ARTober, in its inaugural year, was planned by the City of Bangor’s Commission for Cultural Development, with generous help from Beal College and the Downtown Bangor Partnership. OCTOBER 20: Exhibiting artist Philip Frey will discuss his process, methods, and inspiration for his work “Parallels,” on view at the University of Maine Museum of Art. This informal noon time talk will last for roughly one half hour and will conclude with a brief question and answer session with the artist. Art@Noon talks are FREE and open to the public.

OCTOBER 21: Murder Mystery Dinner Party, 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at the Bangor Public Library. This is a ticketed fundraiser for the BPL; visit bangorpubliclibrary.org for more information.

OCTOBER 20-NOVEMBER 6: Penobscot Theatre Company presents “Murder For Two,” a musical murder mystery; performances are Wednesdays through Sundays at the Bangor Opera House. Tickets are available via penobscottheatre.org, at the box office, or by calling 942-3333.

OCTOBER 21: Bangor Contradance, featuring Velocipede and caller John McIntire, 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Park Street. Beginner’s walkthrough at 7:30 p.m. Adults $8, children $4.

OCTOBER 28: I Love The 90s Tour, featuring retro pop and hip hop acts from the 1990s, including Salt N Pepa with DJ Spinderella, Vanilla Ice, All-4-One, Color Me Badd, Tone Loc, Rob Base and Young MC. 7:30 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center. Tickets via Ticketmaster.

OCTOBER 29: Downtown Bangor Partnership Halloween festivities; includes trick or treating at downtown businesses and costume parade in the afternoon, and adult activities at night.

OCTOBER 29: Bangor Symphony Orchestra Halloween string quartet performance, geared towards families, 4 p.m. at the Bangor Public Library.

OCTOBER 29: Heavy Halloween at the Central Gallery, featuring local rock and hardcore bands including Give Way, Scavenger, Seize the Vatican and The Waking Life. 7:30 p.m., $5, all ages.

In 2015 the City of Bangor designated the month of October as the “Month of the Arts,” officially celebrating the diverse and exciting creative culture in the Queen City. To that end, the many organizations, businesses and individuals that are part of Bangor’s creative scene have worked hard to offer a compelling array of events on nearly every day of the month -- more than 60 in total, from art shows and movie screenings to dance and music performances and workshops. ARTober, in its inaugural year, was planned by the City of Bangor’s Commission for Cultural Development, with generous help from Beal College and the Downtown Bangor Partnership.
