What is it?
A British Council VTTN teacher training pack of filmed lessons and training materials for upper-secondary school English teacher training.
VCD lessons + training materials
The pack contains:5 VCDs of lessons;• The Reading Lesson
• The Speaking Lesson
• The Listening Lesson
• The Writing Lesson
• The Language Focus Lesson
1 CD with the training material in PDF format for each of the 5 1-day workshops
How to use?Workshops:
•teachers from 3 or more schools
•12 – 50 teachers participating
•VTTN way of working
Each ‘lesson’ useable in 3 ways:
1. Watch the lesson and discuss and compare with expert feedback [90 minutes].
2. A mini workshop [3-4 hours]
1. Warmer2. Watch activity3. Special topic and/or demonstration of
skill area activities.3. Full workshop [approximately 6 hours]
Full workshop format:
1. Warmer [20-30 mins]2. Watch VCD and discussion/reflection [90
mins]3. Focus on a special topic related to the
lesson [60 mins]4. Demonstration(s) of a skill area activity [60
mins]5. Peer teaching [120 mins]

•Language Focus Lesson (2nd Conditionals)
•1st, 2nd, and 3rd Conditionals + reported speech
•(Students have meet 2nd Conditionals in grade 9 and 10)

•What you liked about the section
•What you would do differently and why
•Any other comments
Special Topic:Establish guidelines for a communicative language focus lesson
Other topics are:
•Integrating pronunciation
•Communicative teaching vs. teaching focused on rules and descriptions about language
•Introducing new vocabulary
•Teacher roles
Demonstrations:3 Things to do in the pronunciation stage
Idea 1:
•a one syllable word for each sound /kl/, /kr/, /gl/,
/gr/, /kw/
•a two-syllable word for each sound /kl/, /kr/, /gl/
/gr/, /kw/
•a noun for each of the sounds /kl/, /kr/, /gl/
/gr/, /kw/
Demonstrations:3 Things to do in the pronunciation stage
Idea 3:
Elicit or provide a movement/action for each of the consonant clusters.
/kl/ = stand up /kr/ = smile
/gl/ = touch your nose /gr/ = pretend to eat
/kw/ = put both arms in the air.
