program offers a truly golden opportunity for young people interested in becoming involved in the daunting business of publication and its associated media arts. Through the duration of the program, the support offered to mentees assists them to develop new skills and promotes an active and positive environment in which to learn. As a part of the program, I have been granted a fantastic opportunity to work in a field otherwise unwelcoming to inexperienced students, and I feel confident that the program will open many doors for my future.”

Nick FitzPatrick - Age 18

“I’m Linda and have been involved with Colosoul for about two years. I’ve seen how Colosoul has grown - slowly but surely, from a couple of writers, a photographer, graphic designer to now a jam-packed office. I appreciate the idea which supports young people - being the stepping stone which helps them get into the industry and giving them an opportunity to gain exposure and experience.”

Linda Do - Age 27

“Colosoul has been a fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience in the magazine industry. It gives young people the opportunity to express themselves creatively and work on projects close to their heart. This makes the magazine a unique product, reflecting the experiences of West Australian youth.”
