WHAT IS A DUAL DEGREE?
• Registered in a PhD at each university• Supervisor at each university• Spend time at each university (1 x year min)• Submit a thesis to each university –
– 1 to UTS and 1 to SYSU• Awarded with 2 PhDs

• DUAL = 2 x thesis
• Same research project, co-supervised• 2 different theses• 1 x in Chinese (SYSU), 1 x in English (UTS)• 2 examination processes

www.uts.edu.au/research• Look at faculty websites• Use the ‘Find a supervisor’ website• Ask for help from the Grad School
Step 2:
Find a UTS supervisor
CONTACT YOUR SUPERVISOR - UTS
• Contact the supervisor by email• Copy to internationalresearch
@uts.edu.au• Attach:
- draft research outline/proposal
- academic transcripts
- CV (outlining research experience, publications, prizes)

DEVELOP A RESEARCH PROPOSAL
• Together with your supervisor• 3-4 page outline of your research
project:- Research problem and background
- Research aims
- Literature review
- Methodology & research design
- Research plan and timing
Step 3:
Develop a research proposal
APPLICATION FORM & DOCUMENTS
• Application form online• Submit all documents,
including:– Agreement from SYSU supervisor– Academic records– English language test documents– Research proposal – CV/Resume
Steps 4 and 5:
Complete form and attach documents

6.0 overall writing: 6.0
Range: 60-78 writing 21
Science, Design, Architecture, Building
6.5 overall writing: 6.0
Range: 79-93 writing 21

7.0 overall writing: 7.0
Range:94-101 writing 23
Minimum English
Language requirements
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FUNDING
• China Scholarship Council:– Living allowance– Return air fare– Health insurance
• UTS scholarship:– Tuition fees – Top up living allowance $5,000 AUD
SUBMIT APPLICATION FORM
To start in Semester 2, 2015:
CSC applicants:
16 January 2015
All other applicants:
30 March 2015

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
1. Your application will be assessed by the University
2. If accepted, you will receive a UTS offer letter for the program
3. Use the UTS offer letter to CSC to apply for the scholarship
4. Apply for your student visa
5. Start in July/August 2015
