ETWINNING PROJECT
“ WHAT IS ENERGY,
REALLY?
UNDERSTANDING
ENERGY WITH
REAL LIFE
EXPERIENCES”
Catherine Wimmer (one class)
Lycée A. Schweitzer, Mulhouse
Roberta Ghetti (one class)
Peter Ulf Johan Helgesson (one class)
Liceo G. Ricci-curbastro, Lugo, Italy
THE PARTNERSHIP FRANCE-ITALY
All of us were first time eTwinners
We came in contact via the Partner Forums of
the eTwinning Live platform, with the help of a
French eTwinning Ambassador (Mrs. Natacha
Hansen)

PARTNER FORUMS ON ETWINNING LIVE
THE PARTNERSHIP FRANCE-ITALY
All of us were first time eTwinners
We came in contact via the Partner Forums of the
eTwinning Live platform, with the help of a French
eTwinning Ambassador (Mrs. Natacha Hansen)
Initially, teachers kept in contact via Skype and e-mail
to discuss the aims of the project and develop a common
plan of activities and project time schedule
MULHOUSE LUGO
COMMON PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Stimulate to explore the world from a scientific
point of view
Understand the importance of science and
technology in our lives
Increase social competences
Increase motivation and satisfaction in learning
Increase cooperative learning
Improve communication in a foreign language
PROJECT MAIN PHASES
The students work in groups of 4-5 pupils
Each group had to:
Present each other (the school and town) to the
eTwinning partners
Prepare a physics quiz for the other school
Solve the quiz prepared by the other groups
Explain aspects of energy using experiences
from everyday life (“experiments”)
Vote the best experiment
PEDAGOGICAL INNOVATION & CREATIVITY
Presentations: choose materials
and how to present to students
from another country
Quizzes: reflect what is general
and what is more specific and
the appropriate level of difficulty
Experiments: realize that
physics is all around us
(and not just in text books),
discuss ideas, hypothesis
and conclusions with other
group members
Improve linguistic and
citizenship competences
Students are not passive
subjects but become active
in their own learning
Students become
empowered and active
protagonists of their own
learning
Students learn outside the traditional school schemes
PRESENTATIONS OF TOWN AND SCHOOL
PRESENTATIONS OF TOWN AND SCHOOL
PRESENTATIONS OF TOWN AND SCHOOL
EXAMPLE OF QUESTION & FEEDBACK
The two blocks
arrive at the same
time . It was Galileo
who first found it out
by dropping objects
from the leaning
tower of Pisa …

The skater
GROUP 3
Elastic energy
GROUP 4
Video with slinky
GROUP 2
The Death Loop
INTEGRATION IN CURRICULUM OF STUDIES
Energy: is a basic concept in physics
Interdisciplinary: with other subjects (sciences,
English)
Being requested to vote the best experiment:
study the materials of the other groups (instead
of a text book) come in contact with more real-
life situations
Utilize the TwinSpace, share materials with the
partners: more motivation, collaborative
attitude, closeness with the foreign country and
foreign partners
COMMUNICATION & EXCHANGE BETWEEN
PARTNER SCHOOLS
Utilized all TwinSpace tools:
Diary: for important communications and events
Chat: for students to get to know each other and exchange opinions
Forum: to select and vote the best experiments
Immages,Pages: to make clear every step of the project
Aim: to share scientific experiences between the two countries, discuss the most convincing experiments, vote the best experiment
Students very enthusiastic and showed competence and innovative thinking
EXAMPLE POSTS FROM THE LIVE CHAT
USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN DIDACTIVE
ACTIVITIES
We utilized:
All the TwinSpace tools
Other programs to create videos and presentations
Google Forms (for the questionnaires)
Teachers and students engaged with technology
not for the sake of it, but to achieve the
learning goals
RESULTS, IMPACT, DOCUMENTATION
The concept of energy has become less abstract and
more bound to common experiences
Other competences have been developed:
learning how to learn
increase initiative and engagement
group learning, social integration
Exchange with partner school:
the fact that we are here today!
possibility of future projects
connect different schools in a European network
Reach non-eTwinning teachers by dissemination
the results were presented on the school-website
and on the public TwinSpace
VERY MANY THANKS TO…
All the students and their great engagement!
