What is a Spreadsheet?

A grid that organizes data into columns and rows

It can be used to store, sort & manipulate information…

… and to perform calculations

Common spreadsheet programs include:-

•Microsoft: Excel

•Microsoft: Works

•Lotus: 1-2-3

•Open office: Calc

Spreadsheets have numbered rows and lettered columns.

The intersection of a row and a column is called a cell,

e.g. cell B2 above

Cells can contain formulae relating to values in other cells

There are also “functions” such as SUM and AVERAGE

Spreadsheets can be used for many different things.

Category: “food” = food & drink

Account: b = bank, cc = credit card
